Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

I think we've got a nice little cadre of players who are fortunate that the last draft was allegedly shithouse.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Last year's draft and, IMHO, the year before's rookie draft.

If there was another Howlett or Crameri type, who was looking good for an upgrade, we would've done it without hesitation.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Harsh, Ricky never came on to be the player we hoped he would, and he's certainly a flawed player, but he's got a couple things going for him, not least of which is his left foot. Far from the worst player on an AFL list.

I standby though that in a supposed strong draft this year, it is no coincidence that NLM, Slattery and Dyson are out of contract.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

He has to be first out the door, even before NLM/McVeigh/Slattery, surely.
Not necessarily.
Ideally I'd like us going into 2013 with only one of that group + Prismall.
That one probably being NLM, because he offers a bit of flexibility... but that has to be based on form in 2012, rather than last year or prior.

Which would then make our list changes - from long range - 4 of those 5, plus prolly Fletch & Gumby; for 6 all up. (And assorted rookies).

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Would rather Dyson than Slattery tbh

Agree - I was lambasted early last year when I posed the question of would Ricky become Essendon's worst 100 game player of our lifetime (later qualified to the last 25years).....if Slattery makes it to 100 then the question is void. :D

Agreed - this is exactly what I'd like to see.....only disclaimer is that if Gumby played 15 or so games (even if half of them ar vfl) and still showed he has the goods by producing decent late season form, then I'd give him another 1 year to have a last crack.....that's a big IF though.

Yah. The new batch looks more promising anyway. Only 1 recycle and 1 project.

And yes, if we have to retain someone from that group, let it be NLM. At least he can throw his weight around.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

I like ricky, his skills stood out like a sore thumb last weekend. Having said that he should definately be delisted at the end of the year along with Slattery, Gumbleton & NLM (who I really like as well). These guys have had their chance and its time for some new blood.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Was probably our best user of the ball over the weekend. :o

I don't think he's that lucky to be on a list. All last season we were talking about his decent form in the VFL, and how the reason he wasn't playing must be because he signed for GWS.

And most agreed that he'd be a decent pickup for them.

When he did come into our team last year he did his job 'ok', so it's not like he's Richmond level depth.

I'd rather keep him than Slattery or NLM. He's a disciplined player with a good, long kick. Slattery isn't half as good a kick, and NLM is undisciplined.

However it seems the coaches are going to give Hibberd, Hardingham and Baugley their go down back, so Dyson and Slattery are the ones most likely to go.

(I don't think Gumby and Prismall are under as much chance of being delisted as many of you people do, unless their bodies fail them)

Odds would say that Gumbleton has a good chance... of his body failing him. As unpleasant as it is to think about. I suspect he would retire if he has any further setbacks.

Prismall's got more coupons left, but his issues are very much genetic.

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Dyson,Slattery.NLM and Davey their last year in the Red n Black!.....:thumbsu:

Re: #2: Ricky Dyson - Luckiest player in the AFL?

Ricky's Best position is Half forward/wing and has been pigeon holed half back/ back pocket.
Dyson is a better option than Jetta and Davey up forward! Would be a good defensive forward option, and he would hit the scoreboard regularly.
