The problem with Smilie, is that he performed too well, too early and people began to talk him up. What he should have done is gone half arsed, feigned an injury and lowered everyone's expectations so when he actually is ready to play, everyone is excited by his sudden rise.
Patience. He's a 18 year old draftee who is coming off an injury and had an interrupted preseason. Let him find his way in the role he will be playing at AFL Level in the future and understand that we probably wont see him until half way through the season. We have people already playing in his spot and other kids who have been in the system for more years who are stepping up. Celebrate that and enjoy the fact that that gives him more time to develop.
He'll be an inside gun for us for many years to come. We just need to lower our expectations atm and let him come on at his own pace.
