what do you all think of this team for 2003!!!!!!!

b) WHELAN NICHOLSON BROWN
hb) BIZZELL ELLIS WALSH
c) ARMSTRONG YZE HEFFERNAN
hf) BRUCE JOLLY ROBBO
f) VARDY NEITZ GREEN

r) WHITE JOHNSTONE POWELL

INT) LEONCELLI BROADBRIDGE
WARD MCDONALD

Nice to see you thinking about our team for next year. I'll do one, as a team that I would like to see start the 2003 season.

FB - Wheatley - Lamb - Walsh

HB - Whelan - Bizzell - Brown

C - Yze - Powell - Heffernan

HF - Green - Molan - Robertson

FF - Vardy - Neitz - Armstrong

R - White - Bruce - Johnstone

Int - Jolly - Godfrey - Broadbridge - Ward

I might have forgotten a player or two, but it's only the early going. I'll do a better one much later in the lead up to 2003.

GOOD THINKING ABOUT MOLAN I REALLY HOPE HE GETS OVER INJURY AS HE WOULD BE AN EXCELLENT CHF

WHEN DO BIG NICHO AND ELLIS GET BACK

WHEN DO BIG NICHO AND ELLIS GET BACK

From what I understand, Nicho will be back mid year, while Ellis will be back much later on in the year.

With Nicho and Ellis not expected back until min and late season respectively, here's my team:
FB: Whelan, Lamb, Walsh
HB: Wheatley, Bizzell, Brown
C: Johnstone, Leoncelli, Heffernan
HF: Bruce, ****, Robbo
FF: Vardy, Neitz, Green
R: White, Powell, Yze
INT: Jolly, Armstrong, Ward, J. McDonald

**** = one of Miller/Molan/Wheatley/Breese depending on who impresses over the pre-season. (If it was Wheatley then bring in Broady for the HBF)

ok

I was about to say 'where's woewodin?'. :s

but i must say, the team does look quite good... if they can pull together, they'll be right. should be a good yr :)

Yep, thats about the best team I can come up with too.
Though I'd squeeze Ward into the starting 18 somehow. Perhaps Chelli could start on the bench, and we could reshuffle the midfield. Ward is a very underrated player. Tell you what though, Heffernan isn't such a bad inclusion. I think he'll star on the wing, that will enable us to keep ooze on the ball! :)

I like the way you think Somefella. I am also very excited about the inclusion of Heffernan to the side, he will add ALOT!

Leoncelli on the bench would be the best way to go too, as he seemed to spend alot of time on there in the 2nd half of the season. He is getting on in age, so maybe bringing through a youngster or two would be better.

Here's mine then

B: Whelan,Lamb,Wheatley

HB: Walsh,Bizzell,Brown

C: Heffernan,Bruce,Johnstone

HF: Armstrong,Robertson,Powell

F: Vardy,Neitz,Green

Fol: White,Yze,Ward

I/C: Jolly,Chell,Broady,Godders

EMG: Jamar,J.Mac,Willams

Obviously Nicho would slot back into Full Back once Fit, allowing Lamb to move to CHB(Which I reckon is his best spot) & Freeing up Biz to attack from HB or even chip in at CHF.

Robbo,Jol,Wheatley & Bruce could all be rotated through CHF again next year (Worked a treat last season, but we did miss The Ox's hitouts).

I really like the idea of Bruce in the middle! That centreline looks sensational, and it doesn't even have Yze in it!

Not sure aobut the rotation of CHF, as I reckon we might try the young guys there pre-season, but it might be the way to go if the rookies are not ready to go.

Also - Lamb to CHB with Nicho at Full back is another good idea. It means Biz can take a third stringer, which allows him to attack alot more as he has less responsibilities with opponents. He is focal point down there across half back.

i dont see the point of rotating the CHF... if we can find someone (or turn someone into) a goos strong CHF, then i think that'd be the best thing to do. with rotation... i dunno, i just dont think it'd work too well...

Don't know enough about Molan to say he deserves first crack. Robbo & Wheats are our best bet & I think match-ups will be a factor.

It killed Jakovich, when we rotated Robbo,Brucey & Wheatley thru CHF, he was buggered after half time!

Time will tell, but that spot is definitely up for grabs.

The last part - totally agree, and it's time someone stood up and took it! We have the talls there, it's just up to someone to take it!

Wrong board, can't you read very well?
That team doesn't install any fear in me anyway.

At full strength:

B: Whelan Nicholson Ellis
HB: Bizzell Lamb Ward
C: Heffernan Yze Brown
HF: Green Wheatley Bruce
FF: Vardy Neitz Armstrong
R: White Powell Johnstone
Int: Jolly, Robertson, Walsh, Thompson
Em: Leoncelli, J McDonald, Broadbridge

I think this side can match it with any team in the league.

LOL. you have got plenty of dead wood on your list there.

BTW, Cameron Cloke is no good...he'll probably just scrape into the Williamstown 2nds side.

B: Whelan Nicholson Ellis
HB: Bizzell Ward Walsh
C: Heffernan Yze Johnstone
HF: Green **** Wheatly
FF: Vardy Neitz Bruce
R: White Powell Brown
Int: Jolly, Robertson, Lamb, Armstrong

lamby29, i guess mines pretty similar to yours, but thats how i see it beeing... i still dunno who we could put at CHF. at the moment, you're right, Wheatly would probs be best for the job, but i dont want to put him there, coz we could find some one better...

should be a good yr when we get our players back!

Wheatley.

Whilst I used to think the same thing, I had a discussion at the footy one day with BT about it, and we both ended up coming to the agreement that he is a much better half back flanker. He is not tall or strong enough to hold down CHF, but he could prove us wrong.

However, he is great across half back, and that's probably where he shall stay.

Wheat's did some great stuff at CHF, just watch the Lions game again if you need a reminder. However he looked totally lost on other occasions (See the Hawthorn game in R16:rolleyes: )

We missed his drive off the back flank too, we looked at our most dangerous when he was there (see the 1st Eagles game at Optus!).

Robbo,Jolly & Bruce are probably better candidates. Maybe even Lamb if we got enough players back to release him from defence.
