Any chance of some Aussies going in the Draft?

I've been keeping an eye on Andew Ogilvy. He is the starting center for Vanderbilt University. He has made himself eligible for the draft and could be a chance to be picked.

The mock draft at NBA Express has him going at pick 27 in Round 2.

Is he a real chance and are there any other Aussies with claims?

ogilvy the only real aussie chance this year. frankly i see him going undrafted plus his game suits euro ball more so anyway and should end up there at a decent european team though not euroleague. newley may finally get an nba crack though if houston trade his rights away.

Forgot about Newley, where is he playing and what are his stats like?

Just made me think about Joe Ingles too. Where's he at? He was a NBA prospect once too.

newley is in turkey dominating, houston hold his rights. ingles is in the spanish league and probably doesnt suit nba game but will be a gun for boomers in world champs etc. aleks maric will also get nba offers as he made euroleague all-star 5. he will get paid more from euro teams than nba though so may knock them back.

havent followed newley since he left the nba so dont know his stats in europe. by dominating do you mean mvp like stats (around 30 ppg etc)?

Only if we want to keep sucking. The guy's a dud.

60% shooting is tremendous but really, not a lot else in there to fap about.
Well he was 6th in the league in scoring and has just signed with Euroleague team, Lietuvos Rytas.

As for the draft, AJ Ogilvy is the only Aussie nominating, and he has a slim chance of being drafted...

bit harsh on newley there.

aleks maric made euoleague all star 5. amazing effort yet recieved no attention in aus. i have a feeling he will reject nba offers to stay in europe.

Ogilvy's star has fallen considerably. He had a great freshman year (17.0 pts / 6.7 rebs / .588 FG% / .769 FT%) and was being spoken of as a future first rounder. Then in the next two seasons he made no real improvement, or got worse.

Cannot understand why he thought giving up his final year of eligibility was a good idea (nominated as an early-entry AND signed with an agent). A-la Patty Mills, another year of school would not have hurt him; perhaps he has a turnaround year and pumps up his stock for the 2011 draft. It would be a shame for a guy with such promise to end up languishing in the NBL. I suspect his road will lead to Europe, and maybe he'll shine there.

He had a fall out with Vandy coach Kevin Stallings. Not surprised, his minutes per game was very low for the player he was. Vandy were great all season except for when it counted when they just plain sucked. I've been a massive fan of Ogilvy but realistically, his chances are slim. Such a shame. It's a very centre heavy draft and he really lacks any upside imo.

DeMarcus Cousins' interview on DX is a classic, a reporter asked him who the toughest player he played against this season. He said John Wall every day in practise. Another reporter said "I was thinking you might've said AJ Ogilvy." Cousins laughed and went "Ppffftt, oh my god!"

Is everyone thinking Ogilvy is actually better than he is?? When i watch Vandy games he doesnt actually stand out for me, just solid but so are a lot of other college players.
Im sure he'll get picked up, but ultimately is he ever going to get any minutes? i dont think so. So he'll show up on the end of the bench and cash in his pay check and then yet again, Aussie basketball does not really benefit from some that could get better and make the national team better!

Definitely. Although to be fair, his freshman stats were very good (17p 7r 1.5blk 59%fg 77%ft) but when Jeff Taylor came along (who might be a lottery pick next year) Ogilvy suffered.
