I believe we should be expecting a prelim next year, and with the right draw we could evern finish top 2 at the end of the minor round, making the elusive GF appearance easier

If you check out the 2010 ladder prediction thread on BF (sorry no link) it's amazing how many posters have picked Adelaide as favourite.

I don't know that we should be favourites but its hard to see us going backwards next season.

I, for one, will upgrading to a gold membership....just in case.

EDIT here's the link http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=624657&highlight=2010+ladder

Wouldn't mind Carlton at those odds! With Warnock fully firing and Waite back in, they're spine is looking very strong, will be competing in the grannie against them :p

I think people are finally starting to realise that we have picked up some real talent in recent years despite playing finals every year Craig has been a full time head coach for us.

I chatting about our prospects with a mate the other day and we thought we would rate how many of our mid to early age players are 200 game players based on what we have seen so far at AFL level. We have included Rutten, Bock, Thompson and Johncock into this list as we believe that they have another 5 + years left in them.

So here is our list of what we believe are 200+ AFL game players in the making with a lot of good footy still ahead of them.

Tippett
Thompson
van Berlo
Walker
Mackay
Vince
Johncock
Knights
Otten
Rutten
Dangerfield
Porplyzia
Bock

Thats 13 players and its not including the kids that we have not, or have hardly seen at AFL level that the club rates highly (Davis, McKernan, Sloane)

When you think about it, not many sides have that many players who are (injury permitting) realistic 200 game players.

To play 200 AFL games you have to be a pretty good player.

We are a silly chance next year (though I fear we might still be a bit "green") and we should be better than this year. Add another PS into Mackay, Tippett, Vince, Dangerfield, Otten, Walker, Hentschel etc and you have a pretty big score for improvement next year.

The challenge for us is to keep this list together and keep adding solid players and prospects to it in what is going to be a rough drafting period over the next 5 odd years.

Unlike playing 7 games against the top 4, and just 7 against the bottom 6 like this season. I know the AFL doesn't know how good teams are going to be in the forthcoming season, but they have some idea and we got shafted. Agreed we rarely beat any of the teams above us this season, but did anyone have such an awful draw as us? I very much doubt it. If that sort of thing happens again I don't care how good we are it will take its toll and affect our finishing position.

I will be waiting to see what a decent PS does for the birdman. :thumbsu:

And yes we will still be a bit green, but the 'top end' is very experienced, not to mention, brilliant.

Harsh on the Pies...
I'd say without seeing any of 2010, $8.00 is pretty right.

I suggest everyone get involvd with the rising star because that's the easiest to get good odds.....Rich @ $10 :D

IMO Carlton wont make the top 4, great midfield however their list lacks depth, too reliant on too few

they need to find another avenue to goal and strengthen their back 6 to be a serioius contender

however expect the AFL to help them with another soft draw

This may be the first year in Craig's tenure that we may actually be rated by some of the interstate scribes. Mike Sheahan I'm looking at you!

IMO Cats and Saints will remain tough to beat however the gap between the top 2 and the next clubs will be closed significantly

Adelaide has the most potential improvement in their list, Danger, Walker, Vince, Tippett, D-Mac and Otten will all get better and Sloane, Davis and SMACK will all add to the side in 2009

Hawthorn will be the bolter, there players off season surgery is already out of the way and all players will return healthy for an early pre-season

Collingwood, I dont rate as highly as others and they would need big seasons from Cloke and Cameron Wood and to go the next steps. Fraser, O'Bree, Davis and Lockyer are all passengers in my opinion, the Pies will also need to find a big bodied defender in the off season

Carlton, has a great midfield but the question mark is does there midfield work hard both ways. The key issue with Carlton is that they lack depth, another avenue to goal and need to strengthen their back 6

WB are difficult to assess and the off season trading period will be important to them, I am expecting a drop from the Bullies to the bottom half of the 8

A Premier rarely misses the 8 which suggests more issues than we think. Another thing, they only played Saints and Bullies (both top 4 sides in 2008) plus Collingwood only once. They had a soft draw in 2009 and still couldn't make the 8

The key issue with Carlton is that they lack depth, another avenue to goal and need to strengthen their back 6They will not have Judd for the first 3 games of 2010. Need other goal kickers other than Fevola.

We should be have a minimum expectation of top 4 given in both 2008 and 2009 we just missed out and we ain't even at our peak. Anything other than top 4 is a fail!

How are we shorter odds than Collingwood and Carlton are even with them?

Our chances IMO hinge on the 30 plus players staying in good form.

It all depends on how our veterans play out next year. If they are as handy as they were this year, we should do as well - if not better - than we did this year.

They couldn't hope to be. history tells us that. One or more of them will spend time in the SANFL next year IMO. I am worried about carrying them all.

I don't agree, it will all depend on the continue improvement of Tippy, Danger, Otten, Maric, D-Mack, Vince and Walker

with a core group of Knights, VB, Stiffy, Bock, Rutten, Porpy, Thompson and Dogga we are becoming less reliant on Macca, Zoomer and Goody

Would have expected the Pies to be shorter than this. They were probably the 4th best team this year. Hawthorn at 12 ahead of the Pies and Blues is ridiculous.

I completely disagree. Our future, next year and probably the premiership window of the next 3-4 years is dependent on the young players standing up. Goody, Edwards and Macca will be seeing more bench time to make sure they can play a full season and the young midfielders will need to step it up. If we are basing a flag in the next few years on the 30 plus players being in form then we will not win one.

As long as the club is impartial in its calls on the vets if their form falls away, we'll move ahead of the pies next year imo.

I think that improvement will come and make us a better team, but in the short term I can't see us winning a flag next year if Macca, Goody and Edwards drop off to any significant degree.

HA ha ha. That will never happen. When it comes to the crows, Sheahan has his head firmly planted up his @r$e. He prefers to remain ignorant and hopes the crows will just go away. Well I got news....
