For those too young to remember 1990 Collingwood Premiership side, take a look at 1990 Final Story (Parts 1 and 2). It is compelling viewing for the Collingwood army - the footage shown is very visual and captures moments of the game and when it was won. Very well made documentary, everyone who spoke were all brutally honest, maybe too honest but to see champions open up about the battles they faced during that year was captivating.

After watching it, I get the feeling 1990 was all about getting some silverware for the Collingwood supporters, much like 2017 Richmond, the effect from the premiership will be forever in the minds of the people who were there to witness it.

Go to You Tube to see it, it's worth a look for people who need to be able to get a footy fix over the bye weekend.

Thanks for that I will check it out tonight.

Weird thing for me is I have a greater affinity to the 1990 team than the 2010 and I wasn't even at the game. I did celebrate at Vicky Park after it. :)
I have heard so many wonderful stories about that team.

That's fair enough Dave.

Did you go to the game in 2010?

I was there with my 6 year old son (his very first live game ( couldn't resist the temptation of taking him ) and my sister.

Amazing scenes, as much tears as there was laughter.

And a vast, vast sense of relief after 30+ years of tribulations.

I was born a few days after the 1990 grand final, My mother said the stress and excitement of the day put her into labour. They immigrated here in the early-mid 1980s and decided they'd barrack for the pies after seeing the movie "the club" when trying to absorb as much Aussie culture as possible before moving.

When they got here everybody gave them stick for becoming Pies supporters so the '90 grand final was pretty special for them. Needless to say I had no choice but to become a pies supporter, it was either that or be put up for adoption:p. This thread has helped me decide what I'm doing this weekend, dusting off the 1990 dvd and watching it with the old man. Dad can't remember a lot of things, but he can rattle off the 1990 grand final line up like nobodies business :D

Floreat Pica!

Can neither confirm nor deny  but I will admit I was certainly in the vicinity of Hoddle St, Johnson St and Vic Park on that momentous evening ;):D. It was unbelievable, I have never seen anything like it with that whole area around VP going off. It was joyous.

Anyone who has studied history will have come across stories of besieged towns that have been liberated and the dichotomy of delirious joy and utter exhausted relief that flows from the besieged.

Such was that time for many of us 'oldies' - many of us had suffered through the interminable "Colliwobble' bullshit for 30+ years.

That relief was expressed in as many different ways as there were sufferers - but each expression was - at it's heart an expression of joy and renewed hope for the club we all held dear.

Exactly this.....I walked from Clifton Hill station straight through the middle of Punt Road because it was closed to Pies supporters celebrating.

As a 16 year old boy that night will stay with me forever.

Just finished watching that with my two boys......have no shame in saying I shed a tear or two.

Gubby describing what Lethal did at half time with Browny in the race against Daniher was inspirational.

Seeing Pants again brought me to tears.
What a player.

Kelly, Banks, Daicos, Brown, Wright......etc

I f kn love that team.

In the words of BringouttheGimp.

ONE OF THE GREATS.

P.S Chrispiesssss do yourself a favour and watch this.

It's interesting that many of that team went on to significant off-field lives
Off the top of my head...
  • Christian - MRP
  • Kelly - player agent guru
  • Wright - built the Hawthorn list
  • Monkey - Hawthorn asst coach
  • Shaw - media
  • Daics - media
  • McGuane - media
  • Crosisca - anti drugs campaigner
  • Browny - asst coach (North?)

Lethal was a genius.....don’t let anyone tell you the coach isn’t important to a teams success.

Kudos to Sheedy in that documentary also....all class.

I'd say all premiership coaches have some level of genius about them. Some are man-managers (Lethal, MM, Worsfold) others are tacticians (Bomber, Blighty), some are motivators (Choco) and others are all of the above - Jeans, Clarko, Horse. Hopefully Bucks can join that club

Starcevich coaches the Brisbane Lions women's team.

And a few blokes who were unlucky for Selection that day...
Alan Richardson: Saints Coach
