Seems like we might be better coached than we were 6 weeks ago. I wonder what's changed.

Connection, players not playing to show their worth and looking to help others look good etc. I think coaching is probably staying on message but players are starting to click together a lot more.

The forwards are playing to give each other opportunity now. Probably the biggest difference. Geelong have had 15+ years of playing the self sacrifice game and are still likely to play finals again.

Hammer's role has been pretty effective the last few weeks doing exactly that hey. Been clever coaching. Wonder if he plays on Mac Andrew tonight and how they negate him.

I said it in an autopsy thread but lot of reasons IMO:

  • We started the year playing four key defenders. Unheard of.
  • Boxshall on a wing shanking kicks. Your outside players need to be able to kick and combined with four key backs (plus Windhager) we couldnt move the ball.
  • Nas spending too much time forward.
  • Flanders isn’t the player we thought he’d be. Definitely not the midfielder that’s for sure.

I think we put all of our eggs into being a forward half team and forgot about everything else. The balance is better now.

Exactly. We have chosen to step backwards to go forwards and Lyon has managed to keep us in a holding pattern at the same time. The new additions made it look like we might have a bit of a quicker surge back up the ladder but so far it's not been a quick fix.

The list is still better and we have a coherent plan and pro staff now. It should give some kind of pay off in the not too distant future. Hopefully this year but if not I think we will be better for the sacrifice still.
I don't think Lyon would have started the season with any plan to go backwards to go forward, as he is not that kind of coach. He would have been expecting to beat Collingwood and Melbourne and probably Adelaide, but he has presided over a series of games with dud quarters where we have lost the match when we have been in with a chance- he is to answer for that rather than just shrug his shoulders.

We looked to have a solid base to go forward after last season, but we are treading water yet again and I see us finishing around 10-12 on the ladder when we should really be three games better off by now.

we should get monty back at the club, development coach or something low key, he's got more braincells than most lists put together

Would you think if we thought Enright was our next coach we’d lock down a succession plan and announce he’d take over by whatever year they decide ?

Seems like that’s not their plan if they’re not prepared to lock him down so he doesn’t explore other roles .. or maybe he doesn’t want that either
