I would hope this board will only be used for trades involving injuries for the next couple of weeks.

Raines? Depends on diagnosis. Got good bench cover (I think) and no way am I trading unless he is out long term, 6+ weeks. Just have to ride with it for now.

Just before round 3 is the perfect time to pick up a bolter or a cash cow.

In the last 3 years I have used 2 trades before round 3 and they have probably set my season up.

If you have a player that looks like he may be a bad pick, then trading them to someone you may have missed out on could be great.

Only problem is, you have to read the situation well. Thornton and Brennan are classic examples of jumping on the wrong bandwagon.

ill have to consider getting rid of raines
depends how geary goes and how bad raines injury is

I will not be trading out Raines if it is less than 3 weeks. I have Hurley on the bench who is the safest bench option (i have hill on the field) imo.

Im aiming to not make any changes for till atleast round 3-4. Mitch Robinson to Jimmy Bartel by round 8 anyone:p

raines injury looking optimistic

No, its not.

"We’re not sure, we’ve got to wait for the morning to see where it sits," he said.
"It’s the lateral outside of his knee, so we’ll just have to wait and find out how he pulls up, whether it’s cartilage damage or whether it’s just a strain.
"It’s nothing to do with [last year's] dislocation. I think it’s on the same knee, but certainly not related."

Please, by all means go ahead and make non injury related trades after Rd 1 :)

Raines injury seemed very similar to the J.Hunt knee. I reckon hes gone but im optimistic about the most popular 2009 DT player.

I think its also good using a trade especially after round 2, to try find a bolter and lose a flop pick. I shouldve done it last year with N.Jones to M.Murphy, but as he said you must read the situation and watch the players games. This is where the extra cash in hand can help.

I have Raines and will also be keeping him. I have Hill and Petrenko both sitting on the bench so the back ups are there.

What happens if Hill doesnt play or gets dropped after this game. Petrenko will not play round 2 with S.Thompson, Johncock, Symes coming back into the side unless another 3 injuries oocur in adelaide side.

Would have been a brave move for those going with Petrenko knowing that. If you've got Suban i wouldn't be feeling too bad. Broughton not even being on the extended bench would raise alarm bells though. I thought Hurley was a good option to get early games so shouldn't have to trade unless Raines is gone long term. He seems to have the body for AFL, Hill is just a boy. Geary and Petterd might be juicy as a replacement..

I went Suban and Broughton because Broughton i reckon will play more games than Petrenko for the season. Im not too dis alarmed that he wasnt named round 1, because Harvey likes to play safe for round 1. He will get a gig before round 4 IMO. Suban and Hill are best 22 and i think Harvey really likes them both.

Ive just put some thought into the raines situation, and come up with these two scenarios:

TRADE RAINES
Rounds 1, Raines, 68 = 68 points
Rounds 2-7, Geary, average 65 = 390 points
Rounds 8-22, Hodge, ave 95 = 1425 points

TOTAL = 1883 points

DONT TRADE RAINES
Rounds 1, Raines, 68 = 68 points
Rounds 2-6, Hill, ave 55 = 275 points
Rounds 7-12, Raines, ave 75 = 450 points
Rounds 13-22, Hodge, ave 95 = 950 Points

TOTAL = 1743 points

By not trading raines though, you are saving an extra trade. Question is, does an extra 140 points (based on my personal estimates – you should do your own) warrant the use of a trade this early in the game?

My thoughts are mixed, however, I think you can easily upgrade a rookie averaging 55, to a fallen FW premium (for example) with a double trade. Say the rookie averaging 55 peaks at 210k, and then you have another one (also averaging 55) that you use as a cash cow gaining 125k. For 325k, you would hopefully get a fallen brown, riewoldt etc. Now, lets say this upgrade would improve your team, by 30 points per week (55 ave player upgrade to 85 ave player). This would equate to 330 points if it was made just before round 12. Now for a double trade, this then waters down to 165 points per trade, which exceeds the 140 points you would gain by trading raines out now. Also, what if this trade is executed earlier? In round 10 = 180 point game (40 pts better than raines trade), and in Round 8, this trade = 210 point gain (70 points better than raines trade).
I also think this upgrade could reach jonathan brown, and riewoldt, who may well average 90 , 95, or even 100, meaning the points gained by an upgrade like this compared to raines trade, is even bigger!

If you haven’t got hill on the bench, this would be a different scenario IMO, as i think you might get a zero or two, increasing the gain made by trading raines.

Im not the best with this sort of stuff, but maybe some others could try and project some outcomes of trading raines, and not trading raines.

Cheers.
