Made a lot of critical decisions these last few seasons under Austin’s watch.

It’d be odd if he left purely on his own accord, cause it’d feel like the sign of someone that doesn’t have belief in his own convictions. Not terribly encouraging if he plans on looking for another recruiting job.

I think Austin would have made a solid List Manager paired with a forward-thinking and strategically minded senior coach.

I think if he's given some parameters he is capable of identifying and obtaining players that meet those parameters.

I think the problem was that he'd been paired with a stubborn and narrow-minded coach who wasn't able to identify the necessary traits (and combinations thereof) needed for the way the game is trending, and he lacked the clout or confidence to overrule the coach on some of those selection/contract calls.

Put Austin with a Sam Mitchell who would give him better direction and he'd be a solid if unspectacular part of a successful team. But without knowing who our coach will be, with some likelihood that said new coach is a first time senior, and with our new focus on AI analytics, I think we're going to want someone who can direct list strategy, not just execute someone else's vision.
Of course we don't know what happens behind the scenes, but it almost seemed like the perfect storm.

Austin was left with a mess that he's partially cleaned up, but there's been some horrid list management decisions and draft selections over the past few years. The issue is that we don't know how much is attributed to Voss wanting specific types, Agresta identifying the wrong player, Austin's inability to manage the overall list, or a combination of all.

I thought that with Agresta and Voss gone, he'd now have some clear air to make list decisions with a new coach, but sadly that's not the case.

Not pushed
Expecting Nick Austin to be vindicated as our youngsters get going. Awfully hard to listen to the media denigrate the list and then listen to the presser with our brains trust wanting to limit piling on Voss and openly down playing the state of the list.

Davies will oversee the Club’s list management for the foreseeable future while he leads the restructure of the list management and recruiting team.

Yes, I am going to say it. Thank goodness Nick Austin is gone before he hands out even more ghastly contracts. He was basically running a charity by giving Cottrell 3 years, Reidy 4 years, Cerra 5 years with all of his hamstring injuries and even Walsh 8 years with all of his back injuries.

Which would have been signed off by the CEO - what does that tell you??

That the CEO didn’t watch us closely enough as he was at a different football club. It’s easy to sign off on long term contracts when he didn’t have any interest in making sure the players were worth it before getting to Carlton.
