Autopsy Round 9, 2026: Hawks get docked

The dam wall was always going to burst, in the end their midfield just overpowered us.
Losing Barass early and Gunners on one leg for some time made it really tough.
The sideways movement in the last to deny them the ball didn’t work. It just robbed us of quick ball movement.
Few passengers but Moorey often goes missing in big games.

Barass loss hurt in the last qtr.

2 goals in whole second half reason we lost...our ball movement dried up from mid way in 3rd qtr.

They were at full strength ...we will improve with a few very good players back.

Onwards and upwards...showed great play for 3 qtrs, just ran out of petrol tickets 🎟 in the last qtr.

We are into this season up to our ears... keep the faith.

Proud of the boys but our rucks got absolutely monstered.

We look tired in the 2nd half, the scissor boys had minimal impact and Newc playing on one leg. We lost run through the middle when Weddle went back to cover Barrass. Ramma proved a mistake at selection, we needed another runner.

At least we have a longer break ahead of the next game, the boys need it. I'm backing they will regroup and torch the Dees.

Fair question, in pretty much every game this year the opposition has had a run of goals on us .

Whether it was coaching driven or player driven it was terrible, you can not hold on to a 3 goal lead for a quarter playing like that.

With 4 minutes left we were safe until Karl dogged it 3 times in 2 minutes. He’ll get a cook for it and hopefully be better for it.

We had the game dusted. Were let down badly by some poor moments from some individuals at the end.

McKenzie continuing to show he’s arrived. A few errors, especially when he tried to do too much at the end there and got caught. Flip side is I like that he’s got the attitude to take the game on. He’s believing.

Let's be honest, Freo are horrendously overrated. The only player who won it for them was Jackson. The rest are downhill skiers.

Boys tried hard - we’re trying a-few things at selection but 3 Rucks isn’t the answer.

Experiment over - get run in the side - the boys were gassed half way through the 3rd.

Don’t think I’ve ever enjoyed a Freo game. Even the 2013 GF was just relief rather than enjoyment.

We smashed em by 70 points in 2014 that was pretty good.

We could have been comfortably beaten had they kicked straight let's be honest here. We got a humbling that last quarter and it was only there wasteful kicking that kept us in front. Silver lining is we will look a bit different next time we play them hopefully and another of these capitulations doesn't happen against them because it's happened 2 games in a row in exactly the same way.

Weddle got his chance behind the ball and still wasn't up to it.

Problem is that Meek wasn’t great tonight but Reeves had the around the ground presence of an inanimate Carbon Rod!

I still feel our best ruck combo is Meek / Chol.

The last couple of weeks have shown how important The Chols Royce is to our structure TBH.

they do have a core of really good players and some outstanding young talent across all lines and a home deck advantage like few others. I still say we get them on a level playing field in Melbourne. I always want to win but not the worst result (personally I am still more cut up about the draw last week)

20/20 hindsight maybe tonight was the night to roll the dice on a bolder selection and played Nairn or Hill for an unexpected spark (could still do that next week) - I think we looked a bit tired off the back of our shit draw. I don't know how grumbleguts is going but I feel a little meh

1 goal in half a game is really poor. Had to bury the match early in the third when we had the play. Not sure what the thinking is behind continuously bombing it down the ground and nobody going up for the contest. Very frustrating and disappointing loss.

While it was great to see Wiz and Gunston bagging goals in the back of my mind I was concerned that barely anyone else touched the scoreboard.

Once they started getting in top of Gunston I just didn't know where else we are going to score from in the second half. Turned out it was just Gunston which is just an indictment on our lack of scoring options.
