Player Watch Billy Stretch - delisted

Well the rains have been very good and we're seeing some quite nice pasture develop. With the right diet and socialisation with the other goats I see Billy becoming a fine, strapping creature who should produce plenty virile kids with our other nanny goats.
I didn't realise this was Bay 13..

How do you see young Billy develop in the next year or so?

He already has elite disposal and decision making. With another solid preseason from him and hopefully the improvement of our midfield as a whole we should find the ball in his hands more often. He has the potential to be a damaging player for us.

Decision making was as impressive as id seen from an 18 year old , always seemed to release it at the right time to the right bloke

Needs a stack more on the frame but looks to be a very solid developing wingman

I'm quietly very excited about his prospects. Showed some quality decision making and disposal, and the defensive side of his game was very good, especially for an 18 year old rake. As he gets fitter and stronger he could develop into an excellent wingman.

Yep really liked the signs he showed.

Really impressive snippet from the last training session at the MFC camp in Qld - Stretch covering the most ground. Really great effort from a second-year player.

His gut running could become a huge weapon for us, especially coupled with his decision-making and neat skills.

Second-year player Billy Stretch, former captain Jack Grimes and midfielder Matt Jones finish first, second and third respectively for the most kilometres covered – highlighting the trio’s work rate.

This would make me happier if someone else had Matt Jones' numbers.

To be fair work rate has never been the fault on him - it's always been disposal and decision making.

Billy seems really out of favour atm.

I get the feeling that in the past we would have been relying on someone like Stretch to play 15-20 games a season, which is a positive for us as a side. Just sucks for him.

I wouldnt say he is out of favour, I would just say with bigger more experienced bodies in Bugg, Salem, Kennedy, AVB, Kent and Frost available there will be some blokes pushed out of the side

Seemed odd to take him to Cragieburn and not give him a run though. That's the only reason I mention it - unless he got injured pregame.

I think it was because the Dogs only played 25 players so maybe we decided last minute to do the same?

I think i heard someone say before the game our plan was to play with 23 players and 3 guys where just going to sit on the bench unless there where injuries. So the only reason Wagner and Michie got a run is because Vandenberg and Dunn got a knock.

I was thinking it might have just been to test the rest of the boys out a bit. 3 goals down at 3qrt time, Dunn and AVB out of the game, and Stretch sitting there unused, rotations being heavily moderated ... really see what they've got mentally ...

Like Topkent said he has just been pushed out by guys who are bigger bodies. He'll be a good player in time, but I'm happy for him to develop at Casey for the next 12 months.
For sure, not expecting him to feature best 22 or anything this year.

It was more about pre-season although I suppose Goodwin did say that we'll mostly be at full strength this NAB challenge so yeah he may have just got edged out as you say.

Similar to ANB.

I know what you're saying, I was hoping we would see ANB/Stretch and maybe even Hulett/Max King but we stuck to our 'play our strongest side no matter what' statement.

Yeah I agree, haven't heard a thing about him all pre season. Good i suppose, means he can ease his way in whereas in the past like you said, he'd be more heavily relied upon.
