Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. Geelong - Still a great team

2. Hawthorn - Ditto Hawks

3. Dogs - Plenty of quality, depth not as strong as Hawks and Cats

4. Port Adelaide - Under performed in '08, needs a good run with injury

5. Adelaide - Will be up there as usual, some promising players emerging

6. North Melbourne - Loss of experience will hurt but still have quality

7. Richmond - Need to stay injury free, have the quality to make the 8

8. Essendon - Same deal as Richmond, will surprise a lot of people

9. Collingwood - Loss of experience will hurt the Pies but can easily make 8

10. West Coast - Key players back from injury will be a much better outfit

11. Carlton - I don't see Carlton improving as much as Tigers, Dons

12. St. Kilda - Crazy I know but someone from the top 4 always drops out

13. Brisbane - Too reliant on the same group of players

14. Sydney - Only beat one team in the 8 this season in the H&A, will fall

15. Fremantle - Too much experience lost, kids are promising

16. Melbourne - Good group of kids with too much burden

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1) Geelong = To classy and to good for the rest, 1 bad game cant kill them
2) Hawthorn = Still gonna be competitive come September
3) Collingwood = Will surprise many, fighting spirit is underrated in the AFL
4) WBD = Dont really rate them but have proven they have what it takes.
5) Adelaide = Drilled, Skilled, Home ground advantage.
6) Saints = Voldt preforms, top 4. If hes decent, top 6. Volt shit = no finals
7) Carlton = Juddy & Fev to lead them to first finals series in 8 years
8) Brisbane = Same as St. Kilda except Jono Brown
--------------------
9) Richmond = Too funny not to have them here. LMFAO !!!
10) Kangas = Alot of heart but not much skill.
11) Port Adelaide = Will do better than this but no room newhere else.
12) Sydney = Old, yet skillful. may do better
13) Essendon = Not yet, 3 more years.
14) Freo = LOLmantle got nothing. will fluke 6-7 wins
15) WCE = To young but will offer more than 2008 had.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1)Geelong – Will win home and away season.
2) Hawthorn – My tip for the flag
3) Western Bulldogs –Wont win a flag, but have a strong home and away side.
4) Richmond – Will make the top four but fall out in straight sets come finals.
5) North Melbourne – Work well as a team but they don't have the cattle to make the top four or have a finals impact.
6) Carlton – On the rise will out perform St Kilda and North to move into six spot.
7) St Kilda – Wont improve enough to retain a top four spot.
8) Collingwood – Good team. Lack stars and there offense fails to fire too often,

9) Brisbane – will fall short but I see them being around the middle of the ladder along with Adelaide and West Coast.
10) West Coast – Will fall short of the eight on ten wins.
11) Adelaide – See Sydney
12) Port Adelaide – Don't have the depth over the ground, ageing stars and underperforming youth.
13) Sydney – Will fall, list is ageing after so many years at the top.
14) Fremantle – Have issues with scoring goals, even with a near full strength squad. Midfeild will improve.
15) Essendon – Should be higher but I think they might lack the consistency.
16) Melbourne – Cant see them winning to many games this year.

Premiers: Hawks
Runners Up: Bulldogs
Brownlow : Kerr
Coleman: Buddy
Norm Smith: Buddy

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1) Geelong - Still the best side, hellbent on rectifying last years gf
2) Hawthorn - Despite the gf win, still 2nd too geelong, yet will improve on their form throughout the season as the younger kids get more exp.
3) Western Bulldogs - Despite not having a KPF, their run and talent will carry them this far
4) Collingwood - Decent midfield to get them through games, with a more developed nathan brown down back, and perhaps rusling up forward delivering on the promise that he has
5) St Kilda - Really depends on what happens with cousins, but i think this is a ballpoint spot. imo were very lucky to make top 4 this year, it was more the failings of other teams than their success. still have a fair all round team to get them to finals, but they never seen to follow through
6) North Melbourne - Were in a very good position to take fourth spot in 08 but screwed up. Still have quality players, and if edwards fires up (i dont think he will) they will benefit greatly
7) Sydney - Firstly i think they will fall down the ladder, yet every year they pull something out, i think 09 will be the same
8) Carlton - Surely their high profiles names will put something together, i expect a breif showing in the finals. perhaps just the one week.

9) Richmond - Could be swapping with carlton, but then again....its richmond....they love to come 9th. team also still a bit young. next year
10) Adelaide - Maybe unlucky to be this far down. blues, tigers and crows are all interchangable in my mind. but seem to have missed the boat.
11) Brisbane - Will take a while for Voss to do his work with the team
12) Essendon - Could move up as high as 9th. Still developing young list, with veterans able to win matches. Still developing a two way game plan that will begin to click in time for 2010
13) Port Adelaide - Much of the same in 09 i think. good midfield, but the other areas are not as classy
14) Freo - Could easily move up quite a few as many losses in 08 were close finishes. but i still dont think they have the all round class to do much
15) Melbourne - Will hopefully get a decent run with injury, faced 08 with some key outs. will not do much as they will be blooding youngsters
16) West Coast - Similiar to dees in blooding youngters. Will be looking to get game time in ebert, selwood, masten and who ever they pick up this year. will suffer for it in 2009 and probably 2010, but will appreciate it come the later years

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

I went through every game and tried my best to come up with a ladder. This is without % though, so teams on equal points, i have labelled together.

  1. Geelong (18 wins, 4 losses)
  2. Hawthorn, Brisbane Lions (16 wins, 6 losses)
  3. Port Adelaide, Western Bulldogs (15 wins, 7 losses)
  4. North Melbourne, Collingwood, Richmond, Adelaide (14 wins, 8 losses)
  5. St Kilda (10 wins, 12 losses)
  6. Carlton, West Coast (7 wins, 15 losses)
  7. Sydney (6 wins, 16 losses)
  8. Essendon (5 wins, 17 losses)
  9. Fremantle (3 wins, 19 losses)
  10. Melbourne (2 wins, 20 losses)

Realise that this has no chance of happening, but will stick by the same formula when i review my ladder after the drafts and pre-season. :thumbsu:

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. Geelong-Looking for revenge, will be relentless
2. Hawthorn- i think they'll start with a premiership hangover but come good, too young
3. North Melbourne-improving young list, if the senior players (Harvey, Petrie) have a good year again, a real chance
4. Brisbane Lions- Young and improving, Vossy has a good shot imo
5. Collingwood- thereabouts again
6. Adelaide- young side that will improve, hentschell, burton a welcome return
7. Richmond-on the way up
8. Western Bulldogs-wont repeat last years efforts
9. Carlton-the disappointment of 09
10. Fremantle-they'll learn to win, hopefully
11. St Kilda-lucky to claim 4th last year, i think their window has closed
12. Sydney-too old
13. Essendon-could definatly go higher, but will need to improve double on last year again
14. Port Adelaide-potential is there, a la 2007 but can they get back up there??
15. West Coast-too young, kerr has was too much reliance placed on him
16. Melbourne-will be better, but still too young

Grand Final Geelong vs North
Premiers Geelong
Wooden Spoon Melbourne

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1. Hawthorn - chance for back to back
2. Geelong - 2009 will be payback time
3. Doggies - same same
4. Saints - if they get Cuz
5. North - hard to predict, I've always knocked them, not 2009
6. Collingwood - same same
7. Richmond - on the improve
8. Carlton - on the improve
9. Brisbane - not good enough for the 8
10. Port - 2008 was an off year, might improve
11. Sydney - sliders, had to come picking 2009 as the year
12. Adelaide - sliders, had to come picking 2009 as the year
13. WCE - will improve a bit
14. Essendon - same same
15. Fremantle - will miss the experience guys who left this year
16. Melbourne - same same

Can't see anyone getting near Hawks and Cats. It would have to be a catastrophy for them to miss out but footy is a funny game. No certainties.

Dogs, Saints, Roos, Pies, Tiges and Blues making up finals numbers. Saints a smokey with Cuz perhaps but they need to make up a lot of territory.

Can't see Tiges or Blues getting into the top 4.

10th - 16th even, all depends on injuries but can't see them winning GF. Might sneak into the 8 but that's no biggy with final 8 system. Best case would be top 6.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Still think its a 2 horse race but its footy anything can happen.
1.Geelong - have only lost minimum games in the past 2 years
2.Hawthorn
3.W.Bulldogs were lucky a few times last year but should still do well
4.Carlton have a good draw and good mids so must improve
5.St.kilda need to get more out of the Midfield but should gain confidence from last year.
6.Collingwood need some hardness in the middle and young stars to stand up.
7. Adelaide did very well last year but have tough draw
8. Richmond good improvement last year lets see them keep it up or Terry is GONE
9. West Coast - laid players off early last year should see great improvement with senior players fit.(could come down to the round 22 match between these 2 for 8th place.)
10. Sydney starting to age predict a slip
11. Brisbane mid field not the same as it grows older and finding it hard to win on the road.
12. Kangaroos never say die but going to need help from the young guns
13. P.Adelaide - very up and down team hard to pick
14.Essendon fast pace will upset a few but will their defence stand up
15.Fremantle big loss of experience if they get a couple of injuries they'll be in trouble
16. Melbourne not this year

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

1-geelong- think they'll be very hungry next year and can't see them missing the flag

2-hawthorn- clearly the best 2 teams, i think hawthorn are still a bit young but should overtake geelong as the best team in the comp in 2010

3-western bulldogs-i think 3rd to 8th is just a raffle but doggies are at a good age and could repeat this year's performance

4-st kilda- st kilda may do some damage with no expectation on them

5-collingwood- one of the best coaches in mick malthouse, if they can get some consistency into them they will have a good year

6-kangaroos- not going to tip them out of the 8 again

7-carlton- could potentially finish a lot higher but are a bit too reliant on judd and fevola as the only 2 gun sneor players. an injury to one could result in a worse than expected position. and obviously we've got the worst forward line in the comp if you don't count fevola so we still have a long way to go. all i'm hoping for is development in our youngsters and with a pretty good draw, i think we'll be snapping our finals drought next year.

8-richmond- could sneak into the 8 with the development of some of their younger players. their older players in richo, brown, simmonds and bowden could all potentially re-produce some of the footy they played this year and if they do i can't see the tigers missing out on the eight.

---

9-fremantle- nothing went their way in 2008 and i think they have a good enough list to potentially play finals in 2009 but i'm guessing they'll just miss out.

10-brisbane- i can't see voss working wonders in hsi first year as coach. think he'll make a great coach down the track but it doesn't matter who you are, if you don't have any previous coaching experience you're likely to struggle in your first year. in saying that, they have a good enough list to make finals if brown, black, bradshaw and power can stay injury free.

11-port adelaide- with the return of chad cornes and the development in younger players such as boak, pearce and westhoff the power shouldn't have as bad a year as they did in '08.

12-sydney- they are getting a bit old and predictable but the same thing gets said about them every year and it's worth mentioning they have the spirit to perform a lot better than most people expect.

13-west coast- can't see much improvement so soon. the return of kerr and a fit glass will see them do a lot better but i think they are going down the right path in terms of rebuilding and could return to the 8 by about 2011.

14-adelaide- the big sliders of '09 in my opinion. very well disciplined and structured, but with goodwin getting older, burton out with an ACL, no good ruckman, no good forward i can't see them having a very good year unfortunately.

15-essendon- had a wretched run with injury this year but it's pretty obvious their best players are all past it. they have a lot of good young talent coming through but all are too young to make a big enough impact in '09. unfortunately for the bombers, they do not have enough good players at their peak age.

16-melbourne- hopefully won't be as bad as this year but i think they will struggle to avoid the spoon again.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Geelong- Still the premier team in the competition, and will be for next year at least.
Hawthorn- Yeah, we say this every year, but can't see any serious challenges for the two Grand Finalists. Both are a class above.
Western Bulldogs- The best of the rest.
North Melbourne- Underrated, as always.
St Kilda- Have the squad which warrents a top 8 spot. Injuries and luck could see them push into the top 4 again
Collingwood- Thereabouts. A top 4 finish would be a successful year, but can't see them challenging Geelong and Hawthorn for a flag in any case.
Adelaide- Heading south.
Carlton- Break in to the 8 this year, just. Still have a way to go before they will seriously challenge a top 4 spot.

Richmond- One more year. Will be in the top 8 long enough for Wallace to get a 5 year extension.
Sydney- Made this mistake last year, but what goes up must come down.
Essendon- No team can have that much bad luck in terms of injuries two years in a row. In the right direction, with a few lucky wins, who knows?
Brisbane- Will be a steep learning curve for Voss, but they are headed up.
Port Adelaide- Was 2007 or 2008 the true story of where Port Adelaide is at the moment? Next year will tell.
West Coast- Won't bounce back this quick, will make good use of quality picks in the draft, and quality kids on their list. Can't see them spending too many years down here.
Fremantle- Another year to blood talent, another year for Harvey to fend off the wolves running around in WA media circles.
Melbourne- Sorry, not this year. The rebuild starts now.

Will be a tight race for the 8. Two wins will probably be the difference between 7th and 12th. And can't see any major changes in position, like Port and WCE last year, but I will no doubt be wrong in that regard.

Re: 2009 AFL Ladder Prediction

Even though I know I'll be entirely wrong, I'll give it a go anyway. (please don't be offended if I put your team low, it's just a guess) At the end of the home and away season I think the order will be like this:

1. Hawthorn
2. Collingwood
3. Geelong
4. Port Adelaide
5. Footscray
6. Brisbane
7. Richmond
8. Carlton
9. Adelaide
10. St Kilda
11. Freo
12. Sydney
13. Essendon
14. West Coast
15. North Melbourne

Premiers: Geelong (will make sure to peak at the right time next year and will want to enact revenge)
Runners up: Hawks
Brownlow: Deledio
