2010 WTA Tour Choke Thread

Lets record all the chokes that occur in 2010. I'm sure we've missed a few already but might as well kick off this thread with a real beauty!

1. Azarenka lt S.Williams despite leading 6-4, 4-0 (and deuce on Serena's serve).

This thread could be huge, keep adding stuff guys.

Not really a choke when you play S. Williams.

I remember Petrova was 1-0 sets and 5-2 serving and lost to her.

^It's still a choke because she mentally crumbled when almost at the finish line with a score that she should've won with.

Vera Zvonereva choked from almost the exact same position in the previous round against Azarenka. Up a set and 4-2, lost the last ten games.

Azarenka didn't choke that much, she did drop a level but Serena really stepped up her game, she still should be winning with that scoreline though

It wasnt really a choke. Williams has done that so many times, but most of those points were winners. Actually, a lot of those that match were winners, it was a good match. 3rd set she was off boil, but she was behind, tired, and mentally gone.

Those 4 games, where she lost it, she just faced a very powerful Williams on hot form. Champions do that.

I agree you could tell Azarenka was trying as she still took the second to a tiebreaker but she was overwhelmed

Alicia was 6-3, 5-2 up or something like that, Coin is a pretty awful player herself, it was a choke.

Which was just 1 break of serve, not a double break from memory. Coin is more solid. Molik's serve is average after coming back, her forhand is awful and her backhand is inconsistent!

Moliks game was a choke. She beat herself, not the other way around, if memory serves me correctly.

And her backhand is beyond bad. Or she does it pods it back into play, with a little spin. She cant hit a winner with that side. Forehand is better.

agreed - Molik choked bigtime. i still favour Stosur though as the leading choker in Australian tennis. At crucial points the ball rarely finds her strings...

She's a lot better then her 200 ranking suggests. Won't be top 10 again, but can make it back to the top 50 easily. She had that match in the bag, I remember watching it and thinking she's barely even breaking a sweat here, she'll cruise home... But no, her mind wandered and she choked.

Azarenka and Molik both big chokes. I'm pretty sure Molik served for the match.

And anyone who is up 4-0 in the second should win, doesnt matter if they are playing Serena. That match was in Aza's hands.
