Dedication and desire. Was done to death a few months back

Swans fans often ask themselves why they willingly let Hewett go ?

Every club has these type of stories. I am happy he is doing well at the Saints, but we made the right call delisting him

Liam Stocker was delisted because “hard nut“ isn’t a real stat.

Nobody at the club liked him. He was unpopular among the players Unfairly he was tainted by the SOS association. And the role he's playing at the Saints was covered on our list by Zac Williams, Sam Docherty, Adam Saad, and Nick Newman. There's also Caleb Marchbank, Boyd and McGovern who play similar roles.

I'm glad he's experiencing success at the Saints.

I'm an infrequent reader these days, hence the question.

Interesting about the popularity bit. Yeah it's good to see him doing well early doors.

It’s been done to death… he lacks determination and desire.

What he has is severe anxiety and depression. It’s a crippling combo.
You get picked for a big game. You get excited, then you start worrying about your game and you start double guessing yourself and the anxiety starts to build because a lot of Carlton supporters expect great things. Then when you run out, the anxiety starts tearing you apart. You make a mistake, you try and get it back and make another mistake, and then another… and suddenly, you’re up to your neck in quicksand. The anxiety goes into overdrive and you can’t break free of it, so you shutdown.

Then, after the match, the depression starts setting in. Fight or flight sets in and all you want to do is run away and hide. Your teammates don’t understand what’s going on because you can’t talk about it. It’s embarrassing that you’ve got this weakness that controls your life.

At a high profile successful club like Carlton, with supporter expectations being as high as they are, it would be a nightmare. A club like the Saints is going to be good for him. Coming in as the PSSS, expectations aren’t going to be as high. Maybe he can have a career there where his anxiety doesn’t get triggered as much as it did at Carlton.

Having a mental health issue is not a lack of determination and desire. There can be days when it’s so crippling that you just want to stay in bed. It takes a lot of desire and determination to get out of bed some days, just to go about your normal day, let alone getting kitted up and running out in front of 80k mad football fans.

Good luck to him at the saints for the rest of his career.

This is a very good explanation of anxiety.
I hope Liam is keeping on top of it all, I know the feeling. Playing for an AFL club would really trigger this condition and there's nowhere to escape or seek solitude.
