I found it dificult to choose an All-Australian for the decade. I was too young to watch all of the decade, but I do own videos such as the Decade that Delivered and I know my share of footy history. I want to see what people come uip with. Here's mine:
B Wanganeen Silvagni Roos
HB McKenna Jakovich Smart
C Crawford Williams Matera
HF Ablett Carey Hird
F Dunstall Lockett Jarman
R Rehn Harvey Buckley
Int Salmon Bradley Hocking Long

Chris Grant deserves a spot atleast on the bench, dominated at both CHB and CHF.
Scott Wynd would have to go close to getting a ruck position also.

Replace Hocking with Voss, and the team looks about right.

Only other players who probably have good cause to be there might be Libba or Matera

Matera is already there. I thought Buddha Hockign was probably better in the particular decade. Voss got injured out for one of the years, but won a Brownlow and was All-Australian twice (96 & 99). Hcoking was AA 4 times, He came 3rd in the Brownlow in 1991, 1993, 1994, 1995 and 6th in 1996. Voss makes the team of the next decade. Libba didn't do much apart from 1990. Could anhyone tell me whether his Brownlow that year was a surprise? Was he a favourite?

I only remember football since 1995, but Paul Kelly would go close wouldn't he? What about Wynd or Stynes in ruck?

I was tossing up between Wynd, Stynes, Rehn and Salmon for ruck. I didn't see Wynd and Stynes as much because they retired earlier than Rehn and Salmon.

I started watching in 95, so I don't have a full understanding of the 90's as a decade, but this is what I would choose based on what I've seen and read. I didn't include Hird, Buckley and Voss because they were in my 2000's team of the decade. All three would warrant selection this decade but instead of giving them a selection in both decades I would rather 3 other players for the 90's team.

Team of the Decade 1990-1999:
B: Paul Roos; Stephen Silvagni; Gavin Wanganeen
HB: Guy McKenna; Glen Jakovich; Ben Hart
C: Peter Matera; Greg Williams; Craig Bradley
HF: Gary Ablett Snr; Wayne Carey (c); Chris Grant
F: Paul Kelly (vc); Tony Lockett; Darren Jarman
R: Shaun Rehn; Robert Harvey; Garry Hocking
I/C: Paul Salmon; Shane Crawford; Anthony Koutoufidies; Jason Dunstall
EMG: Stephen Kernahan; Dean Kemp; Andrew McKay
Coach: Mick Malthouse

4 WCE players, yet only 1 North player?

Considering they had very similar success' in that time.

Archer should be in that side, McKernan, even for his few years in the mid 90's was the best player in the competition.

Rhen and Salmon didn't get close to that in this period.

If they are good enough to be selected in both decades, then they should be selected IMO.

Good effort...
If there's no minimum on amount of years played within the 90s (within reason of course) you could mount a serious case for including Daicos in the team. 97 goals in 1990, 75 in 1991, 52 in 1992, 11 in 1993. Not bad for a forward pocket.. very good squad, obviously tough to crack.
I would pick Jim Stynes as backup ruckman to Salmon, and not pick Rehn at all. Garry Hocking to the bench, Kouta or Crawford out for Daicos and Paul Kelly to rover.

Would like to see Gavin Brown in the mix there but hard to say where, though I definitely rate him higher than Dean Kemp & Andrew McKay who you've listed as emergencies. But that's my biased personal opinion towards one of my all time favourite players.

Where is Jim Stynes?

Brownlow medallist, 4 time best and Fairest winner, revolutionized the ruck position.

Where is Gary Lyon?

Drop Crawford, Kelly, Hocking, Grant, Bradley or Hart to put him in.

Kernahan >>> Grant >>> Lyon imo... there's just an abundance of key forwards that he's just not quite good enough to make the team.

There's not all that much love for Andrew McLeod... I personally think he was much better in the 90s than in the 00s. He played more contested football, more through the midfield, and of course won the Norm Smith in '97 and '98.

probs didnt play long enough in the decade for an observer to instantly link McLeod with the 90s, liek they do with the 2000s. McKenna springs to midn faster.

Dean Kemp should most definitely have got a spot.

He wouldn't just go close, he would shit all over Michael Long (pardon the french), and where is Guy McKenna?

Anthony Stevens or Wayne Schwass would get a gig over Long.

Roos Silvagni Archer
Mcleod Jackovich McKenna
Matera Williams Koutafides
Hird Carey Jarman
Ablett Dunstall Daicos

Stynes Harvey Kelly

McKernan, Hocking, Voss, Buckley

There's a team of blokes actually playing in their proper positions.

I chose Dunstall ahead of Lockett as he was more productive throughout the 90's (4.85 gpm to 4.74 gpm), a far better team player and a far, far better footballer when he didn't have the ball in his hands.
