Several weeks away despite steady progress on a back injury
  • Former first-round pick Nik Cox (back) and the versatile James Stewart (foot) are both progressing steadily through their respective rehab programs but remain several weeks away from being ready to return to full training.

Strength work, not yet running, return to play delayed by 2 weeks
  • Third-year utility Nik Cox’s return to play from a back injury has been pushed back by two weeks as he continues to make steady progress through his rehab program.

McPherson said the Bombers will be extremely cautious with the 20-year-old’s recovery.

’Coxy’ has been doing an enormous amount of strength work in the gym to rehab is back, and despite this taking some time, he is coming along well. His most recent scans have shown gradual improvement, so we will continue with his strength work, and re-introduce him to running in the coming weeks ahead of his return to play later in the year.” McPherson said.

“We’ll continue to take a conservative approach with this injury to ensure we give him all the time he needs to heal properly.”

And he's a utility now btw

Third-year utility Nik Cox is continuing a steady rehab trajectory as he overcomes a back injury.

GM of Performance Daniel McPherson says after conservative recovery periods, Cox is reaching the pointy end of his rehab program.

“It’s pleasing to have Nik continue his steady recovery from long-term injury,” McPherson said.

“He’ll continue to gradually build on his fitness and barring any unexpected hiccups, will be looking to integrate into our main training group over the coming weeks.”

Similarly, utility Nik Cox is enjoying a carefully monitored build into pre-season as he strengthens the ankle joint that troubled him for much of last season. The former pick No.8 is progressing through a strong running block, and has begun a gradual integration into training.

Concussion symptoms return with no triggering incident
  • I would think his career is probably over after this. Not worth the risk when you're getting concussion symptoms with no incident triggering it.
