Ahhhh 1982 - great days those.
As a 7 year old, me and my mates were busy being the BMX bandits of North Hobart & West Hobart.
The old Hobart Tigers were still sh~t, and it was the last time Richmond made a Grand Final.
I started bowling that year, "Hitline" was huge on the old 7HT at 7-12 midnight Monday to Friday, we only had TVT-6 and the ABC here back in those days.
It was a hot and dry year from memory.

The above are my favourites from 1982. In some ways it only seems like yesterday.

The B side to What About Me was a song called My Sweet Sherie

I was in love with this girl called Cherie at the time and yes I played it more than WAM... I always used to say to my mates musta hit the wrong number ;)

All of these songs would be in my top 100 songs ever. Awesome year, but I think 1984 slightly surpassed it.

my ratings. surely 1982 was better than that.

Certainly not one of the best years for music, in terms of the 80s decade probably the worst of the lot.
A few gems in amongst the rubble but very few and far between.
Spawned the excellent movie Grease 2 and the lead single from it, Cool Rider, was one of those aformentioned gems.
Some others:

Waiting For A Girl Like You - Foreigner
Heartlight - Neil Diamond
One Day In Your Life - Michael Jackson
Classic - Adrian Gurvitz
Missing You - Dan Fogelberg
Lady What's Your Name - Swannee
How Do You Get Your Kicks - Uncanny X Men

im assuming youve got a copy of one of the three definative compilations of all time in 'h'its huge 84'?
(the other two are 'ripper 76' and 'full boar 80')

actually id consider throwing 'up in lights 82' and the summer of 83 compilation in there too.

Nahhhhhhh 1987 is the worst by a long way

1987, the year of U2's only decent album. Some great Guns and Roses and Bon Jovi stuff, George Harrison's excellent return to the top of the charts, Cloud Nine, Some great stuff locally here in Australia, it was not too bad really, depends what you like.

Each year of the 80's had some absolute crap but there were a few great songs in each year, not enough either way to make one year significantly worse than the next one.

My fave years are 80, 80, 88, 89

Unfortunately my brothers and sisters have nicked most of my 80s compilation tapes.

But am now rebuilding my collection by hitting the second hand stores with a vengeance...

1983: The Hot One's
H'its Huge '84
No.1 Best Male Singer '84-85
Heaps of Hits '85
1985...Comes Alive
Jump 'n' Jive (1985)
1986 Way to Go
H'its Awesome '86
Smash Hits '87
1987 - Let's Party
Hits of '89 Vol.1-3

Close, but not quite.
87 was a crud year personally but there were enough tidy songs during the year to enable it to scrape past 82.
Having said that though there were some absolutely abysmal tracks around in 87:

Let's Wait Awhile - Janet Jackson
Walk The Dinosaur - Was Not Was
Slice Of Heaven - Dave Dobbyn
Touch Of Paradise - Fart arse
With Or Without You - u2
Locomotion - Kylie Minogue

No. I believe you are referring to either Rocktrip ' 82 or a siilar named LP.
The Hitwave I was referring to was issued in winter of 1978. The track list was:

1.
Dreadlock Holiday 10cc
Grease Frankie Valli
Sultans Of Swing - Dire Straits
Rasputin Boney M
Words Are Not Enough Jon English
Music Is My Life Marcia Hines
Hey Lord, Don't Ask Me Questions - Graham Parker & Rumour
Dr Bop - The Studs
If I Can't Have You - Yvonne Elliman

2
Rivers Of Babylon - Boney M
Warm Ride - Graham Bonnet
Substitute - Clout
I Need A Lover - John Cougar
Magnet & Steel - Walter Egan
Follow You Follow Me - Genesis
Love Is Its Own Reward - Steve Kipner
Rosalie - Thin Lizzie
Love Is Like Oxygen - Sweet

Vehemently disagree with you on this one MM.

You're right that each year of the 80s did have some absolute crap - but some were far worse than others. 1982, 1987, 1983 and 1981 stand out as the worst by a long way, while at the other end of the scale, 1988 was by far and away the best. 1985, 1984 and 1980 were all extremely good whilst 1986 and 1989 were sort of ' nondescript ' , although there were a couple of standout tracks in 89 ( Clive Young's ' Something Special ' , Dragon,' Young Years ' )
I struggle to name a bad track from ' 88 though - Bobby McFerrin's painful ' Don't Worry, Be Happy ' and Edie Brickell's ' What I Am " would be a bout it

Got this one on green vinyl, classic. :thumbsu:

I've also got the other one, was a double album but I can't remember the name just now. Other songs were Screaming Jets - Johnny Warman, Hold On Tight - ELO, Harden My Heart - Quarterflash.

I always rate 1979 as one of the best in music.

Some brilliant albums came out in 79 as well as plenty of quality songs.

My Sharona
Message in a bottle
I will survive
Bright eyes
Video killed th radio star
I dont like mondays
Another brick in the wall
Tragedy
Heartache tonight
Heart of glass
What a fool believes
A message to you rudy
Accidents will happen
Bat outta hell
Boys dont cry
Brightside of the road
Computer games
Cool for cats
Crazy little thing called love
Dont bring me down
Everybodys happy nowadays
Gangsters
Girls talk
Highway to hell
I want you to want me
I was made for lovin you
Is she really going out with him
Let's Go
London Calling
Making plans for nigel
Olivers Army
One Step beyond
Parisenne Walkways
Rappers delight
Roxanne
Smash it up
Sultans of Swing
Eton Rifles
Transmission

So for mine its some of the best songs from some of the best artists around.

It was a signifigant year as it was very much a year where there was a changing of musical style all around the world.
