People, the only reason i am doing this is because i am so bored and i have no life except bigFooty so i thought i might start a ladder predictor thread, which it IS way to early for but it's a bit of fun so who cares.

1. Westcoast - way ahead of the pack with only one challanger sydney, could go either way.

2. sydney - i think it will be between westies and sydney again, as i said they are way more developed then than the rest of the pack.

3. Adelaide - don't think much of them, good team but lacking spark when it counts, always miss solid drive when it comes to finals.

4. freo - i think fourth may be a bit harsh for this team considering the expirience they have gained from this years finals finals.

5. Melbourne - if this team has a consistant year they will be very damaging

6. St kilda - Good team but with the new coach i think they are going to be too rattled.

7 Wetern bulldogs - good running team have to say that i can't see them getting any better than they are.

8. Richmond - i think the plan is to make it to the eight and thats what we'll do, the young guys will have a year or less under their belt and will be pushing to perform. (obveously BIAS)

9. Geelong - struggling immensley, can't see them gaining much from the draft and with there line up void of promising youth, i think it is the start to a major decline for this club.

10. hawthorn - big things in store for this clubs future and i beleive it's going to start next year.

11. kangaroos - should have finished better than they did but i think it's not goin to be much better the following year, most people think geelong we're the under achievers in 06 but i think this team was.

12. Collingwood - same as always uP and down only taking a slice a bread.

13. port adelaide - need to begin there rebuilding phase and with dew leaving the club it seems as tho the home front isn't looking so good.

14. Brisbane - i'm a bit touchy with this team could do good, could go bad but if they don't finish 14th they won't be far off.

15. Carlton - bottom is just to fortunate for a third year round, they'll just have to except pick number 2

16. Essendon - never thought i'de see this day but looks like i am going to, major rebuilding is needed for this club but it's not gonna happed in 07

i understand that this is BS but it's better than replying to crappy threads all day long and it would be interesting to see what other people think so please join in:thumbsu:

I think that ladder looks about right. Collingwood may sneak in as they have a fantastic draw, Geelong will be looking for a new coach, as will the Roos.

I tipped the Eagles to stay on top and probably win the flag, they won't lose at home and will rarely drop a Melbourne game as their midfield is super, I think it will be them, and the Dockers to face off in the first derby Premiership.

Ok, no offense. But Carlton finishing 1 spot below Richmond is ridiculous.

wart, you have pretty much copied the 2006 ladder...

Here's my shot at it which would change daily :)

1. WCE - Just too good
2. Fremantle - Will continue improvement
3. St. Kilda - They'll do well with Lyon in his 1st year (bar major injuries to key players)
4. Sydney - Same as last few years, end 4th and get to GF
5. Adelaide - Starting to slide, slowly
6. W. Bulldogs - Better than '06 but not there yet
7. Geelong - Improve on 2006 but still not where they should be
8. Richmond - Bias, Melbourne and/or Pies (easy draw) will probably take this spot as well as Geelong's

9. Collingwood - Easy draw, should make finals but wanted to fit Tiges in :p
10. Demons - Same as Pies
11. Port - Improve on 2006 but have a very young team
12. Roos - Crap again but better than teams below
13. Hawks - Improving again but too young, still
14. Bombers - Still redeveloping
15. Blues - Just plain crap AGAIN
16. Lions - Miles behind with all those players leaving (Voss, Akermanis and so on)

As an outside supporter - this is my Summer prediction;

1. West Coast - I can't see anyone getting close to matching the Eagles next year

2. Fremantle - The biggest underachievers over the last 5 years, if they don't make the top 4 again Connolly deserves the chop Thomas style

3. Melbourne - Make or break year for the Demons, if they don't make the top 4 next season they will go backwards and will require a full rebuild in 2008

4. St.Kilda - Personally I think they are over rated, but with a new coach and the draw from heaven a top 4 position is a must. The clock is ticking

5. Western Bulldogs – I’m probably going against the grain here but in my eyes people are over rating the Bulldogs. Sure they are quick and have excellent footskills, but do they have the quality KP players required to win the big matches/late in September?

6. Sydney - With another year worse for wear, can the Swans climb the mountain again....the law of averages says they won't get another dream run with injuries

7. Adelaide - Could well be the big droppers next season.

8. Richmond - 2005 – 10. 2006 – 9. 2007 – 8. It’s a natural progression. If I was a Tigers fan I’d expect to see natural improvement and consistency from Tambling, JON, Polo, Jackson, Myer etc. If you can get improvement out of this 2-3rd year player bracket I can see Richmond playing finals next year. The AFL hasn’t helped with your draw though…

9. Hawthorn We are still a year away from playing finals. Naturally I’m hoping to see continued improvement and consistency from Franklin, Roughead, Lewis and Birchall. But I’m also hoping Dowler, Muston and Ellis can come on and give us good service next year. Like the Tigers, a lot of our improvement will come down to the development of the 2nd and 3rd year players.

10. Port Adelaide – For a side that has been up the top for 4-5 years, they have amassed amazing talent over the past 2-3 years. They still have their problems – structurally, they’ll improve a lot over last season if Tredrea can stand up for an entire season. 10th will be around the mark they will finish in my eyes.

11. Collingwood – When you draw 15 games at your home ground, naturally you should be assured of an adequate year on the field. The Tarrant loss will hurt them – despite his troubles he did at least take away an important defender and act as a smoke screen for Rocca and co. Without Tarrant, Collingwood’s forward line looks fairly bare.

12. Geelong – With the troubles they have down at Catland I can’t see them making a charge for the finals. They are what I term a ‘good ordinary team.’ They have plenty of decent players, but lack genuine match winners – with the exception of Gary Ablett junior, what player have they got that can turn the game?

13. Brisbane – Some are tipping them to win the spoon…While I can see they definitely have structural problems – especially down back, if Brown can stand up and with 13 Queensland ‘home’ games, expect them to win a respectable (given the circumstances) 7-9 games.

14. Carlton – In terms of improvement, its only a matter of time before Carlton begin the trek up the ladder again – given the draft picks they are starting to assemble. Like the Hawthorn side in 2005, I see Carlton as a club turning the corner…baby steps.

15. Essendon – Sheedy has over rated the list IMO. They have some decent youngsters, but fair to much deadwood on their list to challenge next year. Granted as a self confessed Essendon basher, I probably don’t have that much creditability but I see along next few years for the Dons.

16. Kangaroos – Talking from experience, when will clubs recognize that topping up by trading draft picks for middle aged to senior players is the wrong way to go about ascending up the ladder? If wooden spooners were awarded in Summer, the Kanga’s would be in line to receive it. But, the team that is tipped to win the spoon rarely ever does.

Teams that are better than Richmond;

West Coast - best in comp
Sydney - not that far behind west coast
Adelaide - getting older but still better than Richmond
Fremantle - turning into an elite team
Western Bulldogs - 2 years ahead of Richmond
Melbourne - older, more better than Richmond
St Kilda - same as Melbourne
Collingwood - very good draw and got better senior players
Geelong - had one bad year but still better than Richmond

Freo shouldn't be too far away from a premiership. The afl boosted the game in qld by giving the lions 3 premierships. They finally got Sydney the premiership to reduce gay rugby crowds to an average of 5000 per game ;). They gave West coast 3 premierships to make them feel less isolated from the league being 3000km away from Melbourne. They welcomed Adelaide by giving them 2 premierships and they wanted Ports crowds to average more than 30,000, so they gave them a premiership. So I guess it's Freo's turn, even though they have a middle of the ladder list. I predicted us to win about 11 games, but I'm starting to think that Melbourne, St kilda, Adelaide and Sydney will drop because they have had 3-4 years near the top and have passed their peak and will slide. Anyway:

Freo-because the afl want them to win it
West Coast-dunno if they will win it back to back
Bulldogs-up and coming
Melbourne-consistent but not good enough
Sydney-going down now
Adelaide-passed their peak
St Kilda-blew their chance
Richmond-the bulldogs of 2006 almost
Collingwood-suffer, it's your turn for 9th, Handed a dream draw as usual
Geelong-too many late draft picks in recent years
Hawthorn-some good youngsters, but some crap ones too
Essendon-not as bad as 2006 suggests. Had close losses and big injuries
Kangaroos-full of rejects
Port Adelaide-rebuilding
Brisbane-rebuilding
Carlton-suffer, how's it feel you spoilt blues fans on last century

History has shown that one team will slip from the top four in a dramatic way. History also shows that there's always one 'bolter' from the depths of the ladder. And if I'm not mistaken, I think history also shows that two teams that make the eight in one year, won't make it the following year. So based on those theories:

Fremantle (they've admitted as such by trading away top draft picks, that the window is wide open. never a better opportunity to pinch a flag)
West Coast (remains to be seen whether the hunger is still there after losing in 2005 and then scaling the peak by winning in 2006)
Melbourne (last roll of the dice for Neale and his band of merry men. Expect the Dees to go all out for one last tilt)
Sydney (Best coach in the caper, still a good list, but a big mistake to get Everitt in my opinion. have been a solid team the last two years, Everitt is all about me, me, me)
Western Bulldogs (still a year off delivering the goods in a major way. Still question their lack of depth though)
Geelong (blind man's bluff picking this mob. Could finish bottom four, but the list is too good to let that happen)
St Kilda (the Saints start the slide back to mediocrity and will never at any stage be mentioned as a 2007 premiership contender)
Port Adelaide (superb young list, just not sure whether Williams is the man to develop it. Expect improvement though.)

Adelaide (on the wane and won't be so invincible at home)
Hawthorn (on the up, things will get better, but only just)
Richmond (feel we might have to take a step backwards to take two steps forward in 2008)
Collingwood (not even a dream draw will help the Pies. Rocca is their only forward now with Didak out. Need I say more)
Carlton (things will improve for the Blues. Younger players will get another 20 games under their belt. Pagan won't be the man to take them forward though)
Essendon (Lloyd will help, but not much. No depth. few hard years coming up for the Bummers)
Kangaroos (no real matchwinners and continued scrutiny about their future won't help Laidley)
Brisbane (official rebuilding stage although if J. Brown plays a full season, then who knows. Big years for Brennan and Merrett and if they finally deliver and if Sherman and co can continue to improve, may end up making me look like a tool for predicting a spoon for Lethal's men)

who cares about ladders the eagles have been the best team the last 2 years and as long as their current side turns up to games they will win

1. Sydney - Nearly knocked off WC. in B. Hall's worst game of career and others quiet. Will bounce back and take another flag.
2. West Coast - Quick, skillful and home ground advantage.
3. Melbourne - Younger players will come on to assist the talented older lot.
4. Adelaide - Still a quality midfield. Getting older though.
5. Bulldogs - All heart, exciting to watch. Just missing a link or two to break in to top 4.
6. St Kilda - Interesting to see what a new coach and fewer injuries would do. I don't expect miracles in 1st year.
7. Geelong - Aren't as bad a last year suggests. Will improve and still got home ground advantage.
8. Fremantle - Home ground advantage, last year was a fluke. Just sneak in.
9. Port Adelaide - The younger brigade will generate quite a few wins, start gelling a bit more and may surprise a few top 8 teams.
10. Collingwood - Slipping down. Young kids and new draft picks will be interesting to watch though.
11. Richmond - I love being pessimistic.
12. Hawthorn - Young kids still developing. Will start to look dangerous at end of season. Expect big improvement in 2008.
13.Roos - Trying to get by on a shoe-string budget and heart will not produce enough wins. Have a soft spot for the Roos, would love to see them higher.
14. Essendon - Hird playing bit parts, Lloyd not back to his best and core group not good enough. Sheedy losing the plot more and more as each day passes.
15. Carlton - Still in the hole. Question marks over the coach.

Pretty good effort there Harvs. Only change I'd make is to move the Tigers up to 6th (I love being optomistic) and drop the ones you have at 6-10 down a peg. I reckon with another year under the belt of our up and comers and a better looking structure to the team we can steal 2 or 3 more wins and get up to 6th. Still lacking depth though and a few injuries would cut deep. Until we fix that we won't be a serious contender.

The Saints with a new coach are hard to pick, but their list is lacking a bit of depth to support their big guns and their list management over the last couple of years has been poor.

Freo will be next years Geelong. Their supporters will be thinking they just need to turn up to get a flag, but will be left disappointed. Going for Tarrant instead of addressing their real needs in the midfield is a sign of a club that has over-rated their own list and thinks they are closer than they really are.

Sydney won't finish the home and away on top but they might at the business end. They only played 8 games against top 8 sides in the home and away this year (winning 3) and got into the top 4 on the back of wins against strugglers. But they know how to perform when it counts so if they get themselves up into the 4 again they are a big chance to finish as premiers.

I think you could be right there, going for the likes of tarrent does show confidence in there list, which i believe is good but still needs improvment how much of that void tarrent and solomon will fill is yet to be seen

Firstly, mind your manners on another team's board. If I spewed forth that dribble on your board, I'd get banned for a fortnight.
Secondly, how much impact do you think first-year players will have? if think that a few picks in the top 30 will have an immediate impact, then you haven't been around footy for long.
Collingwood did well to trade for some very good picks. I take my hat off to them for looking to the future. But if you think these kids are going to step onto an AFL field in round 1 in 2007 and start delivering immediately, then you are deluded.
