If the current trend continues there's a chance Putin may very well withdraw which would have previously been unthinkable.

The danger is he goes all in again though. Another mobilization and turns Russia into a giant war machine with help from Iran & North Korea.

Not to mention that Russification has been attempted many times by various Russian empires going back to the mid 1800s. It is happening right now in occupied Ukraine - see posts just recently of Mariupol residents receiving letters from Russia stating their property was infact owned by local occupation authorities and they had to leave almost immediately. Millions murdered, genocided and starved.

I dare say that support would evaporate immediately if Ukrainian state / armed forces and allies went on a mass genocidal murder / killing / sexual assault spree in Russia. This is the reason why Iranian Khamenei dictatorship and its terror proxies are reviled internationally - the world is better off without them. And that's directly relevant to this thread as Iran armed Russia to launch mass suicide drone attacks on Ukrainian civilians.

The West came late and slow in support of Ukraine.
The invasion of Ukraine started in 2014. russia was in Crimea in 2014. In 2014, russian-backed fighters began an uprising in Donbas.

Even under the Biden administration Trump and his republican fascist mates delayed the last agreed package to Ukraine by 12 months in congress. Since 2024 Ukraine has had little to no support from the US. There is even $400 million of congressionally approved military aid that has been withheld.

It is a pleasant surprise that Ukraine has actually strengthened itself militarily significantly in that time. Obama was weak on Russia. Did token sanctions due to Crimea. Set a red line for Syria, that then let Russia break without consequences. No surprise then when Biden was President he didn't expect any real consequences. Then always slow with what equipment would be provided. Usually smaller numbers of similar equipment by other allies first to show the sky hadn't fallen in (UK with Challenger Tanks etc.). Then Trump of course willing to sell anyone out if they line his and his family / supporters pockets. Even now we still have not one country has been willing to turn over Frozen Russian assets to Ukraine. Germany doesn't supply Taurus etc.

Even here in Australia we chopped up helicopters that could have gone to Ukraine. The Ukrainians asked for Hawkei's and none provided. Whilst the budget is doing the required thing of boosting defense spending, which is required to deter / potentially have to help counter China over Taiwan. But this is 10's of billions extra. The best way to deter China, is ensure Russia is defeated, so they don't have Russia tying down US / European forces in Europe, that Xi wants. Australia could spend 1 - 2 billion of that massive increase on Hawkei's, Bushmasters, drones, artillery shells etc. for Ukraine and it'd be a vastly greater 'bang for buck' deterrent then anything else we could do.
