Player Watch #1: Nick Vlastuin - Extended Until 2027

I noticed Can Corn said that selecting the captain of the AA team was based on body of work and contribution over a number of years. But then they don't choose Vlastuin when it is line ball and he's been a gun for years without recognition. #robbed #geelongmafia

Lol, all the players with bodies of work are Cats, because these gooses keep picking them in very debatable situations.

The AFL should be telling the selectors the criteria for the team and it shouldn't change. Not saying to a bunch of ****wits make up your own criteria year to year and just pick any side you want. At times like 2019 they are excluding players like Dusty who dominates multiple positions and including other players because they just played one position less well than Dusty did. Then other times they are suddenly picking players in unfamiliar roles because they deem them to be better players than specialists in those roles. But always when it suits their favourites, these precepts are never being used to exclude a Dangerfield, Pendlebury etc from the team.

One year a player is left out because he missed 4 games and no other reason. Then another time a player misses 5 or 6 and gets in.

The criteria need to be made clear otherwise selection just has no credibility and selection or non-selection can never be seriously used as a delineator between players' careers when comparing them.

Didn't realise Nick damaged his lower leg as badly as he did 🤕. But should probably have known when he needed help to get off the ground. Nick interview on the RFC website.

I believe Dangerfield has been selected in the AA 'squad' of 40 8-times. And selected in the final team 8-times.

Dustin Martin has been selected in the AA 'squad' of 40 8-times. For 4 x selections.

When the selection panel includes at least half a dozen media identities, and Dustin Martin despises them with a passion whilst Danger is their lovechild, is it any wonder the above ratio exists?

So Danger is selected in AA squad 44.4% of seasons played. Martin 53.3% of seasons played.

But because of selector bias it's 8-4 selections Danger's way. Looking back it should be 6-7 x AA to Danger and 6 to Dusty.

Dangerfield knows Dusty beat him in finals. Dusty's got the highlights and medals to prove it. That's all that matters.

Hoping he comes good as the season progresses and he finds match fitness, but in his 3 games this season he's yet to take a contested or intercept mark, which has been a real strength over his career. Considering how often the ball has been coming into his area, this is a bit of a watch for mine.

Clearly not 100% in injury or match fitness? I'm guessing tbh...

Game seems to have gone past him. I brought him up last year and got flamed for it. He really needs to step it up and perform so we can remain competitive in games.

Didn’t have a pre season. I’m not worried

A lot of us were thinking he had 2 or 3 more years. He doesn't look happy or even going at 150% like he did before. Maybe his injury was worse than he thought or he sees little ahead that is good in the short term and I wouldn't be surprised if he ends his career earlier than we thought. Like them or not Danger and Cameron look like they are enjoying and wanting to play. yes there team is successful and that perhaps is the reason why nick doesn't look like he is enjoying his football

He made th AA squad last year, and made statements to the effect he was struggling with his foot before the season even commenced.
