I have compiled a list of players that will be available to the SAINTS at Selections # 9, 27, 59, 75 & 91. The players are ranked in order of perceived ability and the clubs list needs.
I would like to see us use at least 4 selections at the draft to fill our priorities – Midfielders x (speed/class) & Key Position Defenders (size/ability) & Ruckmen (size/quality).

I believe this is how most selectors go into each draft. They give the players a ranking and if the players are selected by other clubs ahead, the player is crossed off and the club then takes the next highest available player according to their ranking system.
In the long term we need another quality/sizable player who can hold down the full back position, possibly as importantly as we need midfielders in the short term!
- HUGHTON hasn’t got too many more seasons left.
- There are no guarantees on MAGUIRE’s (CHB) return.
- GILBERT is too lightly built for the FB role.
- WATTS is too slow for a FB.
- and Sam FISHER is far more suited to playing the 3rd tall.
- KOSI more suited to a forward role.
The big questions for the SAINTS recruiters are - do they believe they can pick up a quality Full Back at Selection 27 or later? This will allow them to use their best selections on midfielders. It is possibly worth the risk of hoping to pick up a Mitchell BROWN, James FRAWLEY, Mark AUSTIN, Tom COLLIER, Jarryd ALLEN, Alex SILVAGNI or a Paul COLBERT later in the draft.
There is some talk of an interest in Cameron CLOKE; I gather we would be looking at CLOKE to play a key defensive role (doubtful quick fix). We would expect to get CLOKE as a late draft selection or pre season pick up – this would allow the early draft picks to be used on midfielders.
The subjective question is who would you want from WCE -
GLASS or COUSINS?
It will be interesting to see what importance the club places on filling our key defensive positions against adding to our midfield. You would think that quality midfielders out weigh defenders – however it is best left to the considered the experts!
