2011 Draw

But the AFL has acknowledged their rivals' desperation to play the Pies in high-drawing home encounters means they will always have a leg up on rivals.

AFL chief operating officer Gillon McLachlan said the Pies would unveil their premiership flag in Round 3 at the MCG against arch rivals Carlton.

``Collingwood has indicated it will unfurl its premiership flag in Round 3 against Carlton at the MCG in what should be a blockbuster event in front of more than 80,000 people on Friday night,'' he said.

Only thing worth reading in the article.

It's inevitable, I reckon they have a template set up to use every year when this day draws around. We could play 22 weeks in the south of Mexico and the head line wouldn't change.

How are our byes "perfectly placed"?
And our interstate rivals are "far from challenging"... Does Jon realise only 2 interstate teams made the top eight last year and that we are flying across state to play them both? In fact we are flying to play the three highest placed interstate teams (+ the new team GC which was a given).
****ing imbecile.

Pretty good draw, to many sunday games for my liking tho. But can't really complain. Bit of a tough run home, but should have top 4 locked in before then.

A bye later in the year around round 16/17 would have been perfect IMO.

Happy to get 2 early games at etihad out of the way early before it falls to pieces again!

Don't believe anything the HUN says or anyone like that, everyone's draw is equal comparative to what they bring into the AFL.
We where never going to get a tough draw when you consider the rest of the competition.:D

We were never going to get a tough draw when you consider the rest of the competition.:D

This is what I was actually thinking, it doesn't really matter who we play, or where we play them, we are good enough to beat anyone, and outside of the top 5-6 sides, there aren't too many threats.

Look at the interstate games, 3 easy games against Sydney, Port and the GC, with Freo being the only real test.

We will be 5-0 also, Port, North, Blues, Tigers and the Bummers, haha.:thumbsu:

I find it strange that we've got more Sunday games than Friday night with two of those Sunday games being at 1:10 at the G. But other than that can't really complain, except for our mandatory two home games at Etihad I really hate that deal!!

Does anyone have an idea when tickets for interstate games generally go on sale? I wouldnt mind taking the family to the gold coast but want to make sure about tickets first.

Of the first 6 games really only WB is any threat.

Could be 6-0 going into the first bye.

We only play 3 teams (Geelong, St.Kilda & Carlton) that finished in the eight last year. And PA, North & Ess are the others.

Really if we should be looking to wrap up top 2 after R20.

No excuses in 2011.

Don't mind the Sunday games anymore, gives the weekend a good climax :)

As for the draw, what a soft start, perfect cure for any potential hangover with 'easy' games on paper against Port, North, Scum, Tiges and Bombers.

The byes are well placed, keeps us refreshed and importantly they are not at the end of the year when you want to be priming for finals.

The travel at the end of the year isn't too much of a concern, we've proven we can handle it in the past.

Overall I'm pretty happy, 14 at the G, 4 at Etihad as usual, can't complain.

I agree about the interstate sides, they have fallen into a heap recently. Would be happy to lose a geelong or saints double to play WC or BL again.. lol

Draw only looks "easier" because this time round we are the best team in the comp, with a proven reputation rather than a side trying to establish themselves as a challenger.

The draw is no different to season 2010 really.

Fremantle over there will be a difficult game and then Geelong the next week in the final round is really the only part of the draw I can see a problem with.

I actually think this is perfect preparation for finals.

In 2010, towards the last 6 or so games we played StK, Geel, Haw and Carl from memory.

Playing as many sides as we can at the business end of the season that will be finals bound is ideal for mine.

Also, the round 24 match vs Geelong will most likely be a fizzer ala the Hawks round 22 last season.

Pretty good draw. I thought we would've played GC twice, but it's good we play them up there.

If we do the hard work at the start of the year, we should be able to finish top two.
