Teams for the 2011 Hopman Cup are due to be officially announced tomorrow, as is the new broadcaster.

A report for the council shows Channel Ten and its digital arm, OneHD, will take over from the ABC, which pulled the pin in April after televising the event for 15 years.

Tournament organisers - who did not intend the broadcast rights information be made public ahead of the announcement - told the City the new television deal would deliver the Hopman Cup "the largest national television viewing audience it has ever had".

Wonderful news. Once the ABC sadly gave up on the Hopman Cup, the only network on FTA that would do it justice was Ten/ONE.

Re: Hopman Cup

Good work ONE, now maybe think about getting the rights to a real tournament that are up for the grabs at the moment, I don't know, let's say Wimbledon.

Re: Hopman Cup

I think it could be a real possibility.

Ten have already said they are not interested in the Wimbledon rights. There was a bit of sacarsm in my post.

They said that when Nine still had the rights though. Now that no-one else is interested they could pick-up the rights fairly cheaply.

Re: Hopman Cup

Sam thinking of playing Brisbane instead? Fair enough, maybe Groth or Molik will have a chance.

The lineup is decent although there's defiantely no outright super team, but a lot of big names already.

Trying to work out the details of the coverage, supposedly 48 hours on One HD and 20 hours on Ten, now will all of the tennis shown on Ten will be shown on ONE, that means only the day session will be shown. Whatever it is, it's good ONE finally has some tennis to show, even though it promsied before it began that there would be tennis.

Re: Hopman Cup

2011 Teams -

USA: Serena Williams, John Isner.
Serbia: Ana Ivanovic, Novak Djokovic
Belgium: Justine Henin, Steve Darcis.
France: Kristina Mladenovic, Gael Monfils.
Australia: Lleyton Hewitt, partner TBC.

ABC picked the right year to drop the telecast. That field is awesome.
Could do with someone like Andy Murray just to further mix up the mens side.
Very, very cool. :thumbsu: Old school pairing. :p

Re: Hopman Cup

More teams -

Kazakhstan: Shvedova, Golubev
Italy: Schiavone, Starace
Australia: Molik, Hewitt

Where's bombersno1? I need his in depth anaysis on the female field.

Still one more team to go, from what i've heard Murray and Robson are likely to team up again.

Re: Hopman Cup

Molik's matches will be a highlight of this Hopman Cup. Really, i do hope that they asked Groth first before Molik, Molik will draw the fans in though I guess given she used to be a household name.

Re: Hopman Cup

They could've got Rodionova or even Dokic before her. I don't mean to be hanging shit on Molik, because at her best she could've won a GS but bloody hell, she couldn't beat a bloody old lady at the minute.

Also I think GB will have the Robson/Murray combo again. Should be entertaining.

http://onehd.com.au/tennis-hopman-cup-broadcast-schedule.htm

TV schedule out.

ONE will be showing the sessions live around the country and Ten are showing the male and mixed matches at 9:30pm (Delayed in all areas not on the AEDT timezone).

The final is live on Ten and ONE.

The only sessions not being shown are the morning sessions on the Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday (Great Britain vs Italy, Belgium vs, Borat's people, and Italy vs USA).

They also are mixing up the final group matches with matches from each tie being played on different courts unlike previous years when one tie was played on centre court and the other on the reject court.

that'll be right......how hard is it to show it live everywhere???

ONE is showing it live everywhere. It's just the main channel that is not.

Re: Hopman Cup

I'm still disappointed the ABC gave up the rights. Any chance of Karen Tighe going freelance to work for Ten/One for a week?

Nope, hosted by Antohny Hudson, commentary by Liz Smiylie, Fred Stolle (just retire you old fart) and Josh Eagle.
