A factor sadly overlooked with rebuilds .....stability required, yet Nicks gets criticised for not having a rotational policy with Kids

Thank God none of you get to build anything

Gees you post some nonsense, so playing duds like Murphy were important until he’s not important and delisted….

What ....versus being a sheep, and not prepared to stand-alone on your own POV's ....for fear of not being part of the group think

I get it ....so many have been personally attacked on this board for expressing an unpopular POV ....much easier to fall in line & be compliant
Standing alone with your POV doesn’t make it right, you seem to take pride in having stupid opinions only because you’re alone in believing them

I, for one, am super grateful we were so stable with Murph, McHenry, Jones & ROB. Made all the difference.

It’s definitely something that stands out. I can’t say I know the answer, but somehow some clubs seem to do it quickly, but we definitely don’t.

The point is, you can't have a side full of kids ....no matter what you think of those players

I agree you cant have a team full of kids. That has never been our criticism. In fact most people in here never subscribe to the 'shiny new toy' attitude. Where our criticism lies is providing the opportunities. Picking a senior player from the 2s whose played there most of the year over a young player who is desperate for games is the fault.

Watching the game last night between Fremantle and Hawthorn and watching teams like Sydney play - it feels like we are playing an entirely different sport.

Where they have run and dash and dare and excitement, we have slow and boring and high kicks and contests. I couldn't help but think what guys like Rachele and Tex and Filthy would do if they had Hawthorn's gameplan bringing the ball in to them so quickly. We really aren't maximising our own players.

but we are also far from the worst at it, Think Carlton, North and Essendon, and they have the AFL giving them every possible leg up

Saying we're better than those clubs is not exactly a flex.

Agree, the crap we are dishing up compared to last night - wowsers. But then apparently:

Adelaide have mostly played attacking footy this year, apart from small sections of games.

Is Peter D the "these riots are mostly peaceful" or the "nothing to see here folks" guy??

Surely he has it arse about, “we are playing boring crap football apart from small sections of games”

Even our "fast" play is essentially "bomb it to the tall guy on the boundary wing then straight to the next tall guy inside F50". Sure it looks ok at times because we have good talent in place to do it but it is incredibly easy for sides to defend most of the time. This is also why every week we seem to have one opposition tall defender going God mode each week by taking easy intercept marks.

I realise you want to win games and give experience to kids, but one is very short term and the other is the future. I’m only saying it as a criticism, but I’m not suggesting it’s sack worthy!

I was just taking the piss after adelaidecrows complete lie about Adelaide playing, 'slow tempo footy' after hitting the 20 point lead against the Power.

Although...

watching Hawthorn mids lace out their forwards on the lead was incredibly annoying. Why we dont do it...has to be instruction.

It's a catch-22 for any coach

If you're winning then you should be able to carry a raw high draft pick

If you're losing/rebuilding then you should be looking at who is exiting the team and replace them with high draft pick

But yes not picking kids is not sackable

I dont think its as hard as some make it to be. Good coaches do it seamlessly. We arent talking keeping good players out the side so young Johnny can have a crack at it. A best 23 is a best 23. However when injuries occur, im not just talking 1 or 2 lets say there are 3 to 4 players injured in our best 23 and our depth is starting to be stretched, this is when if that 27yo hasnt been selected to replace any of the injured already but you have a 20yo sitting their crying out for games....select the 20yo.

once you get down past that 27th man on the list you can not state this 27yo is going to give us more of an opportunity to win than someone carving it up in the Sanfl but lacks the AFL experience.

Obviously positional nuances apply.

I get the impression that every player is treated the same regardless of their draft pick.

It doesn’t matter whether they are pick 4 like Draper or a Cat B pick like Indi Cotton. No one is gifted games or looked favourably because they are a high draft pick.

It may not be what people want, but I think it created an environment where everyone is challenged to play and train at their best.

* it also does help when Mathew Nicks has his favourites who are given a gold card with selection

I agree, its only the fans who have the shiny new toy feel. But, when young players are smashing it in the Sanfl playing Sanfl starts becoming redundant to their development. Some players just need AFL games almost instantly. Robbing them of that for a 27yo list clogger who gets 4 disposals on a good day because of non statistical shape running is the height of neglect.

Brisbane played 8 players 22 or under in last years Grand Final win, 3 of those were under 20

Ever stopped to wonder why Nicks and Co are so desperate for trades, its quick fixes, he doesnt have to play kids and it wall papers over cracks.
