Its really hard for me to get my head around,i felt sick when i saw it.Such a shame that a young man dies just like that.I never would think of that even happening.I don't know much about motogp, but i knew the name, and to think of watching him at phillip island the other week, coming second and talking to the media, and now he's just gone, makes me realise how fragile life is.

Theres only one thing that gives me a bit of comfort and that is he died doing what he loved more than anything. Still way too young though,i was praying that he would make it. I am really really feeling for his family too. i pray to god to give them strength at this time.

And poor rossi.I dont think he'll be able to cope for a very very long time. I wouldn't be suprised if he didnt ride again.

I think coz im 25 its just hard to comprehend being so young and losing it all in a split second. :(

rip marco.gone too soon

Just terrible. I watched it live and I think what makes it worse than some other racing deaths is how his body is thrown about, unprotected. :(

He will be sorely missed as a racer and character. Could have been world champion one day.

Great racers don't die.

Maybe his death will save others in the future with his poor riding, maybe it will be a blessing on the sport

They couldn't even talk about it in the studio? Do some interviews? Show a press conference? They chose to show nothing.

I'm more pissed that there was no discussion about the incident than not showing the race itself.

Channel 10 have basically ignored the incident.

The Ten coverage would be a replay of the coverage earlier on ONE,I assume. On the ONE coverage they stayed with the coverage of Nick Harris and Gavin Emmett [plus Ben Spies] from the start of the race until just after it was announed by Gavin that Marco had died.I think Rusty and Beattie then had a 5-10 minute chat [didn't really watch that] and the coverage ended 15 minutes earlier than advertised.

There were no interviews or press conferences done by the overseas broadcaster,so you can't blame Ten for that.

that's a poor comment.

racers, good & great, crash all the time, and suffer plenty of injuries. he was hit by two other competitors at speed. if he wasnt hit, then he'd still be alive.

Wayne Rainey, one of the best riders ever and a personal favourite, crashed and ended up in a wheelchair for the rest of his life and was lucky not to die. The level of aggression or experience doesn't control whether you die or not. It just happens. To say Marco's death will teach others a lesson about how not to ride is illogical and downright offensive.

Cheap comment buddy.

But...oddly I agree with NSWCrow, too. I don't think there was any need to go further into what happened, it was a shocking incident I think anyone that wanted to know by that stage, with the net as it is, would have already known. Not to mention news programs.

Many riders have a stage early on where they do throw it down the road a fair bit. Rossi had it, Stoner too. Carlos Checa was nicknamed 'Charlie Chucker'. To say that Marco's death is a blessing is piss poor in every way. Seeing that incident stays with you - I've just watched someone die.:(

Can we please keep all speculation and arguments over why and how it happened out of the tribute thread? If you want to argue whether Edwards made the wrong decision to keep going through the turn or blame Marco for being too aggressive, do it here.

The other thread is for tributes to him. I don't want arguments in a thread designed to hail a fallen comrade.

Thanks.

What the ****ing ****?!? Who is making this argument?

Watch it in real time, there is no 'decision' about it. Edwards couldn't do a damn thing.

In the other thread, Rayven was making the argument that Edwards hesitated coming out of the corner and could have backed off instead of powering out of the corner. I think it is a ridiculous assertion to make, but I thought it was disrespectful to be arguing the point in a tribute thread. If you want to make those claims, do it here where we can debate it properly without derailing a thread where people are paying their respects to Marco.

I see your point about the tribute thread, however i feel your taking my posts out of context about a wrong decision. I was showing empathy towards Edwards potential psycholigical state over what happenned. Many innocent road users who had cars or people cross there path fataly go threw the same psycholigical trauma I was endevouring to describe.

"What if i left earlier, what i'd i didnt stop to chat at the servo, what if..."

That is the sought of scenario i was getting at that could effect Edwards distinctively. In no way have I or will I pass judgememt that Edwards could of done anything different

Unfortunaltly it has drawn an emotional response by some posters.....

Just a query about this story in todays Hun - I would've thought with such serious injuries that the track marshalls would have to wait for the medical car, which has professional medics, to attend to him.The race was red flagged so it wasn't as though they had to get him off track to avoid further collisions.I would've thought the second the race was red flagged the medical car and an ambulance would be on track heading to the scene.

Sadly lost amongst the tragedy of the MotoGP race were the two support races. The 125 race was quite exciting with super-teen Maverick Vinales taking another win and championship leader Nico Terol seemingly doing all he could to tip himself off the bike with a couple of near highsides in the last couple of laps. I also got a buzz from the local rider Zulfahmi Khairuddin having his career best result in 7th. With Zarco beating Terol, it means that this title goes down to the wire.

I also enjoyed the Moto2 race, particularly to see Thomas Luthi take his first win above 125cc level. He's been close on a number of occasions so I was chuffed it went his way this time, though not how he would've ideally wanted it. The joy on his face in the press conference way so good to see. Bradl being second means he only needs 3 points at the last round to win the title though there is doubt that Marquez will even make the last round. I was quite fearful seeing Axel Pons lying on the track after the red flag but stoked to hear he got away with no serious injuries.

The MotoGP race will stay with me for quite some time. Casey got a blinder with Pedrosa and Dovi at minor distances behind him. Simoncelli and Bautista looked set for a red hot battle but it all ended horrifically near the end of the second lap. From what I can remember, Simoncelli lost the front on the right hand bend entering the straight and my take on it is that he's used his body to pick the bike up to save it from crashing but when it gripped again and stood up, he was left just hanging on. Everyone know the rest. His helmet rolling through the grass replays in my head and haunts me every day. Am having a real hard time getting my head around him not being there on the grid at the next race and beyond. I saw a replay on tv today and it sent me cold. If only he'd slid into the gravel like Spies did in qualifying. The grid (and this world) is a poorer, duller place without him. This is the last photo I got of him during Saturday qualifying at the Island this year. It's how I prefer to remember him.

The story says he was dropped by medical staff, not marshalls. I just take it that the ambulance had no easy access to the track from there and this was the quickest way. Marco's father was there and he said it made no difference, Marco was already gone. I'm sure everything will become clear after race directions investigation is completed and published.

MotoGP concludes the 2011 season with a heavy heart this weekend, still struggling under the black cloud left by the sudden death of Marco Simoncelli in an horrific freak accident at the previous round in Malaysia.

Whilst the excitement that should surround a MotoGP round won't be there, I am looking forward to seeing how the paddock tributes Super Sic. I know they will do him justice. Unfortunately Colin Edwards won't be there, injured in the crash with Simoncelli, his place to be filled by AMA Superbike champ Josh Hayes. Jorge Lorenzo will miss again due to his still healing re-attached finger but Ben Spies will return from the beatings he's copped in Malaysia and Australia.

The two feeder categories are both still to be decided though for the Moto2 class it might be done and dusted with Bradl champion before the weekend starts if Marquez can't overcome injury for the event. In the 125 class, Johann Zarco is an outside shot of glory with a significant deficit to leader Nico Terol but a little bad luck to the spaniard and the championship is still possible. Stranger things have happened.

Pretty sure Marquez has been ruled out still suffering with the vision problem.

Shouldn't be a huge loss for him, only 1 person is going to win the Moto2 championship next year.

2 of my hopes for the titles have gotten up (Stoner, Bradl) if Zarco can as well it'll be 1 thing to get excited about this weekend.

Marco Simoncelli's father Paolo has suggested a minutes noise rather than silence to remember Sic by. Sounds great to me. Might have to fire up the ZX6Rs and the XR5 and bang 'em all off the limiter for a minute on Sunday. All for Marco of course...

I'm with ya on Bradl, SJ, though I'd preferred if he had've been able to just out race Marc to the title in the last couple of rounds. But a world title is a world title and I don't think Stefan will care.
