I still can't see where he is too slow, maybe not fit enough. Do we have any difinitive evidence that he is slow.
Because of his build he may appear to be slow - alot of players can be deceptive in their running style/Physique.
Rutten is passable in terms of straight-line speed, but anyone watching him know he has an atrocious turning circle. This would be a major problem if he played as a key defender.

That being the case, he has a problem. If Hentschell can't bulk up due to his back problems??? his position would appear to the same one Bock is chasing - and I would favour Hentschell at this point.
Not disagreeing with you - I have never been convinced by all the Bock propoganda since he was upgraded from our rookie list. Hope I'm proved wrong though! Hentschel does look a better prospect.

Now that I can agree with.

The worst Crows player for turning circle is without doubt Ricciuto, and he has managed to win a Brownlow.
So all is not lost for Rutten yet.

Thanks Kane and Wayne,

What this conversation (re: Biglands and Rutten) has shown us is that we stuffed up by not adding Parker to the Senior list.

Parker has the height, speed and defenders mind set to be a viable option to our biggest problem area - FB/CHB.

We needed to get players who could assist in problem areas to help us win finals in 2004. I'd say by keeping Parker on the rookie list we havent quite done that. How is Aiden training - has he but on any muscle?

Good observation WsW.

He hasnt got the tightest turning circle but he does have a stopdead sidestep and stiffarm fend to help him out.

Ruttens yet to show me that.

Yep the Roo always had that "don't argue with me" persona about him maybe young Rutten could learn from him.

As for Rhett Biglands if only his feet could do what his brain is telling them the guy would be a champion.

I've heard that turning circle and straight line speed can be vastly improved by the use of the patented "Marsh head leaning" technique.

I wouldnt want to employ that method.

My main concern is that it may lead to other Marshisims.

I'm not talking about putting liquid into chalk, I'm refering to the the patented "Ben Marsh: How to drop simple marks in finals" technique.

I've got no desire to see any of our players **** up like that again!

It still ****s me. Especially since I saw him do the exact same thing in last years SANFL finals against Centrals. Granted it benefited my team...but the fact that he hadnt learned really infuriated me!

Just think though. If Ben Marsh plays for Richmond when we play them, he'll finally be of some value to the Crows!! :D

That sort of thinking worries me.

I'm sure similar things were said about Anthony Ingerson when he joined Melbourne.

However, I seem to remember Ingo kicking goals against us at FP one day when we lost to Melbourne. These were goals he couldnt kick in a fit with us. I may be being overly cautious, but Im not prepared to bag Tiger Ben just yet..I'll wait till we beat em first.:D

Yeah, I was thinking of the D Gallagher theory too. AFC should pay Richmond Marsh's match fees if he plays against the Crows! ;) :D
