Apparently some guy placed a $12,000 bet on Freo to win against Crows in round 22.

That easily takes the prize IMO for the most stupid tip/bet/prediction I have heard anyone make all season long.
Just hope it wasn't Sabre. ;)

Hindsight is a wonderful thing, ain't it. :D

I seem to rember quite a few crows fans not keen on there own teams chances.

You go back to my comments & I was very confident about the Crows winning. If you are talking about Ant, he always picks against us! Certainly wasn't a sure thing!

You are a dead set clown ok.crows. Stop always looking for praise about the Crows and make a statement on the field. The Crows are a good side - yes, but you carry on about them like they are premiership favourites by an absolute streak. You're worse than Sabre ;) I put money on Fremantle last season to beat the Crows by over 15.5 points. Now you could say that was the dumbest possible thing to do ever, but the payout was quite handy :)

If you were so confident the Crows were going to win, why didn't you bet on the game?

Ahem.....umm, just for the record, I'm a HE :p

No one's ever made that mistake before Kane.....hmmmm, a typo? :D

My comment was in relation to some joker putting down 12 grand on the 13th ranked side to beat the 3rd ranked side.

Doesn't that strike even Freo fans as a tad foolish?

The reason I mention it is that pre-season quite a few Freo fans had Crows down to come about 13th (where Freo are) and Freo to make the 8. Well, we all live in hope.

But then, when that hope doesn't come out as desired, this joker still puts 12 grand hard earned on it?

That is living in denial if you ask me. This is the most extravagant underestimation of Crows I have ever come across. I guess I note it because I wasn't that surprised to see it come from a Freo fan.

However, none of this says anything about Crows being premiership favourites. Just 3rd vs 13th is quite enough thankyou to still make this a remarkable error of judgement.

Last season your bet was far more reasonable given Crows approach to the game - they wanted it shifted, they rested players, they counted it as a dead rubber. This year was different, Crows stated attitude pre-game was "we want to take winning form into the finals".

Now I know that public statements are not much to go on with all the ducks & drakes that go on, but imagine Crows making that statement then actually losing the round 22 game this year. Would have had a worse negative impact than last year. After saying what they said about this game, there was no way that Crows were going to lose it if they could help it.

Myself? - I don't bet.

Was Freo 13th at the start of the round? Had Freo lost only one home game all year? Should you take your self-indulgent crow tripe to your own board?

Its called gambling.

Its not about whether you win or lose, its about judging a risk based on what you can win versus what you can afford to lose.

Bookmakers have odds for that exact reason.

If you think Freo would win 1 out of every 3 games, and can get 5 to 1, you may go for it. I do it myself (obviously with smaller sums, but if you have a ****load of money, what does it matter)

Go find the guy, he may give you 10k just to bugger off and shut up, now there is a sound investment.

Personally I think putting 1 dollar in a poker machine is worse than 12k on a two horse race.

Well there is this viewpoint, but if you are going to judge the risks then I think you can do a better fist of it that this guy. If you think that Freo can win 1 out of three games then that is fine they are certainly capable of that. But you might stop just for one moment before putting down $12 grand and think - gee this game is against an opponent that wins two out of three games, (and heck, six out of the last seven) so maybe, just maybe, this particular game for Freo won't be one of the 1 out of three, but perhaps is far more likely to be one of the other 2 out of three?

You know, just a thought.

Another thought is, that this guy has a bit of money.

He goes and bets in 5 matches, $12,000 each.

Just say that 1 pulls off and Freo are 5/1

That takes him even.

Now he pulls if he pulls it off in three matches
He is suddenly $12,000 in front.

My bet is that this guys bets a lot, and I think in the end he would come out in front.

It might be gamble indeed but its calculated that it will come off eventually, with more than one bet, and he will either break even or win big.

didnt happen to see the raping that brizzie gave your hapless crows did you. payback for the saints i say must put a real banger on your grandfinal appearance hopes eh.
