News 2010 AGM - Tuesday 14th December

Got the notice in the mail today. Same place as the last few times - the Yarra Park Room, Olympic Stand, MCG, 6pm.

My first question: why not at the shiny new social club? Isn't this one of the reasons we built it? I'm prepared to give Jason Johnson's horse doovers a go. There hasn't been more than a hundred there the last few years, so why not do it at our home?

One of the agenda items is to announce the result of the directors' election. As we haven't heard about one, I presume there were no challengers and the result is just a formality.

I'll try and put together a list of questions for the admin (not the football department!) so that we can get better than off-the-cuff answers from the floor on the night.

Yeah mate :thumbsu:

Status Quo for the Carlton Board

The Carlton Football Club Members have endorsed the current Board with no nominations being received to challenge the existing directors who nominated for re-election.

As a result the six directors will continue in their role in 2011 with the formal process to be completed at the 146th Annual General Meeting of the Carlton Football Club to be held at the MCG on Tuesday December 14th.

I've never been, but am considering going this year. Can someone tell me what exactly happens and if it's a sit down thing or not? Thanks.

See, nobody really challenges unless things are going wrong. Why cause upheaval unless it is for self interest?

We get bagged for nobody challenging Elliot until we were in trouble, but the reality is that there really wasn't enough reason to, aside from him being publicly outspoken more than we would like.

As soon as we had reason, someone stood up and he was gone.

Not a really enthralling night. Life members get announced, clubs lets us know what sort of position they are in off-field. The most interesting part of the night comes from the questions from the members - so real rocket scientists out there!

I spotted this on the club's website last week which got me wondering what happened to the rumours posted by a couple of Carlton supporters telling us there was going to be some big things going down in relation to the club's board.

I sometimes think there is a handful of Carlton supporters who long for the days of constant board leaks, infighting & financial struggles. Now is not a good time to be a glass half empty kind of supporter.

There are enough seats for everyone (not like in 2002). The board/admin/secretary sit at the front and go through their side of things, and then people get up and ask questions at a microphone provided for just that.

New faces are often (but not always) introduced. Occasionally there'll be a legend sitting in the crowd (like Syd Jackson was a few years back).

Then we sing the song.

Afterwards there is finger-food & drinks on the house. It's a good chance to button-hole one of the chiefs.

You're not saying this post is a load of crap surely? :o

Allegations of boys club etc etc are thrown about with our lot, but did you see the reports that Geelong haven't had an actual election since 1998:eek:.

Well Wilson did quit on the tenth according to the annual report. The stated aim is to reduce numbers and I'm sure Sticks will step down as Pres at some stage rather than hang on for dear life for years and years as THS seems to fear. THS seems to be spinning it into some sort of titanic struggle rather than a handover at some stage.

Nothing unexpected. Just the solitary windbag full of stupid demands tonight (apparently Greg Swann is no good and not worth the money we're paying him, amongst other grizzles).

Brad Fisher, Kade Simpson, Jarrad Waite all got their life memberships. Fish spoke really well, but The Mudd needs some toastmaster sessions.

Obituaries were read for past players and supporters (with a fond mention of Cath Byer). Life memberships awarded to people who have worked behind the scenes for decades - god bless 'em.

The club is putting together a document detailing our future plans. It should be in our hands by the middle of 2011. I guess it will cover things like the rest of PP, our debt, and where we play our home games. No point trying to preempt it, so we'll wait and see.

The Storm have moved out, and the Rebels have moved in. No mention of any secret file rooms.

The new national draftees were introduced, and they're definitely a tall bunch. Pat McCarthy is a quiet one, but Mcinnes might be the larrikin we need. The captain himself said a few words, including that Twiggers is batting above her weight, and that she can't wait to get her hairy bald man.

Aside from bucket-mouth, everyone else had mostly sensible questions.

Chris Pavlou had been very sick, and one member was upset that the club hadn't done enough to help him, although Sticks seemed a bit mystified by that as he'd only played golf with him a week ago. It sounds like they're all good mates so they'll sort that out between themselves, assuming there's anything to sort out.

The reason the AGM wasn't at Princes Park is because they didn't think we'd all fit in there once the training space was filled with chairs. For the record, there were about 200 attending tonight. The cafe can hold 200, but standing in a cocktail format - not seated like the G's Yarra Room.

Bucket-mouth did ask a sensible question about us having a permanent social club again at PP, but I doubt the board thinks anything more than the existing cafe is feasible. It's not like everyone's going to drink up and celebrate during an 8am training session. OTOH, we host quite a few VFL games now, and eventually we're going to need a place to party on after a premiership :D.

The gap between the Pratt Stand and the Visy Centre is some MCC hangup. The club planned to put a basketball court there, but the council wanted the gap for some reason. Swann hopes to talk with the incoming state government and the MCC to sort this out.

The board acknowledged the debt levels and stated that now construction had finished it was our priority. Sticks mentioned we expected to shave it by $200k this year (which hardly sounds impressive - unless I misheard it).

Member pack merchandise quality was brought up by a member, and Swann acknowledged it was a wide-spread complaint, and that suppliers had been changed for 2011.

Others may have button-holed the big-wigs over a beer, but I had to dash. Anyone else attend?

What's crack_pipe look like?
He didn't have an Irish accent, so it wasn't Celtic Pride. And no beard, so I doubt it was Spudchamber either. No doubt he's a long-suffering member. For all concerned.

Middle-aged, shortish, gut (like I can talk), and well known to the board.

I get the impression he wants a life membership without the obligations that usually justify one. Everyone he knows agrees with him, probably just to shut him up about it. At least he's paid up and no doubt passionate in the right direction once the siren sounds so I shouldn't bag him any more.

But it feels so good!

Why is it crap???

You should have asked Sticks if he had to personally try to convince people to not stand... (of the good of the club).. 2010 Elections... and they (one in particular ) not saying it Fahour) is promised he will be on in 12 months...

and whether more people wernt told to stand down with only Wilson doing it.

One board member was asked to stay for one more year.... )works for Fox) He actually agreed...

but a couple of others flatly refused to stand down.. in the forseeable future...

You should pay attention junior!!.. you might learn something.....:thumbsu:
