Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

That game was insane all i can say is denard robinson is a miracle worker. Devastated still, really should have won bloody turnovers.

turnovers kill teams, thats why i put money on Michigan, with all the ND turnovers last week, heading into the first ever night game at the big house with more than 110,000 fans. it was closer than i thought i didnt think Michigan would also turn the ball over.

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Georgia goes down by 3 to South Carolina, not great for Boise St. But a solid game from Georgia none the less, and Georgia has the 3 easier teams from the west so if they can pick up 2 wins there and knock off Florida, Boise should get a little more attention. Though a lot of Boise's hope rests on the Dawgs
Not really.
There's more riding on all but 1 of Maryland, Clemson, Florida State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina, Virginia, Virginia Tech, Iowa State, Kansas, Kansas State, Texas, Baylor, Oklahoma State, Oklahoma, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Piitsburgh, South FLorida, Syracuse, West Virginia, Michigan, Michigan State, Nebraska, Northwestern, Illinois, Wisconsin, Ohio State, California, Stanford, Washington, Washington State, USC, Arizona State, South Carolina, Vanderbilt, Kentucky, Florida, Tennessee, LSU, Alabama, Auburn and Arkansas losing than on a few wins by Georgia.

Anyway, we dismantled Georgia, while South Carolina fell over the line,

Anyway, Georgia being in the SEC alone will help that SOS, if we are to rely on others winning, it needs to be Toledo winning the MAC, Tulsa winning the C-USA, Fresno State or Nevada winning the WAC, San Diego State and Air Force only losing 2-3 games each and become ranked.

Opens up the question from last year does the 12-0 Boise or TCU or Utah as it was then better that an 11-1 SEC or Big Ten or Pac school... though they'll deal with that when it occurs

Depends how good the non-AQ schools are. The 2 polls make up for 67% of the rankings.

I'd back this years Boise State team to be ranked above every team with a loss, if we're undefeated.

Dismantle Georgia (yeah, it was 35-21, but it very easily could of been 42-14 [offside on 4th and 7 that apparently wasn't there set up a score for them, and we kneeled at the 3 when we could of run up the score]) and a ranked SEC team struggle with them? That would of shown we're better than the SEC East.

The biggest worries for me is, is Oregon good enough to beat Stanford?
Is anyone in the Big Ten good enough to beat Wisconsin?
Is anyone in the ACC good enough to beat Florida State? (only valid if they beat Oklahoma)
Is anyone in the SEC good enough to beat the winner of Alabama vs LSU?

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Iowa St beat Iowa in overtime, nice little surprise and a good win for the big 12 in a rather bad week for the conference otherwise.
Yeah, there were some suprising results

New Mexico State 28, Minnesota 21
Rice 24, Purdue 22

Currently
San Jose State 17, UCLA 17 (12:25 to go in 4th)

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

I really need to find a college team.

How did you guys pick a college team? I know the punter at LSU so maybe them?
Just love an upset.
Saw the Boise upset over Oklahoma

Hooked ever since.

Oh, and you have to support Fresno State
They're the Western Bulldogs (Georgia are the Eastern Bulldogs)

You know Brad Wing personally? Thats pretty cool and probably as good a reason as any to starting following a team

He had a great 1st game last week punting in one of the biggest games of the season.

As for how to pick a team, it all depends on what you want out of it. Do you want to follow a team that is always in contention? Has a great history? Is an up-and-coming college? What style of play do you want to see?

If you can answer those questions it will really narrow it down

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Yep, I know Brad Wing.

I don't know if I want to follow a team ALWAYS in contention. I follow the Bills in the NFL, Celtics in the NBA and WB in the AFL. I don't think I'd want to follow a horrid team as I already follow a few of those!

I'm thinking maybe a team on the West Coast as it seems I mostly follow East Coast teams in other sports/leagues.

Fresno State Bulldogs? Are they any good? Fresno is a hole of an area right?

Are they any good? Not really. They play in the WAC which is a pretty weak conference and as such the best they can really hope for for the foreseeable future is conference championships and the odd upset against a ranked team. Also I'd imagine it would be next to impossible to watch them on TV.

Maybe a team like Cal or UCLA might be more your style if you want something on the West Coast? They play in the Pac-12 and have a pretty good history of of producing players for the NFL. Plus if you chose UCLA you'd have a good college basketball team too

You have to remember that college football is a lot like the NBA in that the same few teams compete for the Championship and the rest are really aiming for smaller achievements (conference championships, bowl games etc) so if you decide not to follow a contender, chances are small that they'd ever win a National Championship (unless the perfect storm of circumstances occured)

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

I'm looking at Boston College, Fresno State, UCLA and USC right now.
USC are struggling under their new coach.
Might never recover once Lane Kiffin is done with them.

I was just saying Fresno State.

Go Boston College

Re: 2011-2012 College Football Discussion

Either BC or UCLA would be a pretty good pick imo.

What's wrong with USC other than what Dirty Bird already wrote with their new coach?

I can't decide between these 3 teams. I'm currently reading all about them. Someone make a decision for me!

USC (assuming you mean Southern Cal and not South Carolina) is currently under sanctions for NCAA rules violations in relation to Reggie Bush receiving money while a player there. Their violations include a reduced number of scholarships for the next 3 years and not being bowl eligible for a couple of years. As such they aren't really playing for anything for a couple of years. Their coach, Lane Kiffin, seems like a bit of a flake and I don't particularly like them (but Im not really an avid college FB watcher).

Ordinarily they are in a different (higher) tier in terms of competing for a NC than the other 3 you named though, so if you'd like to see some Conference and National Championships then they'd be the pick.

USC is pretty good have a strong history, only comparable teams are the likes of Bama, Michigan, Ohio St and Notre Dame, and maybe Oklahoma when it comes to success on the field and championships, and should come good again after they get past all these sanctions in 3 to 4 years time. UCLA don't really contend that much. BC have been pretty quiet lately but have had intermittent success, particularly in ending Notre Dame and Miami's National Championship hopes on a couple of occasions. Fresno are ok, but yeah as Aussiedude said.
