Here's my honest assessment of our squad for the upcoming season.
Steven Armstrong - Expect big things from Arma in 2004. He has shown glimpses, but now he is ready to be a permanent onballer for us.
Daniel Bell - Will more than likely play somewhere between 5-15 games. Appears to have the goods, but is unproven at senior level.
Clint Bizzell - Will still be our best defender, but don't expect any improvement from last season, unless the whole side performs better.
Troy Broadbridge - Last chance to prove himself at Melb. I highly doubt he will be at the club in 05.
Nathan D. Brown - Is one of Daniher's favourites. I don't rate him too highly, as he turns over the ball to much and is too unaccountable for a defender.
Cameron Bruce - This will be the year that Bruce finds a role he is idealy suited to. IMO he should play in the midfield as much as possible.
Joel Campbell - Don't expect any senior games from Campbell. He will develop at Sandy for a season.
Nathan Carroll - Make or break year for Carroll. He is fighting for the FB spot with Lamb and Nicholson. IMO only two will remain at the club by 05. Carroll is my favourite out of the 3, but lacks height. Sadly, I think he may be the one to go.
Dale Carson - Further development at Sandy appears evident.
Aaron Davey - A bit of a surprise as he may not play a game all year or he might play 15-18 games. I expect the latter if he performs well in Wizard Cup.
Ryan Ferguson - Has a lot of ability, lacks a body. IMO Fergy will struggle in 04 as he hasn't bulked up.
Simon Godfrey - Will improve even more. One of my favourites at Melbourne due to his persistance and work ethic. Just needs to work on footy skills.
Adam Fisher - Looks a good prospect. Don't expect him to play many games, if any due to our current group of onballers.
Brad Green - Has to prove himself as a consistant forward. I do not see a future for Green in the midfield as he is too soft and slow.
Chris Heffernan - Will perform a lot better in 04, mainly due to having settled into the club and the opportunity to play a more attacking role.
Ben Holland - Could be a great pickup, a handy pickup or a dud pickup. IMO he will be the first option because he can be used to help us out in defence when we play bigger sides like Brisbane,Richmond and Collingwood, or up forward against weaker sides. I don't think he will play CHF as that will belong to Miller or Smith.
Cameron Hunter - I don't expect him to play much this year. Needs to work on decision making skills and bulk up.
Mark Jamar - Will get limited opportunities unless one of White and Jolly gets injured.
Chris Johnson - Won't play in 04, unless our forwards get struck by injuries.
Travis Johnstone - Expect a huge season from Trapper. IMO he will be up with the best midfeilders in the league this season. If not, then he will be traded away while he's still of some market value.
Darren Jolly - IMO will continue to come on with leaps and bounds.
Chris Lamb - In the same boat as Carroll and Nicholson. Lamb is more an old fashioned type FB than the other two.
James McDonald - Will struggle to get a game in our midfield. Great work ethic, but not enough skills or speed.
Brock McLean - Will play 5-10 games in a season that will be looked back on as a learning curve.
Brad Miller - IMO will become one of the top 5 CHF's in the league. If not, then he might be better suited to CHB. Has been killing it in pre season so far.
Luke Molan - Will have to try and get back up the pecking order. This will be difficult as he wont be ready until the mid year break. Miller,Smith,Lamb,Carroll,Ferguson,Carson and Rivers are all ahead of him.
David Neitz - Expect another good year from the skipper. Could win Coleman for 2nd time if midfield is on song.
Alistair Nicholson - See Carroll and Lamb. Nicho's advantage is his height and experience over the other two. My least favourite, but I still don't have a problem with him at FB.
Paul Newman - Will take the VFL by storm, slotting straight into Lachy Oakley's position at Sandy.
Phil Read - Will be a handy pcikup, adding much needed grunt and experience into midfield/defence.
Guy Rigoni - Over the hill. Should have retired in 2003.
Jared Rivers - Could play around 10 games. From what I've seen at VFL level, I've liked, but when played at AFL level, he looked lost.
Russell Robertson - Expect another good season. Won't do as well due to the arrival of Miller at CHF.
Nick Smith - Needs to improve mobility. If that is done, I see him getting a game as our 3rd tall forward. Reminds me a lot of a young Stewart Loewe and Wayne Carey.
Colin Sylvia - Will play at least 15 games on a forward or onball position. My tip for the Rising Star award.
Scott Thompson - See Armstrong. A lot to like about Thommo, strength, ball winning ability, aggression, reads play exremely well and is a good user of the ball.
Peter Vardy - Last chance. I fear he won't get back to his 2002 form.
Peter Walsh - Should have been delisted. Enough said.
Daniel Ward - Will be one of our more consistant players. Good aggression abnd attacks the ball well.
Paul Wheatley - Last chance. Needs to find a position to play at.
Matthew Whelan - Want's to play midfield. I believe he's of best value on a back pocket. One of my favourite players. His strength is badly needed in defence.
Jeff White - Needs to re-establish himself as one of the premier ruckman in the AFL. His reputation was dented in 2003. Expect him to play up forward more often.
Luke Williams - How he's still on our list amazes me. Should be a Sandringham player all season in 04, barring injuries.
Adem Yze - An injury free season will see Ooze back to his best. At the peak of his career.
PREDICTED FINISH- 7th( although we could finish somewhere from 3rd to 12th IMO )

. This bloke can ruck, no doubt about that. He has good hands & knows to dish off to palyers more qualified to deliver the ball. He struggles to get back & help out the defence, as he rarely makes the contest. 3rd in line at this stage.
. Our big bush recruit, ha apparently has sticky hands. He could play seniors this season.
