Thanks for posting this. I think it does a lot to bring the conversation back to where it ought to have been in the first place. For what it's worth, I'll be voting yes in the postal survey. Because I think, if we can put aside all the political posturing, defence of privilege, and moral...

Yeah I haven't spent enough time with it to speak with any authority. That link was more to point out that equating modern epigenetics with Neo-Lamarckism may not be the most helpful approach. This entire tangent is really getting away from the intent of the thread though ... and yes, I'm...

Interesting. As you dismiss the Bloomberg School of Public Health and The Baltimore Sun with one hand, you hold up the Mayer McHugh report with the other. A report published in The New Atlantis, a non-peer reviewed publication co-published by the Ethics and Public Policy Center, which describes...

That may be. I don't venture onto the main board all that often. I've found it enlightening in part because of the extensive participation of the op, a trans woman playing football in Victoria. That is actually a basic courtesy. Listening to people, understanding what's important to them, and...

46 pages after 2 days suggests that for more than a few people, it's an issue. Reading through those 46 pages provides many opportunities for education and for understanding the differing viewpoints surrounding that issue.

You are allowed to refuse to extend basic courtesy to another person if it hurts your feelings. Like a 5yo. TBH - and I don't know if you're aware of how it sounds, but it does sound to me a lot like many arguments I've heard recently where people resist other basic courtesies and rights...

I think you ought to re-read what I said. If you don't want to do that, a quick summary is that I never said you're legally bound to call someone by any pronoun that they choose. I did say it's polite to recognise their personal preference.

To be clear - as long it is is not intended to cause harm to another person, I'm fine with using whatever pronoun a person wishes to be used in reference to their self. I know people who don't wish to be referred to as "He" or "She". I'm fine with that and I refer to those people in the manner...

I mean all the steps required by law.

Yeah I have done some of those things. And I was in contravention of the law. And if/when I was called on it, I had no reasonable excuse for doing so. I'm not offering myself as a perfect specimen of the law abiding citizen. I would suggest though, that while the examples you cited along with...

Leaving biology to the side, if a person has undertaken all necessary steps to legally change their gender, is it too much to ask that other people use the appropriate pronoun when referring to that person? There are a number of people posting here who seem not only determined to ignore this...

Some tinfoil hat material there. Are you able to elaborate?

I didn't quote your comments out of order. You did: 1. share an opinion 2. were told to "heck off with this s**t" (I have already shared my thoughts on this approach) 3. then called that poster a dickhead (quote 1) 4. and then had a cry about name calling (quote 2)

Bolded for hypocrisy. You are allowed to have your own opinion. However, when you express that opinion, others are allowed to comment on it, even if their commentary is not complimentary. I hear a lot about the "bullying tactics of the left". In some cases, it is perhaps warranted, but in many...
