1-Is Ben match fit..( i think yes..he trains very hard) but any more info would be appreciated..

2-if the AFL does not approve the Rookie listing for Pollack..can Richmond still get him..?

It would be crap if Tigers got his hopes up again and knew there was a good chance we would not get him..

That would be a cruel blow.

Question 1 - No way he is match fit. He is very fit, but unless you play a couple games there's no way any player is match fit.

Question 2 - Yes we could still get him with pick 6 that we have, however we have stated publicly that this will be used on a young player

Hopefully he shows some form in the NAB cup so he can come straight into the side.

1-Nup I'd say he'd be in the same place he was for the return game vs Sydney and we know what happened in the end there.

2-If the AFL dont approve Polak it's pretty unlikely we will get him.

But 3- I'd say it's the media getting his hopes up far more than Richmond. We haven't even said that we want him.

So I guess there is no way of knowing how the AFL are thinking on this.
Jeff Kennet liked the idea..what sway does he have.

Will the AFL approve this and if not why not?

His return game against Sydney was a 38 possesion blinder. I would say he was match fit that day!

He only broke down a couple of months later after West Coast had flogged him without many rotations due to other injuries in their side for a few weeks. The same way they were with an injured Judd.

Since it was the AFL's idea, then my guess is yes they will approve this.

From what I read into this its sounds like a done deal.

Unless I'm wrong - and that's a common occurance.

Yes he was out for months..**** I couldnt believe his peformance that day ..a couple of knockers were telling me he would fold due to being out too long....I loved the way he let his footy do the talking.

I just hope it is a done deal..Essendon could grab him ..it is a reality. I hope Sheedy have already considered this.

Can Tigers sign him on the side ( outside the actual psd process?). I read something about a contract already being drawn up between him and the others at the Punt road meeting 2 days ago.

I just realised, our first preseason game is at none other than Subiaco. Even though we're playing Freo and not WC, could still be big if we get him and he plays.

are you a tiger now?:p

I wonder if the sponsorship will be dependent on the AFL approving the Polak rookie-listing...

That would be an interesting thing to add to the submission!

Geez it's cold here!

My understanding is been that all this has been pushed by the AFL, so why wouldnt they approve it! :thumbsu:

1 - He'll be fit. The guy has been in the system for years and has many, many preseasons behind him. Also if he joins us now, he'll get most of the preseason anyway.

People talk a lot about his hamstrings because they blew up in 2007 when he had half the season off. From my experience (not medical training but a fair bit of footy), at Ben's age, the biggest part of preseason is not aerobic fitness but just generally getting your body ready to play. That means weeks and weeks of ball drills, picking the ball off the deck at pace, warming up, cooling off a bit, warming up etc. Your back and hammys have to get used to handling it. Its pretty hard to simulate doing that in a drug rehab centre which is what he was doing for half of 2007. Hence when he came back then, his body wasn't really ready.

2 - If the Polak thing doesn't get approved on Monday, we'll still take him. I'm just a bit worried that another club might change there mind over the weekend and take him instead.

Didnt he rip his hamstring that night.

Sure he came back as a superstar still but he wasnt match fit.

1. no way but he will be very soon. he's still agile and strong and fit but he'll need a feel of the game before playing afl standards again, i dont think that will take him long.

2. I keep wondering whether the club's just saying we wont pick him if we dont get the extra pick, maybe we aim to but we want the extra pick for a rookie and we think the AFL will give it to us because, well, everyone wants to see cuz come back dont they? could we be bluffing?
i could just be being optimistic cuz i really want cousins and if my theory's correct, we'll get him either way

he tore his hammy vs Port in one of the finals- he was fine for the swans return game- he got 1 vote and 38 posessions. His efficiency was a little rusty, but gee he could find it easy enough.
For one of the posters who mentioned it, the wce didnt grind him down- he was well rotated with what we had. Remember we even had Mark LeCras even running through the middle. Judd demanded to play on, after doctors said it wasnt going to heal unless his season was cut short and sit out the rest of the season. It was Judds call, this has been well documented, Blues fans irritate me about this point.
Anyway, he will go alright Benny- and if your youtubing clips, check out the one with him and kerr from a centre clearance (type cousins and kerr in search), the crows splitting the two is awesome as mentioned also. I also highly reccomend, for a balanced view, you search for the clip 'Swallows me whole, ben cousins' and have a look at the stills etc, it is a fantastic vid and the song is very relevant. Enjoy :)

Yes it was the 1/4 finals against Port Adelaide..he played a huge part in almost singlehandedly muscling that game to the lead..he went down with the tear at about 3/4 time..after that Port overtook and won it.

It was brillaint.

many people are thinking that now. we have all the cards, the AFL want cousins to play we come out saying were taking a kid over cousins. they then have to allow us to put polak on the rookie list
