Waite shouldn't be risked if he is struggling for fitness. He hasn't fired a shot since his injury and we don't need another tall playing at 80%. Get him right first and give last night's successful set up another run.

Had to feel sorry for him with that one Drew fumbled on the wing. He looked up, saw Maj and decided not to kick it to him....fumbled.
WTF Drew ?
Give it to the big fella.
I saw that differently. I thought Maj should had made a strong lead towards him. I was yelling at the TV for him to provide a strong lead and option as soon as drew looked up field.

Not at all clear that Waite will be back next week.

With both Petrie and Waite wanting to play on in 2017, I'd like to think we could rotate them. Especially with Wood back in the side. I think we have a better balance playing a competent 2nd ruck.

I heard Waite is out for another few weeks.

Daw had some mind boggling bad moments but i'm happy enough for him to stay in and get a run of games in Waite's absence.

He's right.

FWIW I thought the first was very harsh. He was running at full tilt towards the player before he took the grab. He's 100+ kg's and running at 45km/h - he can't just stop on a dime and magic himself somewhere else.

I love that.

Daw has that lack of awareness when the ball is coming in or leading to the ball. The decision making on where to put his body is awful. Gets pushed out of position way too easily because he is unsure where to sit

But, I swear it's all mindset and lack of confidence because it seems like as the game goes on and feels like he belongs in the team he lifts. Starts to apply those second effort tackles etc which is what we want from him

He gave Goldy a lot of rest last night and I loved how brad persisted with Majak in the middle

Continuity is the key here for maj. He is a confidence player. Wouldn't mind seeing him get 10-15 possessions for the next few games and increase that tackling pressure as I think Waite is going to be wrapped in cotton wool for a while

If Waite is fit, he comes in and Daw goes out. Very simple. Getting Waite back and firing is crucial for North's finals hopes.

I don't think so. I think they've decided to roll the dice. We're struggling, Waite has been injured, Wells is in and out, Goldy is playing with a handicap. I suspect they've made the call and want to give Daw a block of games until finals to be our wildcard.

Will stay in IMHO - irrespective of who else comes back in. Call it a hunch.

Serious? Daw should of already been moving up... don't know if Daw was being held or perhaps even snoozing? (read: didn't understand wtf to do) to lead up... Petrie waited long enough.. you couldn't expect Drew to kick a 70-80 metre bomb when 50 is his range without a lead.... Another reason why I'm not sold on DAW at all. Was caught behind on many occassions.. if he doesn't get that run up for a regulation sit on the opponent.. he can't be relied upon. Sadly lacks nous. Very limited mentally (footy smarts) even after 6-7 years at the club.

Does anyone doubt for one moment that if Maj completed 4 or 5 of those marks that he clearly got both hands to last night, we wouldn't be even having a conversation about his football nous? Once/if he starts clunking them he will be a permanent fixture in the team - guaranteed.

I'm sure you'll agree that he let himself down with so many 'BASIC ERRORS' ...dropped a bunch of 'UNCONTESTED MARKS' which isn't a surprise.. (read: not the first time) seen him disappoint time and time again. His 'brilliant moments' are way too rare. I like the fact you're being honest by stating 'ONCE / IF' ...but how long can we wait for him to actually string a handful of attempts let alone games with real skills?

To quote the late Chuck Noll... and it's prevalent to any AFL footballer.. "Good things happen to those who hussle"

You really think that a spectacular mark earns him a 'footy nous' card?? :rolleyes:o_Oo_O

How did you think his ruck work was last night for the 30-40% of time he was asked to ruck?

FYI that was a rhetorical question.

Yes 99% of that played in the reserves how is the bloke meant to get experience at senior level playing in the seconds with no continuity of games in the seniors. The bloke offers more the Goldy and Browm as attributes can ruck, good at ground can hold marks and can lay bone crunching tackles, once he can master those attributes with more game time he will be a great investment for our club.
But he must be given more opportunity 19 games over 6 or 7 years isn't going to produce a confident well rounded player.

I can understand his inclusion and it's to give Goldy some much needed relief. Kudos to Majak for getting that part of his game 'to AFL standards' but really.. can be alot better I would expect. The umpires crucified him on a few occasions last night because it happens a katrillion times a season and nothing doing with such 'ruck bullocking' and 'encroaching the mark ever so slightly'.. as Carey pointed out.

It's easy to understand where he is in the pecking order and rightly so. It's the 'basics' of his game that is more about footy nous at AFL level that makes look inadequate and explains why he hasn't cracked 30 games yet. Don't get me wrong Alpine and any other Daw admirer.. I appreciate the physicality he brings but sheeesh.. frustrates the beejesus outta me with his basic blunders. Too timid at times. And other times is so sublime but rare.

To be fair maybe daw should have been leading. I think drew expected him to and didn't have the range to kick it to Daw's advantage when he shaped to kick the first time. He fumbled cos he was readjusting to hold the ball for a moment more and then kick deeper.

At the time I was unsure whether Daw should have led or not.

Should Daw lead cos his speed and leap are elite but the kick would be on an angle and a lot further out, or use his strength and maintain his position with a much easier shot on goal? Don't think its as simple as saying he doesn't have the nous for the game.
