Soft spot for Brisbane
Okay, I'm mostly doing this because I'm bored at work. There was meant to be a transit strike today, and you can sense the overwhelming disappointment of everyone when there wasn't and we all had to traipse into work.

CROWS FIRSTS:

FF: Edwards, Welsh, Perrie
HF: Hentschel, McGregor, Reilly
C: Burton, Ricciuto, Mattner
HB: Torney, Bock, Johncock
B: McLeod, Rutten, Bassett

1st R: Biglands, Thompson, Goodwin

Res: Hudson, Hart, Knights, Shirley

Crows Seconds:

FF: Meesen, Gibson, Bode
HF: Hinge, Bonnadio, Vince
C: Douglas, Porplyzia, Jericho
HB: Pfeiffer, Stevens, Doughty
B: Massie, Obst, Van Berlo

1st R: Clarke, Elliott, Skipworth

RES: Griffin, Redden, Sugars, Maric

The firsts are basically unchanged from last year (don't know about Jericho though) and should be formidable barring injury as long as the older brigade haven't lost too much pace

The seconds are interesting as much for the potential delistings prior to the '06 superdraft as their potential.
Would suggest these to go:

Definite - Clarke (retiring)
Massie (1 or 2 years too late)
Stevens (unless he takes some nasty pills)

Possibles - Doughty (living on the edge)
Bode (pity I like him)
Skipworth (poor man's Porplyzia?)
Jericho (put up or shutup)
Shirley (only if a classier tagger steps up)

Trades, go homes and rookie elevations will also affect numbers.

IMHO our first XVIII should be

FF: Welsh McGregor Edwards
HF: Hentshel Perrie Thompson
C: Mattner Ricciuto Burton
HB: Torney Bock Mcleod
FB: Basset Rutten Hart
1R: Biglands Shirley Goodwin
Int: Hudson, Johncock, Reilly, Van Berlo

2nd XVIII

FF: Skipworth Maric Meesen
HF: Vince Stevens Jericho
C: Bode Douglas Redden
HB: Hinge Gibson Doughty
FB: Massie Obst Porplyzia
1R: Clarke Pfeiffer Knights
Int: Griffin, Elliot, Sugars, Bonnaido

Looking at the B team there are some VERY exciting names there, mainly:

Bonnadio
Vince
Reilly
Hinge
Obst
Pfieffer
Elliott
Gibson
Porpylzia

Some awesome talent there....

I think we have the ability to be a powerhouse of the competition.

They all have a heap of potential, no doubt, but you can run through those players and list a number of negatives against each one of them.

I do think we will continue to be a top four club over the next few years, because I don't believe Craig will accept anything less.

He is one of the few coaches going around that I honestly think can manage the transition of our older stars fading and our young stars rising without falling down the ladder.

While I hope your'e right, it's pretty much an untried lot and history says some will not make it. No-one there who would cause fear in the heart of the opposition yet, so I would have said promising rather than awesome at this stage.

Cro Mag think your right - great being optimistic but all clubs are probably saying the same thing.

My immediate reaction to the rookie draft result for us was ho-hum - my view hasn't changed much but that will depend largely on our development program and the rookies mental approach to getting better.

Really happy though with National draft and PS draft - great result and IMO we have some beauties:thumbsu:

Put me down for a quote. Reilly will have a good year this year!!! Cement his spot

Do we take heart in the fact that Gibson could have been eligible for this years draft and was once of the youngest pickup in last seasons draft ?

He managed to crack the Norwood league team – while it is not the strongest in the league is still managed to be competitve all season.

Probably needs another season in the SANFL before getting a try in the big league though !

just out of interest everyone keeps putting Hudson in the team, it would be highly unlikely that he will play until the end of the year at best considering he has had a knee reconstruction.

Yeah - but my theory was do it under the theory that you have a full list. There will always be injuries.

I like your side, except I would swap positions of Thompson with Ricciuto and Hart with Torney.

I think that's about right. It would be nice to see Meesen or Maric in there for Clarke though.

Who would have thought 12 months ago that you could put Bock in your best 18 & not have a  in sight.

I agree, and I think they will.

I agree, but at the expense of whom?

Doughty?
Skipworth?
Someone else?

I reckon Knights should take the spot over either of those players, yet I get the feeling NC, with his conservative approach, won't do this. He seems to have some kind of...phobia.:o

Must be a slow time of year?

How can anyone make any predictions on 2006 - we have only last years form and the promise (fingers crossed) of continued form and development.

We won't really have much idea till we start to get training reports and see some PS games - then let the predictions begin!

Anyone got any ideas on when richard douglas might make his senior debut? He is a classy player and should play alot of senior games if given a chance.
