What is your obsession with finals? 50 percent of players are already excluded because you arbitrarily make finals a criteria.

It isn't a set criteria.

Player A displays his wares & performs well in H&A games.
Player B displays his wares & performs well in H&A games & then takes his game to a higher plane, finals, & performs well.

On any day Player B has a higher rating.

If the 2006 draft was done again, Clarke would not be in the top 10. You are delusional to state otherwise, let alone say he would make it "easily".

As I said, Sheedy, Knights & co have rated Marty the success of that draft. It has reached a stage where clubs that didn't buy the Irish experiment, have changed their tune because of Marty's exploits. He has directly influenced recruiting tactics, you can't say the same for any player out of that draft.

this will be good to compare in 1 years time

the talls from that draft are about to come into play :thumbsu:

Not if player A is Bryce Gibbs and player B is Martin Clarke.

Regardless, Clarke's performances to date transcend all bar Selwood out of that draft. When Gibbs completely shuts out a forward who was the dominant player on the ground & then goes on to be one of the best players on the entire ground in a PF, I'll change my tune. Do the same the week before on the reigning Norm Smith medialist & I might be impressed like I was when Marty did the exact things!

Gibbs, Gumbleton, Hansen, Leuenberger, Boak, Selwood, N. Brown, Everitt, Riewoldt, Frawley, Hampson, Jetta and Grigg would all be ahead of him, and I haven't even gone beyond the top 20 yet.

Frawley? Hampson? Everitt? Jetta? Luenbeger? Clarke has out performed every single one of them so far. I'd love to hear justification of those players. I can accept Luenberger since he showed very promising signs pre injury, but the rest is laughable.

Christ dude, watch Collingwood. Clarke is an important part of the Collingwood side already and has arguably the best kick out of our side, intelligent, and easily our best endurance athlete.

He isn't top 10, but he'd be top 20. His rise to the AFL has been nothing short of phenomenal considering he hadn't kicked a football before he was drafted.

1- Gibbs
2- Selwood
3- Boak
4- Brown
5- Garland
6- Hansen
7- Luenberger
8- Gumbleton
9- Riewoldt
10- Houli

A top 10 off the top of my head. Marty Clarke would be just outside that group, alongside the likes of Tippet, Grigg, Urquhart, Renouf, Campbell, Everitt and Reid.

I agree. I have no argument with that.

the draft of 2006 was hyped up as a super draft, and most of the highly rated players were talls, which means they will take longer to rise.

But i am curious to know, how each club rates the players they picked up from that draft to date. i will give a rating of how i see the Geelong draftees have perfomed to date.

Joel Selwood- had question marks over him due to his knee's, but in his first two years he has been nothing short of phenominal, his toughness at the ball and leadership skills are second to none, he is a born leader and has lived up to every bit of expectations first placed on him, even risen a level or two above what was initially thought of him, is on track to be one of the elite midfielders in the AFL. rating- 10/10

Tom Hawkins- Had a promising start to his career, kicking 7 goals in his first two games, has had stress fractures in his foot, limiting his fitness work, has kicked 25 goals in 19 games in 2 seasons, has been inconsistent at times, which is expected of a young forward. Expecting a step up in 2009 from Hawkins. Rating 8/10

Djerkurra- Has not played an AFL game in his first two senior years, has spent a majority of time out with a groin injury, Looks to have speed and is built like an army tank, poses clean skills also, will be seen in action for the first time come the NAB cup. rating 6/10

Simon Hogan- althetic midfielder with a large tank, was a late pick in the draft, not a lot of expectations placed on him, but has been working extremely hard over the pre season, is expected to be given his first chance of AFL in the NAB cup. rating 4/10

How do they get 6/10 & 4/10 when they haven't done anything at AFL level?

How do they get 6/10 & 4/10 when they haven't done anything at AFL level?

I am not talking just at AFL level, because they are young players who have had a unfortunate run with injuries, their chances of senior selection was slim, also with the geelong midfield being so strong, the opportunities were very limited, but from what i have seen of djerkurra in the VFL, he looks to be tallented, that is where my 6/10 rating comes from, what i have seen in the VFL.

the rating i gave are based on a mixture of what they have so far shown and what was expected of them.

I disagree, i believe hawkins has shown very promising signs, 25 goals in 19 games i am very pleased with from him, and considering he has spent much of these 2 years with stress fracture problems which limited him, i am very pleased.

i am not sure about you, but i interpret a 4/10 as not being a good rating... and a 6/10 as just being decent... which from what i have seen so far of djerkurra i think he has done alright, considering his injuries and very limited chances at AFL level.

this is how i see the ratings, just so we are all clear on my geelong ones for argument sakes, you all can alter your 1-10 ratings as differently as you please.

0-2 very poor
3-4 underachieved
5-6- done well.
7-8 has performed very well and shown promising signs.
9- has shown very promising signs of becoming a star/ elite player in the future.
10- should rarely be given out, these are players which i believe have shown signs of going on to be absolute elite of the competition, such as a hird or a Carey.

any club supporters care to do one for their team on the players you picked up from this draft? i am interested to see how much of a success each club rates this draft from their perspective, it would be nice to get a few assesments.

Geelong supporters feel free to make your own on geelong, their can be others besides mine, as many would probly disagree with what i wrote.

Nathan Brown - 8.5/10
Ben Reid - 6.5/10
Chris Dawes - 6.5/10
Brad Dick - 6/10
Tyson Goldsack - 7/10
Marty Clarke - 8.5/10
Brent Macaffer - 2/10
Sharrod Wellingham - 7/10

1. Selwood
2. Gibbs
3. Boak
4. Brown
5. Luenberger
6. Gumbleton
7. Hansen
8. Tippett
9. Everrit
10. Garland

Note to Kangas and Bombers fans: don't be upset, I'm sure Hansen and Gumbleton will show us in due course that they are deserved top 5 selections... they just haven't done so yet.
But where you let yourself down from a North perspective is you've got Gumbleton above Hansen, and he really has done nothing. I'd also have Hansen ahead of Leuenberger. Has done more in about 10 less games. In fact probably won a game for North. Ironically, against Leuenberger's side.

Jack Riewoldt - 8/10 - Shown some good signs that he will be a good forward for us in the future. Won't reach the level of his cousin though.

Shane Edwards - 6.5/10 - Shown he could be a handy player but not convinced on him yet. Don't think he'll ever be a star.

Daniel Connors - 7/10 - Been very good in only a handful of games. Will become a very good player in my opinion

Carl Peterson - 0/10 - Already delisted. At Hawthorn now I think.

Andrew Collins - 4/10 - Hasn't had a game yet but was taken late in the draft. Will get his opportunity this year.
