Either way McInness and Talia will probably be taken leaving a 191cm the next best defensive option.

We should go after the most hypo mid or the best forward option available. With any luck we score O'Meara because we won't have access to an all round midfielder in 2011 or 2012 for that matter.

For what it's worth, I agree with Eastern Hills about the need for forwards before defenders.

Also, there's that rumour about Hawthorn trading Mitchell for the pick to get O'mera. Don't know how true it is since I read it on BF but that might be an indication of what we'd have to part with to snare the bastard.

Obviously not a draftee but I wouldn't mind us having a go at getting Clinton Young from Hawthorn. Out of favour but he has great talent. A player who can have a run then kick it long like he can would have great value with our tall forward line.
Could give us an experienced replacement for Embley once he retires.

You cwazy.

Glass - old but could go another two seasons IMO.
McKenzie - promising signs at 23.
Brown - needs games but is good enough.
Schofield - third tall as far strength goes, superb spoiler. Only 22.
Brennan - can play tall or small (unproven and developing)
Smith - Can play tall or small. Good enough to spoil 192cm forwards.
JoJo - looks more like a midfielder these days and could be trade bait.

Lynch - old and he isn't a gun.
Kennedy - entering his prime.
Darling - potentially a KPF but that ship is yet to sail.
Lycett - he's a ruck/ forward and shouldnt be veiwed as a full time KPF. 18-24 months away from consistent game time.
Seriously dude, why even post this.

You post 4 KPF and match them against a host of defenders.

Lynch - at his peak, above serviceable unless it is wet weather

Kennedy - gun young KPF heading towards his peak, can play CHF or FF

LeCras - close to elite HFF. Can play midfield in patches, high HF or deep as a main target

Nicoski - above average HFF. Puts on solid defensive pressure, quick, strong and good snap on goal.

Darling - young KPF/HFF. Has shown he can play deep in patches, great workrate, tackling and good as a marking target playing further up the ground.

Hams - serviceable HFF. Short but strong overhead mark. Borderline 22 but has an excellent penetrating kick, hard at it though not a huge ball winner at AFL level.

Shuey/Gaff - both push forward of the ball in stints, both capable of snapping the odd goal and excellent disposal into the f50

Lycett - being groomed as KPF/ruck. His first game showed he can take a big grab and also kick a goal. Nimble for his size and could be fantastic pinch hitting forward. Still a season or two away from regular game time.

Wheedon - solid HFF. Beautiful disposal, can crumb a goal and good in contested situations. He does his best work around stoppages though and his endurance is not yet AFL standard.

Cox/NN - both pinch hit forward. NN is starting to pluck them and can certainly kick the odd running goal or crumb them. Cox provides a solid marking target and will only be spending more time forwards.

Wilson - just hanging in there. Despite that has shown he can cut it as a mark and lead KPF at AFL level.

Now this is what annoys me with posts like yours, the modern game demands flexible players and having a good spread of goal kicking options. What we need is players who can rotate forwards and kick goals.

Embley is on his last legs, as is Kerr. Midfields win games and attacking/quality mids are exactly what we lack.

More KPF should be at the bottom of the list.

Abundance? Other than Lecras Kennedy Darling which other players have proven their worth as guns?

Our defence is our best line, our young forward line and midfield still has room for more class.
How many do other teams have?

Ours would be close to the best forward line in the competition, class midfielders are what we need.

I think it's about time we got some more half back flankers. We could then field a whole team of them in the WAFL.

But in seriousness, who would we be targeting via draft-pick trade? What player, worth a first round pick, would want to make the trip west? We might get some more interest this year, considering the club's potential for the seasons to come. Rich has re-signed with the Lions, so we can stop salivating about that one.

An awesome KP back would be great. I reckon we should make a big play for Harry Taylor.

No chance in hell a coach would do this especially after the Brisbane fiasco where Voss basically fu@@#$#ed his team by trying to offload very popular team players in Bradshaw and Risch for one giant Jackass. Mitchell very popular person at Hawthorn - it'd be akin to trading a Cousins (without any drug history) for anybody let alone an untried 17 yr old.

Is it just me - or is this the most subdued year for the draft in a long time

By this time last year I already knew the likely top 10 candidates.

This year I know of Patton and Coniglio and that's pretty much it.
GWS already snagged a couple of the best from this draft pool.

Add to that our higher ladder position (more footy talk, draft less important) and the supposed lack of depth of this draft and that may explain it.

Also there were a few gun WA boys last year, whereas the next batch will mostly be available in 2012.

Thought the same thing today as well. Maybe we all haven't been focusing on who to draft like last year as it was all we were looking forward too.

when the team iis always losing and a low pick is looming can be a depressing talking footy why not look fwd to the players that can make you better and give hope for the future ..

Yep has shown some good form this year too. A preseason in the gym with Gaff so they can both bulk up. Would be a handy pickup.

The Mitchell to GWS rumour is actually a strong one. If the money is right he could go for the last massive payday.

They say he gave up the Captaincy but it was really both sides.

I understand there would be more personal interest with a high pick

But at this time last year I already knew that Swallow, Day and Bennell were going to GC

I was aware we were choosing between Gaff, Heppell and Polec

I knew that Gorringe was the standout ruck prospect

That Josh Caddy, Shaun Atley, Prestia were likely 1st rounders and that 2 of Jacobs, Smith and Lycett would end up at the south australian clubs.

Also started to get the hint that Darling may even slip to Fremantle.

As I said - all I know is that Patton and Coniglio are likely to go to GWS and that a bloke named Crozier took a good hanger.

^ Youve answered yourself then TFS - its mainly that you just havent had the same level of personal interest this year, like many Eagles fans. Overall its also a little quieter due to the draft talent being a bit weaker and the GC factor having already soaked up the 'new club impact' discussion hype last year.

But thats not to say its the info isnt out there if you were interested - the Draft and Trading board like last year has lots of discussion - trail BF Draft has already happenned, etc... and like normal those clubs finishing lower in the ladder with higher picks are dominating the discussion...

But at this time last year I already knew that Swallow, Day and Bennell were going to GC
We already know GWS are going Coniglio and Patton, with Wingard an almost certainty to be number 3

I was aware we were choosing between Gaff, Heppell and Polec
We are so far down the pecking order its much more variable, but draft has some fairly even depth after those three, so Port at Pick 4 are choosing between any , Longer, Sumner, Tyson or local lad Grigg... Tyson probably most likely though (mioght even go at 3) ... but it is a lot more even Top 10 choices

I knew that Gorringe was the standout ruck prospect
Longer is clearly the top draft prospect this year, but its a weaker ruck draft overall

That Josh Caddy, Shaun Atley, Prestia were likely 1st rounders and that 2 of Jacobs, Smith and Lycett would end up at the south australian clubs.
Similar kinds of broad info on SA local pick options etc available on the sub board

Also started to get the hint that Darling may even slip to Fremantle.
Hasnt been any similar 'bad boy / form fade-aways' as obvious this year... but the main talk is that the slightly over-hyped Crozier (due to his awesome mark) wont go as high as the talk has him

As I said - all I know is that Patton and Coniglio are likely to go to GWS and that a bloke named Crozier took a good hanger.

I under stand what your saying but Brown can also play forward, I must say I was looking at Alex Rance to help out(cover) in the back line but I now see their is probably a better case for a tall forward

Lynch's disposal realy hurts us going forward if we could trade in a CHF / FF with a great work rate and descent disposal I would be happy but who is available?

Andrew Boseley:

The over-age key defender has helped his chances of going in the first round with some good performances in a Falcons' team that struggled toward the end of the home and away season. He backed up a good effort against Jonathon Patton at the champs with a best on ground performance when matched against the prospective No.1 pick in Geelong's big win in round 15.

Would be good as a KPD depth.

Liam Sumner:

The elusive onballer provides plenty of x-factor in a draft pool a bit short on that quality, but he's not afraid to get his hands dirty either as evidenced by his 11 tackles in a best on ground performance for the Dragons against Eastern. Sumner's burst of speed, creativity and ability to go forward and kick a goal makes him a top prospect at this draft.

Would also be great. We may have to trade our first pick and a player to GWS to get high enough in the order to get either of these guys.

Both Vic kids but that shouldn't really matter these days.

I like Sumner and Hosker-Elliot, neither could be available at our pick.

As for Boseley, maybe. But there could be better KPD options available, also how tall is he?

EDIT: 194cm already a big kid.

also on sumner while he's flashy and creative im not sold on his disposal. If he was everything the afl site claimed as well as having classy disposal he would be a top 5 prospect rather than a mid first round to early second round prospect imo. I may be marking him harshly though and i havent been as involved with the kids this year as last.

We Need a gun KPD and star midfield power.

KPD could be solved somewhat with our first rounder, Lockyer at worst would still be available but i don't like his 190cm height. We have way too many HBFlankers and he is dangerously short to be a genuine KPD.
For the mid i just want us to go after Omeara and Garlett as hard as possible. Omeara is probably a pipe dream but if we didn't grab at-least one of them i would be disappointed.
We also need a forward crumber with magic but those can be found anywhere in the draft or rookie list.
I also have a soft spot for crozier.

People had similar concerns about Pears pre draft - said he was too short and is why he slipped (really wanted us to take him btw). Pears is only 191 cm as well. Glass is around 191-2cm. Height is overrated. Ask Adam Hunter!
