It’s all more stock for the argument that 18yo is too young to be drafting.
The current draft age we have had us taking McGrath so yeah think of a world without McGrath in Essendon colours and that’s the world where the Draft age was raised

It's not that 18yo is too young. List sizes are too small. Let those that need time develop in a reserve grade and don't stifle freaks like Timmy Watson.

We’d still have the first pick, it’d just be from the 20yos and not the 18yos.

There’s pros and cons, I hear what you’re saying.

The argument is that it makes drafting too difficult. I think those that need time in the reserves do get it currently... it’s just that when the clubs get a draft pick, it becomes much easier to properly identify who to use it on.

On Francis, playing a sport he loved with his mates, was good at, with his family around all the time. Then moved to another state, with added pressure and no family and friends around - now finds the sport he liked as a kid not as enjoyable.

Raising the draft age isn't necessarily going to identify issues like this. Schache in similar circumstances.

I personally don't buy that, but I also look at the situation as if I was in the position. Turning 17/18 I was money oriented, I travelled to gain the best coin.

It might because he'd probably end up living in Adelaide away from his family and social network. Not as far away as he is now but enough to ease him into the idea of living alone

I'm not really sure why you don't believe it? Just because you travelled as a teenager, doesn't mean that others will be able to easily do so.

I'm only 30 now, so I don't consider myself as an old generation... But jeez I've noticed the younger they are the softer and more entitled they are...
But hey let's all play PC and give everyone a ribbon for participating.

And I left home as soon as I could at 16 but the point is not about buying it. Everyone is different and situations are always different.

Besides the younger generation's inability to cope without being connected to some form of technology, I don't think they are any different to earlier generations, some are lazy, some are soft yet there are many that are not, just look at ZMerrett and Andy McGrath, neither could be accused of being lazy or soft.

everyone is different. Im 36, and at Francis' age i passed up a good opportunity because i wasn't sure i wanted to move interstate and away from family and friends.
Even now, i'm reluctant to look at offers to work overseas. It would be great to see the world, but home is where the heart is for some people.

Nice to hear that my boy will be back playing sooner rather than later. Will hopefully start playing some VFL games in the next month and set up to hopefully crack into seniors after the bye, form and fitness permitting.

I’m the exact opposite. I’ve barely lived in a place longer than 3 years and constantly need to experience new things. I will take those opportunities just because it’s new rather than if it is better.

It’s very hard and unfair to judge people from afar. Good luck frang!

When you're looking at that position, are you factoring in the death of an immediate family member shortly before being removed from that support structure?
