And what about the Def Jux stuff (cold vein, labor days, fantastic damage, i phantom, deadringer).

It all comes down to personal opinion, but Tupac deffinately had the best lyrics. Grandmaster flash, ezy-e et al had massive influences on the whole rap scene on the first place, so maybe them? I dunno depends what the #1 is specifically referring to
