Hey just thought i would start a thread for people to talk about their music experiences for this year and rate their favourite gigs, songs and albums.

I personally had a massive music year going to nearly 20 gigs. It was my first year out of school and i wanted to go to as many concerts as i could to make up for not seeing many bands in previous years.

Top 5 Gigs of '07
1. Bad Religion @ Festy
2. The Bronx @ the HiFi
3. Mars Volta @ Festy
4. Muse @ Festy (also saw them at Rod Laver, though I liked the Festy gig more because they played Citizen Erased)
5. NOFX @ the Palace: Seeing the Decline played live was just too awesome for words. (r.i.p the mighty palace!)

Honourable mentions to the Shins, Cancer Bats, Mid Youth Crisis and the Arctic Monkeys

Worst set of the year

Sparta @ the HiFi.... Really should've been a knock out set, but christ they were ordinary. Didn't help that the support act were so bloody good.

Strung Out: they weren't crap or anything, but they weren't flash either. Don't see why they're so popular over here.

Best Local Acts

Responder: seen these blokes four or five times in the last 18 months and they're never less than completely kick arse

Mercy Arms: the next jjj darlings for sure. Cannot get enough of them and they're terrific live.

Ghostwood: Sorta like a cross between Radiohead and Nirvana.... Kinda grungy at times but they construct these beautiful, sweeping songs that just take you away.

50 Lions: flat out brutal local metalcore band. Played many an awesome set at the Arty.

Hold Up: only just heard these guys, but they're an exciting hardcore band from Melbourne. Got my hands on their demo and they certainly promise big things in the future. Black Flag-esque.

Worst Local Act

Deez Nuts: they didn't get the memo that nu-metal died a horrible death back in 2001 and should never ever be brought back to life.

NOFX for hilarity and the decline live, Frenzal Rhomb were so ****en fun + drunkeness, Bad Religion were simply amazing and i'll probly never see them again, and dropkick murphys were fugging tops as well, nice long set with almost everything ou'd want to hear. Great year for gigs

Top 5 Albums
NOFX - I think they've gotten worse live (live album)
Bad Religion - New Maps Of Hell
Dropkick Murphys - Meanest of times - i think these were the only 3 new albums i bought all year

Best new act - my mates band is quality, they are called hornography look out for em. Mary Jane Kelly also from wollongong go allright as well. Disable arent exactly new but ive seen them a couple of times this year and they were friggen great.
Havent heard much new from overseas this year except against me, and they arent new just i hadnt heard them, they are decent. Other stuff like gallows hasnt impressed me much despite the hype.

Best local acts - Frenzal Rhomb and The Living End (still), been blasting the debut album frm TLE in the car recently it is an absolute beauty, one of the best 5 albums of all time (IMO of course).

Best International Acts - same old same old, still enjoying the like of nofx bad religion dropkick murphys etc, just good quality music

Worst International Acts - Radiohead, almost all hiphop and rap apart from maybe 3 songs and just alot of crap is out there.

Worst Local Acts - The Panics are aweful, sad to see what grinspoon have become after their first two albums, likewise silverchair, there is alot of shit out there.

Hope 2008 is better release wise, but im not confident. New Metallica album will be interesting altho probably shithouse like everything else since the 80's.

No I don't but I'd like to hear it. I hope it was Time Bomb.
Ize of the world,

loving the Jamie T praise.

Panic Prevention is all thriller no filler.. ;)

Simply brilliant album.

Also loving your user name. Its my favourite strokes song. Brilliant.

Cheers mate, we have a bit in common then. Biggest regret of the year was not seeing Jamie T in Melbourne. Heard it on live at the wireless, sounded like an unbelieveable gig.
