Fraser Gehrig what a character he was. Use to love watching him play. Was so unpredictable and I can't ever recall someone starting out there career as a lightning wingman only to turn out being a monster full forward with 15 years of weights and roids under his belt. Could play.

I used to love watching him play except for when we played them and he smashed us. Most of my family barrack for Saints and when he was kicking bags against us it wasnt too enjoyable when they had such a love fest for him.....and his mullet yelling out Gtrain etc.

I really hope Maj is playing VFL this weekend because based on his pre season game form he will struggle badly in the intensity of rd 1 against the Weagles.

I get that players can be a bit rusty but it is very alarming how he still has no idea where the ball is going to land when he goes on a lead. I love the guy but he will be overtaken by McKay and Preuss very very quickly if he doesnt improve in his overall game in the first half of the season.

The old excuse of he didnt play football until he was 14 doesnt fly much anymore given Preuss picked up a footy at 16

Still think Maj will get the nod in Rd 1 barring a catastrophe this week – particularly with Wood still out and Preuss a way off running out a game. If they’re intending on playing the first 6-8 games with an eye on a finals spot they will want to be banking on Daw coming good. Just my opinion.

Jeez. Some of our games, it's all I can do to watch once. I think watching the whole game - i.e. staying out of gameday hunting season before commenting on players' value - is a fair compromise.

Don't we always? Except maybe on Greenbucks. Lately I can't help think what we could have gotten from GWS when they first came on the scene and they wanted coveted youngster Ryan Bastinac. We might have one of Greene, Haynes or D. Smith.

I reackon of Majak had as many opportunities as say a Hanson or a Mullet he would be a very good player . Remember practice makes perfect . He needs constant game time just like all the your kids everyone talks about . Lay off the big Daw because when it opens the other teams better look out .

Yeah, was thinking the same.

I watched him a bit against GWS and noticed that while he remains hit and miss around the ball, he is now fit enough to play a full game, and understands our structures and systems and understands where he needs to be on the ground. Even if that means guarding grass so that the opposition can't make an easy transition to the weak side.

Plus even if he does misjudge the flight of the ball, he makes defenders accountable - as a defender you can't just assume the ball will go over Maj's head too often and sag off him, cos with his prodigious leap he might just pluck it out of the air. You have to body check him, which means the defender's not going to be able to take easy marks on him. And Maj is so strong that unless he is completely out of position (whether self inflicted or a shit kick) he's generally going to give a good marking contest and bring the ball to ground. We'd all love 4 or 5 contested marks and a couple of goals, but if he's at least achieving this and giving LT, Hrovat, Turner etc a chance at ground level then he's adding something.

Preuss, whom I've loved through pre-season, clearly isn't fit enough yet to handle what will happen when the heat goes up a notch in round one. He'll blow up and be a liability rather than an asset. And yeah, I'd love to have Wood in and play a Wood/Waite/Brown forward line with Goldy rucking solo. That would be great, but alas.

So I'd be thinking that at the very least, even if he doesn't get many possessions or kick many goals, at least Maj would give a good contest, give Goldy a decent chop out in the ruck and stick to systems and structures, which is probably enough to make him of value. If he goes on and does something, even better.

Agree with you agreeing with me.

They signed him up for what (3?) years based on Drew being out of the way, Goldy getting on and Waite close to the end. They basically need to give him 18+ games this year. Invest in the development for the next 3 years or be in a position to say he's a ruckman only (and either plan for him to be a team with Preuss later on or look to get trade value as such).

Basically, I think we will play him barring disastrous form or injury this year - and that is probably the right, or even the only way to go.
