Sam Reid

Sam Reid’s outstanding athleticism and strong contested grab make him a genuine threat inside 50. The 2012 premiership forward showed exactly that when he booted six goals in the Sydney Swans’ clash with Collingwood in Mark Grook at the SCG to win the 2019 Goodes-O’Loughlin Medal. The 2009 draftee can also play as a loose man in defence or pinch-hit in the ruck. Reid has had very little luck on the injury front in his time in red and white, but he didn’t miss an AFL match in 2019. He’s played 143 career games at the top level for a return of 154 goals.

To clarify, what Brown said was Reid is overpaid at present as key forwards are paid on potential. As many would agree, Reid is a long term investment. The jury is still out.

Grundy was called a spud for much of his early years. Ted Richards was never going to make it back after the rib injury. Leo Barry was a write-off to many fans. Jesse White was praised to the heavens for just showing up. Fans are fickle, opinionated and blinkered....and that's just me.

white was bagged most of the time, most people wet their pants when he did something athletic, but he was just one of those players that could not perform consistently, and would not be the one to drag the team out of a hole.

now that i mention it, there are quite a few similarities with Reid, only white was a fair bit older.

hope Reid doesnt continue on the same path

I'll reserve my judgement until he has played in the one position for a season or more. He was a promising forward in 11 and 12. Injury ruined 13 for him and 14 who knows what his role was meant to be.

I did tell everyone in 2011 that he would win us a premiership, don't think I can claim 2012 although he did kick a goal and take a very important mark with a couple of minutes to go.

Leo is still doing circles trying to work out what to do with the ball. :)

Seriously, Grundy, Richards and Barry all started as forwards before settling down in the backs. Thought it should be mentioned.

I think all the Reid critics should have another look at the Game against Essendon and see the work that Reid did. His second and third efforts, turnovers created were a huge part of the reason we got up.
Haven't you realised, this board doesn't value players unless they are in the top 5 in the AFL in their position. This board doesn't allow for any mistakes. Just because he's on a good salary, people want him to be an elite player. He's just a good player, but that's not enough for some.

His ability to get no where near any contest in a wet game is exceptional

Could be the swans hide and seek champion

Reids last decent game was against Carlton last year

He has been chopped around, moved around and mis used it is not all his fault. But give the kid a chance to get his confidence in the ressies

No, Reid's last standout game was against Carlton. His last decent game was last week.

If that is decent then this side is not a contender

He was dismal for 90 per cent

Did nothing up forward

Had some ok moments in defence where he belonged but still lost body on his opponent, outworked by cooney and benefited from the swans dominance

Yes he occasionally competes in a contest but thats it, did he even catch Goodes for possies?

Kid has potential, but is not delivering imo

Really unfair on the last quarter performance.

Had a few contests where despite being outnumbered kept the ball in while the cavalry came. I thought he was pretty clean off the ground too late.

Cooney got him one on one once when a good kick to the advantage side came in - most defenders one on one would be in trouble with a kick like that. For context remember Smith to Tippett in the last quarter when it was kicked to the advantage side and despite being mauled, because of the kick, Tippett was able to mark and eventually goal after the blood rule thingy with Ted.

That is the art of delivery which we lack on so many occasions. I can't burn him on that. Reid was excellent in the last quarter. As for the first three quarters you can burn 3/4's of the team even Parker who got hands on it but butchered the thing so often.

I did say he was ok in the last, but its just a personal view that he does stuff all but gets overrated on here

A couple of ok efforts in the last when the tide had turned wowie

Bit of a Bambi effect when it comes to Reid.

Given he showed some okish signs late as a defender lets drop him for a few weeks to develop there

At least just put him there full time that is a start.

Look i hope he comes out smashes port and i look stupid, but it wont happen, yet others can perform and dont get picked,.staggering
