Drafted in 2016, Brooke Lochland arrives at the Swans with six seasons of AFLW experience to her name. A premiership player at the Western Bulldogs, Lochland was named AFLW All Australian in 2018.

Born and raised in Melbourne, Lochland began playing football at a junior level. However, with no pathway to professional AFL at the time she pursued a career in speed skating, where she reached a career-high ranking of 5th in the world.

AFLW coach Scott Gowans said:

“Brooke is a midfielder who plays forward. She possesses impressive speed and is able to drive the ball forward and kick goals.

“From being on the world stage with her speed skating, to her time at the Bulldogs where she was a premiership player, Brooke is going to be a huge asset to this team.

“In gaining Brooke, we gain her knowledge of the AFLW journey, and we believe she’ll drive those standards and help our younger athletes grow.”

Terrific to get a pacesetter to help the less experienced players understand what is needed to perform at the highest level. Great get!

Lochland boasts an impressive AFLW resume. Thirty-five career games, a premiership, an All-Australian guernsey and the record for most goals kicked in a single game. So, when presented with the challenge of being a part of something new, a move to a new city and a new job to boot, she leapt in with both feet.
...
I'm really excited to build something new here, build a new club culture here as well. And we've got such support from the club, and from Tom and Kate and Scott. They're just such great leaders."

All-Australian Lochland signs off in style
Sydney goalsneak Brooke Lochland turned back the clock in her farewell match as the curtain closed on a decorated career. The 33-year-old was swamped by teammates after snapping the Swans' first major but was soon moved to a wing as the hosts turned to her experience to shut down the Eagles' outside run. Lochland's retirement points to the end of an era after she was one of the early stars of the competition with an outstanding 2018 season as the AFLW leading goalkicker, an All-Australian, and a premiership player with the Western Bulldogs. Lochland joined the Swans as an inaugural co-captain in 2022 and showed signs against the Eagles that she still has enough left in the tank even after 64 matches across two clubs.

After her retirement (and before) Brooke has been involved with the Academy - coaching the girls.

However now she seems to have joined the assistant coaches with the seniors. Today she appeared to be the line coach for the forwards. Stoked to have her staying involved with the club and not rushing back to Victoria.

Isn't her partner involved with the men's team?

Isn't her partner involved with the men's team?

I was about to say yes, but I was thinking of Alannah Woodward's husband, Dean Kelly, who is one of the coaches for the men. [https://www.sydneyswans.com.au/news/1276627/coach-dean-kelly Line coach in the VFL and also involved with the seniors in some capacity - he's usually around on match day.] I have no idea who Brooke's partner may be or if she has one. If you know more, I'm all ears.
