I just don't think there is much genuine interest in watching or hearing about it.
They've obviously got a lot of financial promotion so a lot of it seems forced because AFL needs their investment to pay off.
Compared to womens cricket or sokkah and the quality isn't there.

I heard a similar rant. A vexed situation for sure. I am sure there are "trolls" who text him belittling the W (without substance), which gets andy riled up. That is what they want.

Funny enough he read a text which said "you've been telling us to like it since December", which he denied (i agree with him there).

Actually i get the impression he's talking about it as it drives talkback and feedback. Yes he's involved with it, but there is another motive.
There are troll about every sport topic.

As much as his preaching for 30 minutes annoyed the hell out of me they then changed the topic to something about casting afl players in a movie. All of a sudden his preaching wasn't so annoying!

i dont feel it's being rammed down our throats, but can see how it is construed this way. We as a society are not used to aflw on the airwaves.
I don't mind them talking about the upcoming games, players ext.

But it seems Maher does that for 15 minutes and then spends the next 15 minutes preaching to us

It's like somehow who constantly talks about their kid and how good they are. After a while you start to dislike the kid purely for how much the parent preaches about them

I like the fact girls are playing football.

But expanding the comp to 14 teams in its infancy has severely damaged the quality of product. I mean the mens game struggles with the depth of quality having 18 teams and that is a fully fledged professional league that has been around for a long time.

I like Gary and Tim in the morning but if you are going to have an athlete on saying 'we profess to not being experts in this sport doesn't cut it when it sounds like you haven't done any ******* research.

the Jorge Masvidal interview was as bad as it gets
Think they say that because when they ask what seems like an obvious question, people mainly on here jump all over them..

On RSN other morning Pies Sharni Layton was on. She’s apparently a very good netballer, but as she herself has admitted, only just started playing footy and learning the rules. She still struggles with basic kicking/handball.

Fine let them play, but seriously talk to her about something she’s very good at, like every sports person interviewed on sports shows ie in her case netball, not “oh yeah took me a year to learn the team plan....etc” due to lack of game knowledge

Thats it! It will turn people off, maybe

You make a valid point about quality.

There are pro afl types (afl only) who say the a-league is shit because the quality isnt there. I agree, the quality is not there, especially if you compare to other countries around the world. But they also say aflw is good, despite the quality lacking also.

Suppose you cant change the minds of one who is biased.

Great post. Thing is, sharni layton probably did not receive the same attention she is attracting now as a netballer. Average joe or jolenne didnt know who she was either.

Not too dissimilar was Gary n Tims interview with a very wiitty & engaging Australian womens basketballer this morning
who's name escaped me as i was driving with the window down & no it wasnt Cambage, anyway theyr playing the U.S somewhere
soon,a huge game and she was a good listen.
im pretty sure one of them asked her what she thought of AFLW & would she like to play it ?...& i was thinking y would u ask her that ?
they dont ask AFL players,A league players or Cricket players if theyd like to drive formula 1 for a living ??..not unless they the player brings it up
n im pretty sure she didnt raise the topic

cringeworthy that is. It's like when international sporting personalities are here (ie aust open, F1) and journos ask them what they think about australia, vegemite etc. PLEASE SAY YOU LOVE US!!!!1111!!

Like the crowds that go and watch them , no one cares about them
Well with the AFL giving you a plate of success in recent years and having been able to pay players over salary cap like Tippett and 2 strikes the White line snorter Should be careful in what you say especially if you start losing and head down the ladder so will your crowds.
It’s happened once before when crapper was the star of the club could happen again.

Never paid anyone over the salary cap champ , it was cost of living allowance of approx. 9% to every player on the list including rookie listed players. Jealousy is a curse.

It was a strange thing the COO. I remember many freo and WCE posters asking why they didn't get it as the COO in WA was on par with sydneys.

Anyway, it wasn't the swans fault. The afl granted it so why not use it. OK odd that the AFL abolished it later.

had the displeasure of being stuck in traffic yesterday having Andy Maher preach to me on the radio for an hour about womens football.

I don't have a problem with womens football and watch a bit of it from time to time but this knob and the others that try and push it down our throats and tell me we have to like it, it starts to make me dislike it.
It's a bit like a loud vegan: they do more harm than good, because ya get so sick of them shitting on so much about it that it puts you off so we start looking for faults. It's human nature, I reckon :D

Of course you didn’t pay over just hope Santa brings you some nice Xmas presents this tear😀

Did anyone else hear Kane Cornes' interview with a Melbourne Rebels player today? He asked a question about resting after games and getting up for the next week. One example he gave of a reason he may be tired or sore was because of State of Origin games. They play union, Kane.

What's interesting is he never really talks about it in much detail. All very superficial stuff.

Cornes place in the media landscape will forever be a mystery to me. He simply has no talent for the caper, is not very bright and appears to regard preparation as a waste of his time. Many sportsmen who give every indication of being a nimrod during their playing career surprise you with their insight, good humour and intelligence after they retire. Kane Cornes is not one of those.

Very tough...you can't say he has no attributes. To me, he is a confident guy who has developed his own schtick; that of being a cheeky provocateur who doesn't take himself too seriously...and who can, unlike many on that station, talk about the inner-sanctum of a club with authority. What does general intelligence guarantee here? An example in politics is Bob Brown, probably then the smartest guy in Canberra...but he was a woeful communicator, shockingly in-articulate (which he himself acknowledges) in a game which, like radio is about 98% communication. Those in the cheap seats can lob shit at him over the fire brigade stuff but he has a cutting rejoinder "I was standing there at a accident where my colleagues were retrieving the tangled body from a trucks' wheels when I thought this is not for me..."
