2008 NBA Draft

Seattle were definately the ones that got screwed.

Knicks can't be disappointed, only 1 spot difference.

Chicago if they were smart would trade the pick and a player for a star OR, trade other players for picks.

Meh, the Sonics lucked out last year getting Durant, so I don't think they got jibbed, I think the Grizz are the ones that are probably unlucky most of all, although they probably got Karma by basically trading away Gasol for next to nothing.

BTW I'm delighted the Knicks didn't get a top 5 pick either, fantastic :D

so whats the solution? every year stern and his mates sit around the table and decides who needs more help, then give them the no 1 pick?

but seriously, i dont know what a solution would be other than to give the worst team the no 1 pick and so on.

as for players not wanting to play in certain cities, yes thats true. i think charles oakley (?) said he didnt want to play in utah when asked about possible being traded there.

btw asms, whats with putting essendon as your team?

It's simple.

Set it up so that the three teams with the worst records are the only ones elligible for the 1-2 picks says.

Then start scaling it down so that each time a team gets their pick the next team in ranking comes into the fold(so teams that finish 5-8 aren't comming over the top of the truly crap teams), but have it set up similar as to how they have it now that you are guarenteed a pick by a certain point.

So the team with the worst record can finish no further back than pick 4, but at least aren't passed in the draft order by teams signifigantly better off than they are i.e maybe a team finishing with a 7-8th worst record.

No no no. You have to look at why the team are poor. In a lot of cases it is the admins fault and very rarely does a player (in the draft) refuse to go to a certain city. In fact I can only remember 1, Steve Francis (little Yao doesn't count as that is just a ridiculous situation).

Every NBA team has a chance to make amends with every mistake they make. For every bad contract you have, there are 2-3 teams willing to take it on to get under the cap.

Memphis have done an extremely poor job recruiting talented players to their ball club and should not instantly be rewarded for it. They have a chance to be compensated and that is the way it should stay.

Im not referring to draftees when I talk about refusals.

I'm talking about when players are marquee players or max contracts and them comming out stating they won't play for this, this and this club.

This is where the league is way to imbalanced.

Look at people like Iverson and the like who come out and say they won't play for ball clubs.

Take a marquee player, given the choice between playing for the Lakers or the Bucks even if the Bucks are going better at the time the Bucks still won't have the pulling power of the Lakers because alot of these black proffesional athletes don't want to live in Milwaukee.

And to me that's where having the ability to draft these young superstars when the chance arrives is important to alot of these clubs like Memphis and Toronto and Milwaukee etc..

Because without this avenue alot of player will just never be interested in going there.

If the Cavs hadn't drafted LeBron does anyone really think that franchise would have been somewhere where he'd have wanted to be drafted to?

I very much doubt that.

NOT A BAD IDEA. if we get the worst 3 teams, what happens if say a team is truly decimated by injuries in comparison to say a crap team with no injuries are tied for the third spot? do we then make allowances for the 4 to go into 3 and so on?

so whats with putting essendon as your team?

Oh my god. We agree on something. What is the world coming to?!

This would be a huge problem. Plus what's to stop a team like Miami throwing in the towel for the season if Wade goes down in a heap. Each year tanking would start earlier and earlier. Plus if management knew that a lowly record guaranteed a top 3 pick minimum it would certainly impact moves made in terms of bringing in FA's, etc.

if David Stern is gonna rig it, can he at least be unpredictable?

I'd say all conspiracy theories were put to rest last year when Boston missed out on a top 2 pick. Chicago is hardly on the same level as Boston, NY or LA.

Unless the conspiracy theory is that Stern finally decided to try to even out the West and the East, which is at least more logical, if not plausible.

Well take it on previous seasons records like we do with AFL.

Whoever had the lower wins in the previous season gets ranked higher.

And this isn't my account, it's my mates who never posts on BF ;)

He's just a gaylord bumbers fan :D

and what if both teams have an identical record (w-l) and identical points for/against in those games against each other?

First ESPN mock draft since the trade

Memphis Pick 28

Nathan Jawai
Position: PF
Height: 6-10
Weight: 270
Age: 21
Country: Australia

The skinny: The Grizzlies need a power forward with some real power, and Jawai has that in abundance. He's coming off a big year in Australia, and his game resembles Elton Brand's a little. At this point in the draft, he's worth the risk.

Seriously, Memphis would be an excellent fit for Jawai. Their Front court is weak, with only really darko and Warrick there. Jawai would get some nice minutes to prove himself IMO

I very much doubt that.

I understand your point but LeBron grew up in Akron, Ohio. He was more than happy to stay home especially being drafted straight out of high school.

Just saw on C10 news Ingles has decided to stick with the Dragons for another 12 months.

Possibly irrelevant because of the above statement, but does anyone else see similarities between Joe Ingles and Tayshaun Prince?

Prince listed at 6-9 & 215 lbs. Ingles 6-8 & 195 lbs.

DraftExpress reporting that Kevin McHale loves Kevin Love and is a good chance to take him with the 3rd pick.

Now, I know it's McHale, but still...is there any worse fit than Love in Minnesota? Surely there's some sort of rule where your two best players can't both be undersized PF/Cs?
