Well,
when the batsmen were dropping like flies around him, Simon Katich hit an unbeaten 168 of 167 balls in a test match againist MCC!!!
Well well, will the selectors be tempted to put him in at number 3 for the first test?

IMO Katich should have been there a long time ago.

And can someone tell me how Noffke gets a run infront of Inness. I don't know what that guy has got to do to get a run.

Surely he will make the test team now after being unlucky missing out a couple of years ago. He is a VERY good batsmen and bloody hell, look at his strike rate in a test match!

There was a long held belief, probably true, that its harder to get out of the Aussie side than in it, and I think Langer has got the 1st maybe 2nd test to do something or he is out and Ponting will go to 3 and Katich to 6.
He cant expect any higher at the moment.
Langer has done nothing since the India/Paki tour of Oz and was extremely lucky before that tour as well so I think he is on notice and Aus will quickly have the best No3 in the world in Ponting.

I'm fairly sure that they will give Langer at least 2 test matches to prove his spot, otherwise Martyn or Katich could easily take his spot in the side. Langer does have the advantage of playing in the English summer and being very successful during his stints in the county cricket also.

Martyn will get in before Katich as he has been in line longer!!!

Martyn is definitely in line before Katich. Less really big scores, but by sheer weight of runs and consistency, and good form in the one-dayers over the last 1-2 years.

Langer would probably be the first to go - Slater's advantage being that there is no specialist opener ready to fill the breach. It seems the selectors don't think too highly of Jamie Cox - perhaps they think he excels at lower levels (County and Sheffield Shield), but will get found out in Tests.
