Imagine if in 1982 when South Melbourne moved to Sydney, the VFL, SANFL, WAFL, four teams from the VFA and two expansion teams create a whole new league - the AFL. Over the next few weeks I will reveal the 3 divisions and State of Origin teams. This is set in 1983 so get hyped for some retro designs. I'll kick it off with some Origin designs once I've finished the 4th one.
I was inspired for this by TheFreightTrain's AFL '99 portfolio, so um, thanks for that.

Oh, yeah forgot to give you credit for inspiration.

Hahaha nah dude it's all good, actually wish I had this idea myself! Love the concept dude, can't wait to see it all. :)

Well I lied. Here are the Origin teams. In order to practice my tracing and get accustomed to the template I made these. The 4 State Of Origin teams are Victoria, Western Australia, South Australia. The teams wear the AFL logo and are sponsored by Fosters, who are the State of Origin sponsors. I gave them all the shield logos so the league would be consistent. So here are the logos and jumpers. (I'm terrible with the pen tool, but since these logos were originally made at 1000 x 1000px so I did make the things inside the logos.) Also thanks Dylan8 for the template I'm using. I just added the floppy collar.

South Australia: In reality they were wearing this monstrosity but in the alternate reality they never ditched this.

Tasmania: In reality they re-introduced this design in 1982. In this alternate reality they always wore this jumper.

Victoria: What else would we wear? :hearts::hearts::hearts:
upload_2016-11-14_21-33-54.png
Western Australia: I decided to keep the continuity from reality so WA wear a sash

Other alternative histories for inspiration / other people's enjoyment:

craegus (the original) – https://www.bigfooty.com/forum/threads/alternate-history-afl-by-craegus.710187/

The original and still the best, or at least the one that causes others to be inspired to imitate it (even though they could never equal or better the innovation of it).

Oops, I was just one expansion team away from finishing that, and I know I had completed one of the teams uniforms. But I cannot remember why I never completed the second uniform and posted them (possibly because I was not happy with the design and something else then took precedence). I guess I will have to get on to that as we cannot leave it unfinished.

So I guess what I'm saying is finish it before you post it :)

Or at least be as close as you can. There can be some overlap between posting and designing.

I knew I didn't need to say that as you would do it yourself :)

Tbh I think your designs in the anniversary version are better but the stories in the original are very indepth. Obviously we're comparing 2010 and 2015 templates so it's all relative

Suggestion Fizz. I reckon South Aus and West Aus would look better rather than S. Australia and W. Australia, firstly to differentiate them better (does anyone ever call them the latter anyway?) and also gets away from the national name.

The template is good though and I like the old-school logos.

Cheers Gibbsy. I couldn't actually fit the full names for those states. The base shape was from a vector Mero sent me, but everything inside was made by me. I must admit tracing everything inside was quite rewarding and fun.

So Brisbane and Sydney get teams in this league, but don't have origin sides? #BringbacktheAllies
I was tempted to do those teams individually, but I decided against it. And I'm not doing the Allies because that was a 90's thing.

West Perth
In 1982 West Perth were still known as the Cardinals, but used the Falcon logo they use today. The WAFL had standardized shield logos back then too, but I think the VFL's were better. West Perth play in the first division thanks to their 3rd place finish and preliminary final loss in the 1982 WAFL season.

The Cardinals were sponsored by Big Rock Toyota, but as this was a national league, it made more sense to sponsor the whole company - Toyota. After all, how many Victorians or South Australians going to go to that specific shop?

UPDATE: My laptop's hard drive has crashed and it will be wiped and I'll get it back in 2 days. Thankfully I have these designs saved to my SD Card so they are still available. The only issue I have is that I can't work on them in that time. It's a shame really, as I had traced the Norwood logo quite well only for it to be deleted. I might be able to get some work in that time, but don't count on it. Thanks.

To be fair it took 5 minutes to search "alternate history site:bigfooty.com" and link them all.
My point still stands.

Are you gonna be continuing this Fizzler ?
Yes, I've just had my computer reset and I can't put fonts on it (including Marbold for the logos.) I should have a new one in the next two days.
