More leniency OF?? Nah the time is now to make a statement

Is this directed at me?

Needs to be at least 1 "senior" player.

This shuffling kids in and out is rubbish. Bringing in players we intend to drop in a couple of weeks is rubbish.

A very interesting conversation between the two this morning talking North.

When asked about how can a team beat top 4 sides but lose to bottom teams his initial reply was interesting. He said under Laids they would have been told to bring the mouthguards for a bit of rock n roll. So Kings asked what does Scott do he replied that Brad is different and is more subdued and seethes more internally. I might add that he ummed and arred at the start when talking about Scotts.

Then the conversation turned to how individually they took the loss and Grima said that there are players who are emotionally invested in the club who take losses hard while others don't and can distance themselves from it.

I wonder how many Hawks, Dockers, Swans and Cats players in each squad don't feel a loss or the pressure associated with it?

Get real, get tough Scotts, this is a business yet you treat it like some education centre. Get ruthless FFS.

Did he say how far away he was from returning?

This distance thing is interesting. I remember asking Pagan a question after a big loss. His response was that only supporters think you can win every game you play. To some players their footy is a passion - they take losses very hard. To others it is their job and they can usually overcome the disappointment of a loss a lot more quickly.

Having thought about this, if players aren't effected by a loss then they shouldn't have a place at the club. If they are able to seperate themselves from a loss and be unaffected by it... How the f*** are we supposed to win a flag with that kind of mindset, seriously.
Takes me a few days to get over it and I am not employed or paid by this great club!!

Jeez guys, there's so much hopeless guesswork going on here. We've all been taking in too much of the pop psychology shows that we normally complain bitterly about. Bottom line, the team's too up and down at the moment and need to get their act in gear. End of story!

We should install a "Changes" room at Aegis Park, where all players have to front up to the mob who post in the changes thread on BF, venting style, post a disappointing loss.

rubbish - changes should be decided by fan vote.

"SMS BASTINAC to 133 6969 to omit Ryan from Friday nights game!"

That's easy to say as a supporter.

Professional athletes though need to be able to rebound from disappointment just as easily as they need to come down from a big win.

I think it would massively surprise a few posters here who some of the NMFC players are who are from the mindset about being able to emotionally distance themselves from the disappointment of a loss. I also think it's interesting that some of the more pilloried players here at BigFooty are precisely the ones who really do take losses to heart.

I won't mention too many names, but I will say this; having been in the rooms after a loss, one of the players who looked to be taking it harder than most was MacMillan, who has a history of being unfairly criticised often here.

So let's get some perspective, yeah?

Well considering neither of us know exactly who takes losses hardest and who is able to distance themselves from the losses, it is all speculation. As this is an Internet forum for supporters, I can just as easily say that it is better for players to take losses harder, as you can say it's better to remain distant. It all depends on the player, but the fact of matter is, the players are not doing it right, however they are handling it, and need to change.

When we had nothing off field all we had was our on field effort.
And I believe this is part of the problem. We have lost that tough edge.
Before it was us against them, we were the poor relations and fought tooth and nail to muscle our way in.
Most of the blokes playing now really have no idea how tough it was to be a North Melbourne footballer. There is a couple still there but the others have had the great facilities and as such have become SOFT. This Gen Y stuffs irks me. Get them in the boxing ring and make them tough, make them want to fight, want their spot. Doesn't help that the blokes pushing for a spot are a bit thin on the ground too

I would say that the best sides would all have the ability to distance themselves from a loss, and look straight to the next week.

Whether that's the same as not caring I'm not sure.

Agreed.

Could also be that certain players give it 100% and, as soon as the game is over, are able to move on to the next game. Nothing wrong with that IMO.

Reminds me of the story re Gary Ablett snr in the dock and his lawyer trying to make it look like he dodn't know one drug from another. Asked what kind of drugs he thought he had taken instead of saying I think it was ecstasy, he said he took the red mitzi's.

Thing is he comes across as someone that would go nuts...maybe he has that presence of intimidation?

Gen Y don't like being yelled at...maybe that's it?

I remember in Rd 1 v * Gibbo kicked the ball into the corridor and * kicked a goal...it sucked whatever momentum we had ...I followed Gibbo back to his position...runner didnt appear...nothing.

Maybe I am old school, but I do know the Angry Budgie wouldn't have tolerated it.

Remember that thing they had going with Pagan where a player who made a mistake would put their hand up immediately, so everyone could see they knew where they stuffed up?

If a player recovers from a loss quicker than others, who cares that is their nature. As long as they can look in the mirror after the game and say 'I gave everything I could.'
Over a handful of players couldn't say that last Saturday night.

I tend to care more about how a player responds to poor play individually or as a team, during a game rather than after. It says plenty about character and work ethic.

Players, as are teams, are not perfect and will have rough patches form wise. But good teams rarely chuck the towell In, they keep having a crack. I always think of Arch, when he would lose a contest you always knew he was not going to take a backward step next time.

Currently as a team, we simply don't do that.
