Since the season is over and the list is being reviewed I was wondering how our foward set up should look next year. In our best years 05/06 this was really the area that carried us given we could score alot without much opportunity and kept us in games. At our best this year with good supply we kicked some descent scores with a spread of goal kickers but at our worst we really broke down up foward and struggled to keep up.
These are the foward's on the list:

Barlow (194cm) can play back and mid aswell
Bevan (183cm)--can play anywhere
Buchanan(180cm) looks better in the mid
Davis(184cm)
Grundy(192)-looks like he'll be a better back tho
Moore(178) prob play mid next year
O'keefe(190)
O'loughlin(190)
Playfair(198)
Hall(195)
Veszpremi(181)
White(196)

Just wondering what your best foward set up would be and why, and who should/shouldn't be on the list next year.

My set up would be

HF:O'keefe Hall Playfair
F: Bevan O'loughlin Veszpremi

O'keefe, Hall, O'loughlin are part of the foward line that took us to 2 grannies doesn't need to change.
I'd like to see Playfair there aswell, he showed be was a good link player getting alot of the ball around 60m from goal. Like to see that again, aswell as playing deep aswell he's a good mark and thats something we struggle to do inside 50, just needs to fix up his set shooting.
Also i like Bevan and vesz and the smalls, Pat's got some flair and looks like he can kick a good goal. While Bevan does a great job tackling and locking the ball in can also mark and kick a goal.
Moore, Barlow, Buchanan in the mid and Grundy down back. White to come in when form drops off.
Unfortunately looks like Davis won't be part of it next year, but wouldn't be in my first choice either.
I'm pretty happy with our foward line though, give them opportunity's and i reckon we could kick some pretty big scores

What about

Brendan Murphy (197cm)

Back in January last year Murphy's 3km run time was apparently only afew seconds of ROK time. That shows that Murphy is extremely fast for a big man.

Is he a foward? don't know anything bout the ressies. Does he look likely to play much next year? If so I'd like to see him play if someone else if injured/out of form, quick big men are prety handy

More shows his endurance was very very good for a 197cm tall. Don't think 3km times are an indication of footspeed, nor that a favourable comparison to O'Keefe would mean much in the speed stakes, given that O'Keefe is not particularly quick himself.

Having said that, Murphy is quick. Very quick, especially for a 197 cm tall. Watching him during the pre-season this year it looked possible that he was as quick over 10-20m than Kennelly. He was looking nothing like as quick towards the end of last season in the reserves games, which might have been due to the weight he'd quickly stacked on or due to reported shin splint problems he was having.

I am on the McBoob bandwagon:)

nearly

Grundy does a Scarlett type run from FB then kicks it a mile to Coleman medalist ...Henry!!!:thumbsu:

Wake me up when it comes on TV!:D

MUST develop a new forward pattern but it is no longer simple as placing 6 players in there it changes throughout every game ! every week! and involves a upto a dozen players!

If BBBH is there? use him carefully and NOT the main go to!

Was just playing around with our forward line in the unlikely event that Hall does get traded to the 'Dogs, it doesn't look too bad, IF we get them all on the park at the same time!

HF: O'Keefe Playfair Buchanan
F: Grundy O'Loughlin Veszpremi

I have gone with Reg in the pocket first up as the third forward, though he could play FF if MO'L got injured.

Have included Monty as Roos did play him in a small forward role earlier in the year, alternately Moore or McVeigh could also slot in there. White/Barlow could come in if their form warrants it. I'd like to have Davo there too but I'm not getting my hopes up :(

Of course, if Hall ends up staying, he'd come in for Henry, with Playfair standing by in case of any more brain snaps.

HF: Playfair Cornelius O'keefe
F : Bevan O'loughlin Moore

This paragraph is going to contain alot of ifs:

if we manage to keep our first round pick at the end of the trade period and if we draft Cornelius he is not a centre half forward.

I saw him play a few times for glenorchy in the tassie league and he doesn't strike me as a centre half forward, he would have to be developed into one.

He spends alot of time in the goal square as a permanent full forward.

Thats ok aswell as we also need a young Full Forward.

HF: O'Keefe Hall Grundy
F: Veszpremi O'Loughlin Barlow

A touch tall, maybe, but with Barlow pretty agile, O'Loughlin able to play small and tall, and Moore and Buchanan rotating through, shouldn't be too much of a worry. Bevo can spend some time forward as well.

Playfair/White/Murphy/whichever utility we choose can come off the bench.

I would like to see
HF: Playfair O'Loughlin O'Keefe
FF: Veszpremi Hall Grundy

I think Moore should play as a small forward. Maybe:

HF: Playfair O'Loughlin Grundy
FF: Veszpremi Hall Moore

With O'Keefe in the midfield.

o'keefe is often up on the wings anyway, but i think he needs to start from the forward line.

this is the setup i'd like to see:

HF: playfair, o'keefe, moore
FF: veszpremi, hall, o'loughlin

i think hall and o'loughlin both need to play deeper in the forward 50 and the other 2 talls (playfair/o'keefe) need to lead out hard to create the space inside 50 for hall and o'loughlin.

moore and veszpremi need to start outside 50 as well (so their defenders can't go as 3rd man up) and then sprint back to the fall of the ball for crumbing.

we need our forward line as sparse as possible to get full value from both hall and o'loughlin.

lets just get steele sidebottom and we are set

tough chance of that... from what i've heard is that he's almost a certainty for top 10
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

HF: rok, hall, vesz
FF: moore, mol, playfair

rok & vesz - play midfield/forward role
hall - give him plenty of space to work with, so at half-forward
mol - play deep.... probably won't be able to run like a triathlete, but should remain a star in the one-to-one contests
playfair - should do alright marking inside 50... just hope he doesn't miss the shots
moore- doesn't have endurance, just tackle and scrum for goals inside 50

please someone tell me why PLAYFAIR was recruited last year.
i didnt expect him to perfrom well this year and even though he has had injury...
softer then a marshmellow. :thumbsd:
