Storm ratings are pretty ordinary when you consider they are now 1st and going great guns this year...

Hahahaha, wow the love in here is absolutely fantastic :thumbsu:

If the Storm ratings are as you say pretty ordinary, what's that make the Swans who are also in the top 5 and get live games in prime time 9 out of 10 times a season?

All that promotion on TV, radio and newspapers suggest the Swans should be absolutely trouncing the Storm on FTA TV.

But they don't, do they :thumbsu:

Gotta love TV ratings. Do you know what 86,000 is in reality? About 35 people. So there was 34 people watching the Swans in Sydney, 35 people watching the Storm in Melbourne. The other 85,965 is a guess.

How they justify 1.25 billion dollars on that is beyond me.

What promotion would that be?

You must live in a different Sydney to the one I do.

All I see is the paranoid Terrorgraph and flogs who threaten to walk off the set of TV shows if someone dares to even mention the AFL.

Still waiting to hear why Pommy Throwball will only get $1 billion for their rights given that it is so clearly the most popular TV sport in the country.......

Just wonder how low next Saturday night will be across the nation with no ONE coverage as a fall back due to MotoGP in the Netherlands (which ALWAYS races on a Saturday, this is not a one off).

This thread is populated with some of the most tragic posters on this entire board, basing arguments on numbers that have no foundation in accuracy or scientific theory. The fact billions of dollars is laid down based on completely inaccurate and compromised information is truly staggering.

It's an opinion piece ffs, no one knows what is going to happen.

And since when will there be no growth in NSW and QLD?

I haven't got Pay TV, haven't had it for 3 years and I know plenty of others who don't.

If the NRL gets a fair deal from Fox, I'll consider getting it again, if they don't, well I will not be signing up again.
Ha ha ha! I think he just shat on you.
Didn't you call someone else a sore loser?
What are you, twelve?
Also, come out and say what you think the next NRL TV deal will be.
Have some courage and make a prediction.
You spend a lot of time arguing why they should be getting more so come out and suggest the figure that they'll get.
You give your opinion on everything else.

You conveniently left this out:

Nine pays an estimated $200m under its existing contract and chief executive David Gyngell has made it clear he will fight hard to retain the NRL TV rights.

"Nine has a great deal on the NRL now" said one media executive.
"It gets 3 good games each week, plus Test Matches and the State of Origin series which generates huge ratings"

Read "Great Deal", means is getting screwed.
Read "said one media executive", means 'I don't care for true journalism, I'll just make this stuff up'

Ronin, you and your LU buddies spend a lot of time suggesting that League should be getting a lot more money. On LU a lot of you guys claimed that the AFL TV deal wouldn't get near $1 BILL. How did that one turn out for you? Must have been meltdown.

As you give your opinion on everything else, I'm sure a lot of posters are wondering what your opinion will be on the value of the next NRL TV deal. Have some courage and give us a figure. Written down (well, kind of) for everyone to see. Then we'll revisit this when the deal is announced.

Sampling is a perfectly legitimate way of deriving estimates. Stations are well aware of both the sample size and the estimated errors. It's irrelevant to the TV stations is the true number of viewers is 10k more or less than the estimate - it only seem to matter to fans.

exactly, surely going forward there's a better way that the digital age can sustain to tally up viewership.

so, you haven't actually critiqued the other points - and you've added a little extra of the article quotes.

What's it all mean then??

The AFL got a big pay day from the increase in revenue from Foxtel (and handing over 9 games live). For the NRL, Foxtel already has a pretty good deal - 2015 at the earliest seems a given now for even considering an expansion side, so, still 8 games, and remains to be seen how many live into how many markets based on relations with FTA broadcasters.

The AFL didn't so much get a big pay day from FTA, and Ch.7 now has 4 live games, but, non-exclusivity. NRL sees Ch.9 have a pretty good deal, and the NRL has effectively sold the farm to a degree to provide as good as possible a TV product (floating fixtures, dual Friday night games, Monday night 'tv' game, no Sat arvos etc etc). Can the NRL split the product offering? What'd happen if the SoO get's split out?? (similar to Socceroos vs A-League - would it be good or bad for the league left behind??).

Who knows what'll happen. Perhaps there'll be another Japanese tsunami or the US economy will take 3 more steps back and the purse strings will get tightened. For now, the AFL has the score on the board and that's a massive asset.

The most amusing part of all this are the NRL insulars getting excited by a 1 ratings point victory Storm v Swans. :D

Yep silly really.
But for those that want to believe, it is seen as a battle win.
Unfortunately not many people care when you are winning a few battles but in general you are losing the war.

So says the hypocrite who couldn't wait for the storms ratings in their second live game (50k), you had to be the first to post and rubbish them :D

Now that the Storm have beaten the swans head to head, you resort to looking for any excuse you can with the hope your dopey mates will listen.

Still waiting.

Given that it's clearly this country's number 1 TV sport, it will be at least $1.3billion surely?

Their choosing the head in sand approach. Best defence is deflection. :thumbsu:

Facts cold hard facts. :p

Its hard to resist pricking their little balloon and don't they bleat about it. :D

They 'win' a small battle here and there whilst next year the AFL is $250M a year from TV rights compared to the NRL's $83M in 2012 until their new deal comes along.

Now that's a win that drives another stake into their heartland.

So scared of the Storm, they must be getting so much money from their 86,000....oh wait, no-one goes to the games or buys memberships. Definently going to pay the rent at their new stadium....

The Storm are an abject failure at that stadium. So much for all the talk that its only the old crappy Olympic Park that was holding them back.

The Cap scandal just brought them back to their low core support prior to cheating, those who were conned into following them 2007-2009 have turned their backs on the convicts News Ltd construct.

The way the thugby urgers think it should be at least $2 billon!LOL

I would like to remind them again of the pathetic crowds this unwanted club gets to its Melbourne games. That sort of attendence has to be loss making.

They are still getting an ave of barely 10,000 to a game at the new whizz bang stadium provided by the Victorian taxpayers that was supposed to double their crowds esp as they now are top of the ladder.
