Review Dees v the Living Dead that is the Bummers: the Good, Bad and the Fugly

Doubt the replay will be getting much of a workout but you take a 45 point win off a 5 day break.

  • Kolt continues to make me look like an idiot.
  • The new boys both look handy
  • Petty looking good forward, real shame he got injured.
  • Lever having a great year
  • Kozzy and Gawn being Kozzy and Gawn.

- Laurie absolutely stinks.

Going to be pretty wet next week in Adelaide. Surely can't keep rolling with our tall forward structure. Pretty is a lock if he is OK. I reckon I would drop Kentfield if required. Nothing against him, just think we need team balance.

Probably take that after a 5 day break and an intense KB match. Comfortable enough win aside from that 3rd quarter, although I didn’t think Essendon were ever a chance.

Still so much we need to work, it’s a shame our inside 50s have deteriorated the past month, hope we can fix that, defence obviously still a worry too.

Sitting in 4th at this stage of the season though, nobody was predicting that, keep on keeping dees.

Alright, watched it on delay so here I am

Wet game and as horrid as the bummers are they do tend to try and battle out games after usually getting jumped early

Good
  • Kozzy back to some of his best, the range of his kick and hitting targets much better
  • Gawn was good
  • Kolt battling away down there
  • Bowey was alright, i do like that he gains territory running prior to kicking
  • Rivers actually probably his best game for the year
  • Langdon just collecting the ball
  • Cooke was good up until he got injured, shame as i was excited to see more of him
  • Fitz well i always knew he could find the ball, good to see him do it at AFL level
  • Sharp has had an off few weeks after a great start to the year, but getting back to running power again
  • Turner doing Turner things

Eh
  • Sparrow, i liked his game, but very bomb happy/ not looking
  • Melksham just battled hard, was happy he got some goals
  • Howes was good, do think he's dropped off a tiny bit. But still consistent

Bad
  • Looking a tiny bit lost when the bummers got a run on, Worries me what a Geelong could do in that time before we regained some control
  • Then yeah in relation to that, just not being able to find a goal for a while, but the bummers where quite content to flood
  • Kentfield, a bit more lost this week. But not the week for the big marks
  • Laurie, i mean he got to a lot of good spots, i won't pot him there, and does attempt to tackle. But always seems to think he's under pressure and panics a lot

Fugly
- As i said in his thread, JVR's lack of confidence to mark. Went for so many early chest marks in what i thought was okay conditions to get the hands up, did not back himself at all overhead early

Just a final note on him:

Lowest rated player on the ground (out of both teams), on a day where there were multiple debutants and injuries.

With a whopping 0.5 rating points:

Bailey Laurie.

Lukas Cooke, 32% game time, had a higher score.

Tellingly, the 'Laser' went at -3.6 ball use rating. Equal 3rd worst on ground.

👋

What about his AFL fantasy points?

What happened to Petty? Assume it was in the last quarter when I wasn't watching?
Hammy. Came of telling the bench he'd done his hammy. King seemed to think it was likely but was hopeful it could be more 'awareness'. Said it seemed most likely scenario was he'd be back post-bye, but they have to wait to do scans.

Whats with the obsession? You should be out celebrating with a harem like a real man.
Thats it, I’m putting you on ignore. Not because you are annoying, but because I am a coward.

Amazing how we win clearances swapping out Windsor for Fitzgerald. Huge difference.

Let’s keep this combo for rest of season, play Windsor on wing when he is back.
TBF, playing against a pretty uncompetitive ruckman and Bombers trying things with their midfield mix. That said Fitzgerald looks a natural inside player, did some good things in tight. Still have hopes for Windsor but he is not an inside mid.

i watched this one at a sports bar so will watch the full replay later but i'll say from what i saw:

Good: Getting the 4 points. Mid-season draftees looked good.
Bad: That Kentfield miss just really annoyed me. Like you just gotta kick those. There were many misses but for some reason this one irked me.
Ugly: Defensive pressure really down in the 3rd. Duursma just feasting and doing what he liked. Also some of our kicking, including Kozzie was sloppy.

He doesnt have to be an inside mid, you can still have Windsor in there and keep Fitz, they can both be part of the rotation. Guys like Ed Richards start in the middle and arent an inside mids arseh*le either. You need a mix. Just **** off one of the useless tall forwards.
